I always thought Keyakizaka is popular with the general public.
Or did something change this year for them to perceive so?

Though I must admit, K46's fan base, when it comes to Pro Wotas -those middle aged idol fans who are willing to shell out ridiculous amount of money to push a single to the charts, is kinda lacking when compared to N46 and Akb48.
Also because most K46 fans are young teens with little buying power.

^Silent Majority is popular with the general public. Keyaki have been trying really hard to make the group known for more than Saimajo. People might recognize techi as "the girl in saimajo" but they really need to push other members and the group more into different media's if they want to make the group more known. Another hit single would be great too.

IMHO it is fine if they were dropped from Kouhaku, they just need to prove they're a strong group, regroup, show to the people what they got... like getting revenge

It also can build their mindset like "oh we're not going to be there this year, we need to do better." and I hope not by overworking

    That's why I love Pon's interview with Bubka :)

Just saying "idol purge" is a rumour that happens EVERY SINGLE YEAR and it never happens...
Keya's ratings where really good last year so no way it's happening.

Afaik, Kouhaku, despite its declining ratings, is the barometer of popularity in Japanese entertainment, right? If that is the case, then Keya should be included in there. Their attendance will still help them maintain its public relevance at least, even if the rumor says otherwise. Fukyouwaon gave them a solid, and Kaze Ni should further boost their chance to return there even more. Really now, an Aki-P idol group in dashing suits with an ikemen center and a cool tune to boot? Now that's Kouhaku-worthy!

OOR is kinda popular but were never invited to Kohaku so...

EDIT: It would be stupid for them NOT to invite Kenshi Yonezu this year; he's been slaying since LOSER.

As I said before, appearing there should at least have its benefits, right? If it does, then the more they should be there, if it eventually helps them in the long run. To borrow a quote, Opportunity is not a lengthy visitor. (sometimes it takes once a year;)) So if the chance is there, then why not make the most out of it?
    lol

i'm not sure "Kouhaku" and "poor rating" should be used on 1 line lol. Yeah, Kouhaku's rating has been slipping/fluctuating over the years. But it usually is still the highest rated show in Japan every year. Not even rendora, asadora, variety shows/ and talk shows come close to it.

There is also the idea that 48/46 groups only have so many (3) slots they can take for themselves. To review the last few years.

    2013 - AKB48, SKE48, and NMB48 (debut)
    2014 - AKB48, SKE & NMB (joint slot), and HKT48 (debut)
    2015 - AKB48, NMB48, and Nogizaka46 (debut) /SKE and HKT dropped/
    2016 - AKB48 (all sister groups included), Nogizaka46, and Keyakizaka46 (debut)

Following that, it seems like the 48/46 tribes are only allowed to have 3 slots each year. That means that while Keyaki are likely to have their own slot, they also have a chance to be dropped in favor of another 48 group, or they might even perform with Nogi instead.

If AKB goes with the Kouhaku Senbatsu again and the 3 slot theory is correct, Keyaki will most probably enter Kouhaku.
But yeah, these days Kouhaku is more of a "status symbol" than an actual event. People still watch it but they care more about who enters it than exactly about the performance itself. Well, except for the regular dinosaurs who don't have to make much effort to show up (looking at you Seiko-chan)

NEXT is Noro Kayo =) none of the graduates has said about how good the current generation of 48. All of them notice how good Kayakizak is and how much they differet from AKB. And I think that they do not harbor the hope of the AKB future... And it's sad... that even former members don't support AKB at all because they do not believe in them (new 48G girls) .... even Yukirin :^^;: who is don't graduate...

Err... It's like you're saying ex-AKB members only support Keyaki and that they don't care about AKB because the new gens are hopeless af. I don't think that's the case, just because they don't share their thoughts publicly doesn't mean they don't care or support them... besides, idk why you have to bring down a group to praise another @.@
