So PPAP thrashed the competition. I don't know how viral it is in Japan, but No. 2-9 are seriously near-national to national popularity, so SaiMajo behind them is perfectly normal and nothing to complain about.

    Well done, Top10 is legit.

Woah I wasn't aware PPAP guy was that popular, how didn't he make Kouhaku? Number 9, Perfect Human did..
NHK always working in mysterious ways.
AKB still riding the wave from a song from 2015. It is a good song though.

nah man, the other 9 are literally made more impact than silent majority, so the rank is fair enough

That "biggest selling debut single of the year" banner on their pic makes me feel better, lol.

Lots of people are not feeling good about being shut out of the Christmas lives, however. They are joining a continuing campaign to stop individuals and companies from buying up tickets for resale. One idea is that you have to show photo ID when you present your ticket. Not simple or cheap for the companies selling the tickets or running the venue, but apparently it was done pretty strictly with AKB48 shows a few years ago.

I just watched PPAP a few times. Had never seen it. He's good, but I found it of much more sociological/psychological interest than entertainment or musical interest.

All the others have some reason behind them.
There's literally a story for what makes each of those songs special.
They're either huge tie-ups (popular movie, dramas, huge CM, the Olympics), memes, or topical.
Some are more than one (Koi is a meme and a tup-in, and Hanabata wo Kimi ni is a return from hiatus (topical) and a tie-up)

Silent Majority is the only one just there because it's a good song. The Mechakari CM was definitely a one-sided relationship.
(many of the others are also good songs and them being good songs is not irrelevant to their rank!)

^I guess you can add the fact that it was the first single from Nogizaka's sister group, so that may have had more to do with it rather than it just being a good song (but yeah, i was a really good song lmao)

I mean I like the song but I doubt they included them bc it's a "good song" since that's really subjective lol

Keya's really trending and the song did really well so they should get some mention. Rly too bad JRA snubbed them probably bc of the Nazi mess. The YT vid on JPN Sony channel already have over 30 mil views so they attracted alot of attention outside of the 48/46G fanbase.

At this point, they're 113,000 ahead of SekaAi. SekaAi was only 58,000 ahead of SaiMajo on the Saturday. You go, girls.

Ah, just short of 450k for the first week. Well, it's an impressive feat anyway. Congratulations, Keyaki-chans!

A personal goal I set for Keyaki was reached this week.
Futari Saison beat High Tension's oricon sales in each day but day 1.

Day | AKB HT | Keyaki FS
    D2 | 21,236 | 32,378
    D3 | 12,498 | 17,179
    D4 | 6,891 | 9,838
    D5 | 6,217 | 8,846
    D6 | 6,471 | 8,630

Before I had hoped for 400K now I am kinda disapointed that they won't reach 450k..

Those Billboard numbers though; half a million in 8months...
How does Soundscan arrive at these numbers? I doubt there are execess 70k Cd's that fall under the 20+ rule.

It's actually not just that, there's overseas sales (not a big deal yet, I think) but also, they don't always count the same shops.
Some shops don't report to oricon but do report sales to SoundScan, but at the same time some shops are the opposite.
