Except for 2nd gen where they keep aside everyone that is not Miona and Maichun.

    And Kiichan, I guess??

It’s time to talk about the music on this 24th single and give my honest opinion. Looking back at the 23rd, I described it as ‘lacking’ at the time. How about this one? I’m later than usual in writing this review. Is it because I can’t stop listening to it and nothing else gets done? Or is it because I couldn’t find the motivation because it is a disappointment? Let’s find out!

    Yoakemade Tsuyogaranakute mo ii
When it comes to a-sides, I definitely see a rise in quality since SingOut. For quite a while, the a-sides were a bit interchangeable (with Jikochuu as a pleasant exception), but lately there is a shift towards a broader style with more room for experimentation. Yoakemade opens with both strings and distorted electronics in the first 20 second, which is a perfect example of this development. The strings carry the song most of the time, whether it is the subtle violin during the verses or the more bombastic approach during the chorus. Don’t forget the details though, that acoustic guitar adds tons of atmosphere. The vocal melody is very nice, especially during the chorus, and we also hear a familiar ‘hey!’, but with a ton of reverb. A polarising choice, but I think it’s very fitting for the story that this song is trying to convey.

    Boku no Koto, Shitteru?
The song starts of very mellow, with little happening and continues to do so until the end. There are a few moments were they build op some tension, yet it never comes to a full climax, and just transitions into a chorus that isn’t really interesting as well. The alternating vocal lines every now and then are nice, but other than that, it's dull and I don’t see any reason to listen to this song.

    Romendensha no Machi
The song starts of very mellow, with little happening and continues to do so until the end. It has much more character than the previous song though, which is mostly because it is sung by just three members with very recognizable voices. The instrumentals craft a soothing ambience, and although the rhythm is quite groovy during the chorus, it doesn’t break this feeling. When the three voices come together, the vocals sound very melancholic and I like that very much.

    Toshoshitsu no Kimi e
I am a bit disappointed by the 4th gen songs up until now. They lack punch, creativity and dynamics. This song is no different. The vocals of this gen are a bit bland when they come together. Technically, it sounds all right, but I have the feeling they are playing it safe (with they I mean the composers/producers, not the members). I like the rapping part though, since it breaks the flow a bit. The instrumentals aren’t that exciting either. The beat is almost constant, and the rhythm only gets a bit interesting during the chorus when the kick and cymbal skip some counts.

    Tokidoki Omoidashite Kudasai
This is the mandatory graduation tearjerker of the album, and it ticks all the boxes of such a song. Emotional melodies? Check. Touching lyrics? Check. Sensitive vocals? Check. I know this works for a lot of people and it that sense, the mission is accomplished. It’s just not for me, and my taste for something more creative. That being said, Reika does a great job. She has grown so much as a singer and carries this song with ease. She goes from subtle to open and back to subtle without trouble. Her voice during the chorus combined with the strings that go full effect is very, very pleasant. Hmm, maybe this song isn’t so bad after all.

~Do my best~ Ja Imi wa Nai
The greatest expectations cause the greatest disappointments. And I expected a lot from this Under song. To start with something positive, the synth sound is fantastic. I don’t know how to describe the sound, but it’s nice and sets the mood. The start of the song is all right as well, but when the chorus first kicks in, the song loses control and quickly goes all over the place. It feels as if they wrote a good 2 minute song, but filled it with random stuff to lengthen it, ruining it in the process. And I hate to say it but the English acapella part actually makes me cringe. Sorry.

    Boku no Omoikomi
Oh my, how I love the chorus of this song. The vocal lines are the most uplifting I heard in quite a while, and the music sounds like a fairy tale. The song as as whole has a great mood, and I can’t sit still listening to it, even during the softer parts. Everything sounds really fresh and well balanced. My favorite song of this single.

    Conclusion
The title song is very nice, and Boku no Omoikomi is a new favorite. However, this single seems to have a more laid back approach in songwriting, with many songs being too mellow for my taste. They are solid (except the Under song which is a trainwreck), but also a bit dull at moments. Just like the previous single, it misses a kami song. Therefore I have to be honest and say that this is my least favorite single in quite a while. Maybe I should give Kaerimichi another spin...

Can anyone tell me what the blu-ray region is for this single ?

I would like to have the documentarys but I hesitate to buy because I am in France and the Blu-ray region is A in Japan and B in France

Maybe someone outside Japan bought this single and can tell me if he succeeded to see the blu-ray.

I don't think there's any region being applied on these Blu-rays.

That weight problem, as much as we don't want to admit, it is pretty important to idols. Mizayaki Miho was probably the first case of this problem. She was very popular back then, she got pushed by the management just as much as Mayu but then BANG, she gained weight. We all know what happened next. She even admitted it herself.

In Nogi's 3rd gen, aside from Kubo, I think Riria is another example who gets into the same problem. Both got a lot of spotlight at the beginning but then both got washed away with their weight gain. Oh well, I don't blame them, and it isn't like we can change the past anw. I just hope that they will learn a lesson from that and become better than before.

Yup I also notice Riria gained some weight. I'm now thinking if suddenly she will also go on hiatus bec of 'health issues'. The other girl I could think of is Himetan, though there have been discussions about her hiatus, I wonder if this weight gain also played a role.

And going on hiatus, is it because the girls aren't feeling well, or is it just a preventive measure to hide them from fans' attack? Perhaps both?

Sorry, this is not new to me but I never put much thought into it until now. Not that I care about these girls gaining weight but yeah, it's a no-no. That's idol life for you.

It saddens me that there are more girls having filled 0 full slot but I am getting used to it. I know that Kotoko is doing better than ever so hopefully the girls will do too.
