You can ride the Reconstruction Train with your favorite members (I combined two articles).

On October 12th, the Sanriku Railway will operate a special reconstruction program “AKB48 Train” between Kamaishi and Miyako. Of the AKB48 group, which is a collective term for sister groups such as AKB48, a female idol group produced by Yasushi Akimoto, and SKE48 Take a train and enjoy a train trip.

The six passengers (後藤萌咲・田口愛佳・千葉恵里・込山榛香・湯本亜美・谷口めぐ - Moekyun, Manaka, Eri, Komi, Yuami, and Megu) were entrusted by the Sanriku Railway to the “Sanriku Railway Support Ambassador” in August as part of a support project for the Great East Japan Earthquake.

The time is from Kamaishi 10:58 to Miyako 12:24, and in addition to the ticket, a ride numbered ticket distributed from 10:00 at Sanriku Railway Kamaishi Station (Kamaishi City, Iwate Prefecture) is required.

The capacity is 80 people, and 40 of them are regional slots for residents living along the municipalities, and children and families up to junior high school students can ride on a priority basis.

Since it's out of topic in the IZ*ONE thread
    - Jpop Vs Kpop is not my point.
    - I said serious venue out of Asia (capacity over 3k), not Tokyo dôme (And no it doesn't require skill to perform at Tokyo dôme, but capacity to sell enough tickets)
    - Is Eminem a good singer ? Is Miley Cyrus an outsdanding performer ? were all the 90's Boysband fantastic dancers ? What about all those Disco then Techno artists in the 80's ? Yet, those exemples sold decently. And If you want a Korean artist exemple, I don't think the phenomenon that was Gangnham Style sold worldwide only thanks to Psy's performing skills (but thanks to his marketting strategy, absolutly).
I meant AKB48 won't go international, not AKS won't (because AKS obviously allready did, even if limited to Asia).

Let's admit AKB48 as we know it, really wants it's place on the international market (so sell music in every possible country instead of Japan and Asia).
Since 2009 the year they really showed their will for expansion out of Japan:
    - They had some performances / concert out of Asia (France, USA, Russia), yet those oversea concerts remain a rare exception. Artists like Babymetal, Yoshiki did much more than that in much less time.
    - They planed 1 concert in Italy in 2010, that was cancelled (most likely the atempt at selling the concept failed)
    - Their discs are not really sold out of Asia. If CDJapan and the likes weren't around, international fans would have a really hard time buying their discs, and I don't talk about the hurdle that is buying their theater CDs.
    - They don't do any promotion at all out of Asia.
    - Their music is poorly available on digital services out of Asia. (With the exception of the "Wreck it Ralph" song: Sugar Rush, but it is under Disney's distribution).
    - Their MV are never broadcasted on specialized channels, because they don't allow the license for their songs.
    - Even a channel like NHK World doesn't broadcast them a lot. It's easier to see any other artists there.
    - The 2013 general election was officially broadcasted for free on Youtube (thanks to the Google+ contract), with english live dubbing and some commentators for non Japanese. The experience never happened again and won't anymore.
    - No world tour, not even in their peak years. No need to say that it is currently not in question.
And there are yet to be any strong hints showing that they wants to establish themselves in the international music market. Unless the Asian market is international enough perhaps ? Selling in 2 countries is international after all, (although limited).
The biggest so far, the international site, 48CIRCLE looks more like a candy than a serious atempt at promoting out of Asia. It's not even possible to buy anything from there. A bit short for "a membership portal site that delivers the latest information and news", with only 3 articles written in nearly 3 months. It can still evolve, but I don't have any high hopes.

On the other side, since 2009:
    - There is this neverending oversea sister groups creation who adapt the same concept, sell music and goods the same way, have their TV shows ?, use a theater, adapt the same songs (author / producer right$) and it doesn't seem to stop anytime soon, despite 3 failures.
    - Multiple appearences / concerts in the countries with a sister group. If it's not also for the concept promotion what can it be ?

So AKS really prefers AKB48 going oversea than "Idols you can meet" oversea licensing ?

And for your paragraph about the other foreign groups, not the topic either.

Eminem is one of the best, if not the best rapper who ever graced a microphone. Not only does he have a one-in-a-generation flow, he is also an exceptional lyricist. And i am not even a big fan or something.

But yes, the 90's Boy band members were in general fantastic dancers. Google up e.g. Jason Orange and Howard Donald of Take That. And yes, i am a bit of a Take That fan.

