There's been an announcement today about a VR Live Distribution service in conjunction with SoftBank which offers a 'front row experience' of 48Group Theater shows: https://ameblo.jp/akihabara48/entry-12567500814.html As I understand it, fans can buy VR goggles for 4,500 JPY each at the Group Shop: https://shopping.akb48-group.com/selection/detail/1/84997?mmGS200116_1=html_content_banner I think you then have to pay to watch each show but until the service starts on 2/3 it's possible to watch for free the AKB48 Theater 14th Anniversary Special Commemorative Performance held on 12/8. (Presumably this service is only available within Japan.) There was a media launch today involving Yukirin, Dasu, Mirurun, Mikurin, Hinatan and Yumirin: if the video does not show watch the video here if the video does not show watch the video here EDIT: another video: if the video does not show watch the video here
You get 1 month free watching if you get the pack, but after that you will automatically become paid member unless you cancel the subscription - so I guess that means it wouldn't be pay per view but rather a monthly membership price.
The monthly price is 3300 yen for one group or 8400 yen for all three (just AKB48, SKE48, and NGT48 for now). https://www.softbank.jp/corp/news/press/sbkk/2020/20200116_01/
Just wondering, did anyone make a thread for "Hopes, Fears, and Predictions for 2020"? There was one for each previous years, but I can't seem to find one for 2020. If there isn't any, maybe we can make one? Even though we're in January already but it's still just the beginning of the year.
Article from Smart FLASH about Liverpool FC's newly-signed Japanese international player Minamino Takumi in which he says that when he was 15-16 he was a big fan of AKB48 and when he was a young footballer on overseas expeditions he used to bring AKB48 goods with him to give to foreign players: https://smart-flash.jp/sports/91026

Great ! Let's have the european clubs buy more japanese players if Football becomes the medium for AKB48 exportation
Funny that, I recently saw as a documentary about VVV Venlo (which really is a minor club in the Netherlands) who have signed multiple Japanese players in the past https://www.japantimes.co.jp/sports...-chief-eyes-new-japanese-talent/#.XiIhRC3MyuU and VVV Venlo has a (albeit small) fanclub in Tokyo
There's an English-language article published today in the Japan Times about recent stories in the Japanese media. One was about the Oya Soichi Library in Tokyo's Setagaya Ward which compiled a year-by-year listing of the 10 most popular search requests during the Heisei Era. Only one entity, AKB48, topped the library's listing for three consecutive years in 2011-13 and it also came second in 2010 and 2014. The main image in the article is of a rack containing copies of 'So long!' drama DVDs:

NMB48 is currently already managed by a different company anyway and it is not dead yet. As long as 48 groups and our Oshimen are still around, we don't have worry too much.
