Am I the only person who watched that expecting a horror show and didn't see one? There were a few dicey singing parts, but it honestly is not that bad at all.

But, then again, I like "bad" singing - it's partially why I listen to some idol groups aha. I think you can make nice sounds even if you don't have a "good voice," and sometimes I prefer weaker voices to stronger ones if it suits the song/makes it interesting.

Why does the audience seem to be all/mostly female.. this doesn't look too representative of the akb fanbase... and they either sit there like dead or do mild clapping

Well, I realize that but my point is Sasshi isn't a trained professional singer and we really shouldn't be surprised when she, or any of the girls, hit a bad note or have a bad session or sound less than stellar. Perhaps, she shouldn't have solo moments on certain songs but, for my part, I find the girls even more lovable when they come up less than perfect on stage. It reminds us all that they aren't robots.

Because Ongaku no Hi is not an AKB-only show? Majority of the audience was probably there to see any of the other acts besides AKB48 (T.M. Revolution or EXILE, perhaps? SEKAI NO OWARI? Porno Graffiti? Or any of the dozens of solo acts!). When AKB's only 5-10 minutes of a 15 hours long program featuring several artists you can't expect the audience to be all-male hardcore AKB48G-wotas.

By the way, I see Takahashi Minami in the artist list. With "(AKB48)" added. That made me a bit sad, as if the general public somehow didn't know who she was without the reminder that she was in AKB48. WAS. They marked her as AKB48 like she's still in the group!

I agree that AKB is not built to be a group of powerhouse vocal like Masuda Yuka or technically superb like Wasamin, but when it's Live and the audiences are not your usual fans, I think they (no, not just Sasshi) should have put more effort in their performance (vocal and dance wise). Double pressure, yes, but hey, it's not like they face this kind of audience and live situation everyday. They could be nervous, but that wasn't their first performance in Ongaku no Hi, was it?

That CROW'S BLOOD ending instrumental is creepy. I wonder how the actual song will sound like.

I'm a sasshi fan, but damn it that bridge part is sad..when she start the first part I think she nailed i..it was really good. I know this is sound like me defending her but sasshi is actually taking singing lesson if one of you might have watch konya kurabete mimashita. She save her money to take singing lesson since she's really aware with her lack skill of singing..But the bridge is too high for her voice I always notice that sasshi real voice is actually low..it will be hard for her to reach that pitch.
But then again I really understand as fans we really wanna see them performing as professional as they can be.
And yes I've read some of their twitter, most of the girls not in a good shape consider how busy they are now, I enjoyed the performance and hoping the girls would be in a good shape when they perform on FNS, I feel worried about their health condition.

Hikari to Kage no Hibi CDTV (with the original senbatsu!)

if the video does not show watch the video here
PS: it is still part of Ongaku no Hi, but this one was prerecorded (obviously, otherwise you won't see the NGT girls and Uha).

Is this the actual song? Because I could really dig a more darker AKB song.

Did they or are they going to perform Shiawase wo wakenasai? Atm, it rather seems like the single'd be LOVE TRIP / Hikari to Kage no Hibi then LOVE TRIP / Shiawase wo wakenasai...

I'm glad to hear Sasshi is taking lessons. I think it's irresponsible on the mgmt's part to make these girls sing so much and not even train them properly so they don't suffer injuries. It's not just about sounding good, it's about their health, I don't want them to end up needing surgery like Yuko did.

Also yawn at the argument that "AKB isn't about the music why don't you guyz get it already". Some of us are perfectly aware yet WE like the musical aspect of the group. Personal preference and all. I've moved on to Nogizaka because they are way better musically, but I still want the AKB girls to be at least competent, especially because there are hardly any solos, so they should be able to sound better and cover for each other's flaws. Also, their making people's ears bleed isn't going to do the group any favors with the general public no matter how much the wotas think it's adorable that half the group can't carry a tune in a bucket.

BTW, I don't think this performance was especially bad, they did alright by AKB standards. I just would love it if the bar was set a little bit higher it's all. I don't want a group of Beyonces, but Idk, at least for them to be able to sing along to bubblegum pop should be attainable enough?

No, you're not the only one. Far from the other commenters here, I was impressed by how not bad it was.

The most offensive thing for me in this performance was still the costumes.

If you haven't checked out Nogizaka's performance, I would recommend it though. That was very professional and charming. SKE's CDTV was a lot better too imo. Again the AKB senbatsu has some problems with their overall cohesion, Sasshi's singing isn't the best, nothing new. Good on her for training and all though.

I think the ones giving criticism about the performance here are not trying to bash the girls. We care and want them to do better and give a better impression of themselves to the general audience. They may get new fans that way.

About not being surprised that their level is not really high, yeah we all know that here. The point is that the other maybe 90% (just a made up number) of people that watched the performance probably don't know that much about AKB. To us AKB fans, yeah we can just let it go, it's no big deal. But to the general audience I think it is safe to assume that they would expect something worthy to be on TV. It was cringe worthy as the other guys said. It wasn't a total disaster but it was below decent. If it was an AKB only show or a high school show or something, yeah the performance was OK.

So for me, I care and just don't want the girls to embarrass themselves in front of a national TV audience.

Some of the criticism doesn't sound that way, and besides that I seem to recall the same complaints being made every time they appear on a show that requires live vocals, going back as long as I've been a fan.

The singing as a whole was decent, if a tad amateurish. The only trouble spots that stood out were Paruru, Dasu, and near the end Sasshi (she opened fine). And Paruru's was probably due to fatigue.

That said... most of these girls would definitely benefit from some actual vocal training.

For me, overall it was lacking a bit here and there compared to their Music Day performance, but nothing major except for Dasu in 365 and Sasshi in Love Trip bridge part. Also Sayanee and Yukirin early part in Love Trip wasn't properly harmonized.

I feel the same way and I agree in everything with you, of course we can't expect them to be amazing performers, that's not the main point of AKB. But it would be good if the image of AKB improves in the general audience. I don't want to be biased, maybe for me the perfomance wasn't actually that bad, but I don't know how it was for the people who was watching the show and don't know anything about AKB except that they have many members and are a national group.
It's not about us (wotas, regular fans), they're performing on TV for a national audience, maybe this can affect the image of the group, and yes, they may get new fans in these shows.

    (Sorry for my english :poop:)

Dasu in 365 though :hmm: She should be singing with Kaotan instead of everyone else [hehe]

Sasshi's solo during the bridge was bad but it was so high that it sounds like it was pitched so you can't blame her.

Yuihan and Sayanee during Hikari no Kage though. It seems like one of them was having a hard time getting the timing correct.

Like a few others say, this is not an AKB show so they should've gave it their all. AKB wasn't really much liked even outside of the fandom so these performances will only leave a greater negative impression.
