Today got me thinking about what else Nogi could achieve as a group. Already considered successful as they have won 2 Japan Record Awards, 6 Kohaku appearances, singles hitting million copies, performed at most major concert venues, members getting plenty outside work like CM, model etc. Anything else that they have yet to achieve?

 

they wanted to become huge outside of japan, so maybe that one, even if it's harder now with covid... but the truth is that at this point they're just going to follow AKB's path.

I don't remember much but I think they started as a unit with One Night Carnival performed by Nogidan in Kishidan Genshou 2014. Maaya joined Nogidan in August 2016. Original members as below:

Vocal : Noujo Ami (graduated), Nakamoto Himeka (graduated)
Guitar : Fukagawa Mai (graduated), Kawamura Mahiro (graduated)
Bass : Nakada Kana (graduated)
Keyboard : Nagashima Seira (graduated)
Drum : Saito Asuka

I think it was an Under member thing considering that majority of the band's member have or are usually Under members. The exceptions being Asuka and MaiMai who themselves have been Unders. I may be wrong, but most likely management found out Asuka can play the drums so they assembled the group around her. A little something to showcase Asuka. Not that the other members are forgotten, it's just that she's the one constant for all incarnations. I wonder if there's a replacement for her once she's graduated?

I'm pretty sure the selection for Nogidan was largely based on how well a member plays a certain instrument.

Found an image of news from around 9 years ago about Nogizaka first hit campaign.

 

iirc asuka only starts playing drums when nogidan forms she said it on some tv shows

 

Interesting find. This is from the "Nationwide 8 Location Bullet PR Tour" in Episode 19 of NogiDoko, where the 16 senbatsu members for the first single handed out 4600 packs of tissues to the public.
I wonder if anyone kept their tissues as a memento and still has them today?

Thank you everybody. I heard that sayuringo learned guitar for playing in the gig thats why i guess everybody can be nogidan if sony really want to give them chances. But i know that wada maya play piano since she was a kid. I wonder if sony will let momoko joined the band someday or in the shibuya blue live.