Sorry for OT, but these examples were very weirdly selected.

I am actually a big Public Enemy fan since forever, and Chuck D is also one of the greatest, but in terms of skills and lyrics, em is pretty much unbeatable. And as i said, i dont even like most of his stuff (but i enjoy what hes done with Da Royce).

    That's Miku.

Yuihan - Naachan - Miku - Miru - Hinatan - Yumiko (pretty much the aces). Surprised Yuihan is on that poster and not mion.

Plus also that link does have another poster of all of the members who will be apart of it (No surprise it features alot of HKT48).

What are factors to concert sellability? No way Black Pink is more popular than AKB48 in Japan.
Actually, Psy is a skilled performer. His popularity is a fad because his skill isn't acknowledged. Anyway, his performance is fun to watch largely due to his skill.
Oversea music sale? Is this only thing you could come up as AKB48's guru?
BNK48 is way more popular/famous in Thailand than AKB48. Who promotes who when AKB48 associates to BNK48 in Thailand? How popular was AKB48 in China for it to promote Team SH?

Thai wotas have discussed (more of criticized) on BNK and many points may reflect AKB48's condition.

    Activity frequency
To preserve fans' attention/loyalty to the group, new topic to discuss must be created frequently. The agency must put out new impactful group project/activity for fans to discuss regularly. Member's solo activities are good for the member but, it's only an interesting topic to her fans. Lately, there isn't often a new interesting topic to discuss.

    Senbatsu
    1) Most of the time, the senbatsu lineup is predictable. There is a small pool of possible candidates. There aren't many opportunities for less popular members to participate in big project. They mostly will just keep being unpopular and their fans are discouraged to follow.
    2) The senbatsu system results the fandom to be divided. The fandom is much a battlefield with wotas attacking oshis of other wotas.

    Wota
Wota has developed bad image mainly due to following behaviors
    1) Consistently shading/dragging members not his oshi, resulting from the senbatsu system.
    2) Being overly positive toward his bias and aggressively criticizes/disses anyone who doesn't comment positively.
Such offensive behaviors drive many fans away from fandom and shun casual fans to deeper invest into the group as they don't want to be wota.

    Wota vs. casual fan
Wota surely is the biggest source of income, contributing not less than 70% to overall income yet, casual fan is important. Casual fans help trending the group and boost Youtube views. Those are crucial parameters for marketing agencies to advice their clients which celeb they should sponsor/offer endorsement deal. Trend also links to media coverage. Media coverage will introduce the group to broader market, make it easier to fish new fans. It is crucial for the income growth of the group. Media coverage can also back the solo career of individual member and no member doesn't want to be on mainstream media. Less girls will be interested to join the group without good media coverage.

    Member's performance
Although casual fans can understand "watching idol grows" concept, they find it unacceptable that many members don't show significant development of skill after a year. If members have worked hard, they should be able to show the fruit of their effort. Also, some members look bored/unenthusiastic when they perform.

BNK's wotas also discussed on how BNK's songs wasn't in-line with current music trend but, I don't know what is the current trend in Japan.

The question is about AKB48, not BNK48. But whatever.

    In a different way:
What makes you think AKB48 wants to sell it's music worldwide ? (so go after the international market)
    ---> So far they don't
What makes you think AKS isn't selling the concept oversea ?
---> So far it's what they are doing (~7 times allready).

And I don't think Gangnam style, a song everybody danced to as easily as with Macarena , became successful because it requires a good level at dancing. It's promotion did the job..
Something like: "Hey look at that song, it is the first video to surpass 1 billion of vues on Youtube".

Japan has 123 million inhabitants ... pretty sure that market is big enough to make AKB48 sustainable (see what I did there ;) )
I think management decide rather early that it's better to tackle new markets with local subgroups as it is easier to build a fandom, only using AKB48 as a sort of starter/catalyst.
    (hence JKT48 and BNK48)
And when local subgroups get successful (read: rake in the money) there is no reason to push AKB48 on that same market (it would only cannibalise the profits from the subgroup (kinda what you see with the Japanese subgroups)).

it just looks like the business model of AKB48 differs from K-Pop groups, so it's not really useful to compare the two (also because western perception differs as well, making the west a much more difficult market for AKB48 then for, say, Black Pink)

(and in the pas plenty of K-Pop groups failed to make it in the west as well e.g. Wonder Girls)

The cooperation with Disney must have seemed a good way to break into the western markets, but it failed to gain much traction it seems, and they kinda shelved the idea.
