    "The Tokyo metropolitan government on Wednesday adopted legislation recognizing same-sex partnerships, which would extend some rights that apply to married heterosexual couples — but falls short of approving same-sex unions as legal marriages.

    Tokyo is now the ninth of 47 Japanese prefectures to make the change. The recognition has been very slow to be adopted nationwide, amid very gradual cultural acceptance of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in Japan and throughout Asia.

    Japan is the only country in the Group of Seven largest economies not to recognize same-sex marriages. Taiwan is the only Asian nation or territory to legalize them."

    She came to London for HYPER JAPAN in 2015 and she did a special edition of J-Melo from there which I still have on my old PVR (it's copy-protected so I can't make an MP4 backup). I saw her on stage as part of an NHK World promotion where she performed 'Sparkle' and 'Let It Go', here's a couple of photos I took with the cr*ppy phone I had then:

    A court in Osaka has dismissed a lawsuit that argued Japan’s ban on same-sex marriage was unconstitutional.

    The ruling on Monday dealt a setback to LGBTQ rights activists in the only Group of Seven nation that does not allow people of the same gender to marry.

    Three same-sex couples – two male and one female – had filed the case in the Osaka district court, only the second to be heard on the issue in Japan.

    The Osaka court ruling conflicts with a decision from a court in Sapporo in March 2021 that ruled that the same-sex marriage ban was unconstitutional. The ruling did, however, recognise that the ban infringed on individual dignity and said that “there have not been enough discussions among people in Japan” on the appropriate system to realise benefits for same-sex couples, according to Kyodo.

    According to the Dutch Wikipedia several prefectures and cities do extend some minimal recognition for same sex couples, it's mainly the conservative central government that blocks it (of course).

    the acceptance is higher than I would have expected for a conservative country as Japan (must add Ipsos poll only 40%)

    I should add that in the Netherlands not that long ago the only gays shown on TV were the weirdos, just like Japan.

    Give it 5 to 10 years, it probably will change .... or next year if the US tells their colony to change their ways :)


    In other news, 岸本さとこ (Kishimoto Satoko) has been elected as the first female mayor of Suginami, a special ward of Tokyo with over half a million inhabitants.
    What makes it special is that she lived in Leuven with her Belgian husband and had already bought a return ticket according to her husband when it was announced she had won.

    Remember when Myao danced to this at Request Hour 2013?

    We know she was the first KPop fan at 48g

    Even I guess, if KPop already recruited foreigners, especially from Japan in 2000s, Myao would pick this over joining AKB48

    She's graduated from AKB48 but since she's now already 29, is she still good to create a new multinational KPop girl group?
