AKB48 member and former “Produce 48” contestant Chiba Erii will be appearing in a new K-pop variety show from Mnet!

The new show, which is officially titled “UHSN,” will bring 10 female K-pop fans from various countries around the world to South Korea as foreign exchange students. In Korea, they will receive lessons from experts in singing, dancing, and Korean language and experience aspects of Korean culture such as the food, beauty, and fashion.

According to a source from Sports Kyunghyang, Chiba Erii will be one of the 10 exchange students and moved in to the dorm on April 9. Fans also spotted her photo in the short teaser that Mnet released for the show on April 8.

The producing director (PD) for the show stated, “We set up this program in recognition of the fact that there are many non-Koreans who love K-pop and want to learn more about it. We received many applications from all over the world and felt once again the global popularity of K-pop. Rather than helping spread knowledge about Korea around the world, we want to help these women take on new challenges in the name of their passion for Korean culture.”

The show will premiere sometime in May.

So this time, no Japan-Korea back to back travels. Oh wait! She's sheduled for the spring festival concert.

I don't understand well, the show final goal though.

Hmm, I gotta admit, first post here, I just got into AKB after having followed only H!P for 3 years and I dislike Kpop. A lot.

Hope this doesn't become a trend along with that Izone thingy, AKB does some things differently from H!P which are quite the strength IMO.
And I'd wanna see the members participating in AKs stuff, not random Kpop.

    Just my 2 cents though.

I also used to dislike K-pop. I had next to no knowledge of it so it was based almost exclusively on snippets of music videos I'd seen from like... Kids React. Then the news came out that AKB would collaborate with Mnet on Produce 48, so I watched all of the first season and there you go. I still don't "like" the entire industry and find some things cringy, but I don't hate it. It's the idols themselves that interest me, much like with AKB itself.

I think members wanting to cross over to Korea can be a positive thing for their I-fans too. I've watched hundreds of AKBingo episodes, but there's a ton of stuff I haven't seen like documentaries I haven't found subbed. Kpop is much more internet-oriented and with how popular it is (I mean there are streaming websites with subs of Korean shows like there is for anime)!) so it may result in getting to see much more of the idols than what we can get outside of Japan. And then there's the fact that they may want to do it themselves. Part of the reason even I learned to tolerate the industries in Japan and Korea with idols despite the culture clash on my end is that ultimately, this is what the girls want to do, it makes them happy, and thus I'll support them.

woooooohooo another thread about to get messy!

Good for Eri tho! Even tho they probably just want her to be the meme member.

@Merika weren’t you banned for posting porn gifs?

This is gonna be interesting! I remember reading about the audition for this on facebook but I didn't expect they'll hire a celebrity.

Hope Eri gains more fans from this!

Hey, I just wanted to say that, obviously, I've got nothing against her decision specifically, she didn't become an idol just to please me.

Heck, if any girl wants to work on Kpop, then it's what they want and it's what they should do.

Just that I see differences between it and the work and content that big J-idol companies like Upfront and AKS put out, and I vastly prefer
the Japanese content. Not getting into specifics of why coz that'd inevitably deteriorate into flame.

I just wouldn't wanna see this becoming a trend, y'know.

Far from me to be an unreasonable fan (but if Matsuoka Hana goes to Korea, I'm gonna spam Kim Jong Un's inbox with fake declarations of war
    made on google translate).

This should be interesting because the participants are from all around the world. I wonder how much of a language barrier there will be, can't imagine Eri-chan to speak good English. :^^;:
Would be cool if there was a German girl among the participants.

Nah, she gained legit fans from her time on Produce48. I'm not surprised she got another offer from MNET. She's a pretty girl, has entertaining reactions- girl's got wide appeal.

The whole premise of the show is probably a meme though. Like that youtube clip "AKB48 members SHOOK by cultural differences in Korea"- but as an entire show.

    Can't wait :XD:

REALLY??....really? You hope KPOP 'stuff' doesn't become a "Trend" in Japan?? You do know that AKI-P (creator of AKB48) owns like 1/2 (at least 1/3rd) of IZ*ONE - he knows what's cooking. Wait till China gets involved. Black Pink just broke 2 youtube records in 1 week. They currently have the fastest group on the PLANET to reach 100 Million views. KPOP is going Global. AKI- P could've been international after KFC in 2014 if he gave 1/2 a crap. NOPE, he Regioned BLOCKED the USA & ripped down ALL the Fan Subs just as JYP & TWICE debuted - KPOP LOVES Fan-subbers.

I'll always have a soft-memory of AKB from 2011-2014 - the glory days of Acchan, Yuko, & Paruru.... least you still got Jurina!

I said I hope it doesn't become a trend that more and more J-idols go over to Korea to do Kpop stuff since Kpop doesn't appeal to my tastes at all.
Simply prefer seeing more AKB content, instead of content with AKB idols in Kpop productions.

Since Erii is a celeb, an entertainer, I guess other participants may be not totally nobody.

You may notice that there were some non-Korean texts in the teaser, one of them is "kultur". "Kultur" is not exclusively used in Germany.

It doesn't look like there will be the award of K-pop debut, participants may be not demanded to use Korean and use English to communicate.

I don't think it's a meme show. tvN, Mnet's sibling broadcaster (both are under CJ ENM umbrella), produced a show with similar premise "Better Girls" with girls from SEA countries learning about K-beauty through K-pop training like method. That show was totally boring and made no sense.

The participants will definitely be chosen by Mnet ahead of time. Idol School had public auditions opened worldwide, but none who did them were taken & were just used for the promo vid. The rest were chosen way before it.

So even with the audition applications, I’m sure they already had a lineup chosen.

With Erii on it, I do wonder if there are any other notable participants.

Why people are lying on my name & being off topic is beyond me, but Imma ignore it

:wtf: So back on topic, there’s gonna be girls coming from NA, Europe, Africa, etc too.

Really interested in seeing how the show will be like. Erii (alongside many 48G from P48) still have notable fan bases in South Korea, so I could see her bringing in a lot of attention.
