    - Mogi Shinobu
    - Inagaki Kaori
    - Yoshikawa Nanase
    - Omori Maho

In the article former Soukantouku Takahashi Minami talks about a clear difference between 48 and 46 groups. commenting on a program that eavesdropped on Hinatazaka Members in the dressing room while the Hina46 captain was discussing investing her monies. Takamina says that is something not discussed in the 48 dressing room. The big difference is between the age and education level of the members as they are added to the group. 46 members tend to be older, college level applicants, to keep in line with their image. 48 tends to draft in members with an average age of 14.

can we infer then, that AKB hijacked the next gen 46ers to form the 17th gen kenkyuseis? whatever, it seems like a good move and investment for AKB48. necessary for the group's survival.

I don't agree that it's all about their age. 46 members are more professional (Have you seen the background of the 5th gen of Nogizaka?), yes. They are more "about business" and "less school" =) 46 members go to work when 48 members... I don't really know :^^;: Lose half of the gen before anyone shows up in the sembatsu? possible [hehe] Therefore, we will see the difference later between the 17th generation and others. Or not :flower:

Imo 46 (esp. nogi) likes to shake the senbatsu lineup a lot, whereas 48 does not, especially back then when sister group members were dominating senbatsu lineup. That's part of (I think) why we don't see much of the newer gen of 48g in senbatsu. Too many obscure popularity level to achieve senbatsu.

It sounds to me like you're struggling to find the right words or something because what you wrote sounds kind of vague to me. I feel like a good way to explain the difference is simply: 'Sony usually picks girls from higher socioeconomic status (ie. higher classes) to be in their sakamichi groups.'
Because I wouldn't say the 48 members themselves are any less 'professional' or less 'work' focused (especially when historically the 46 members usually did less work than most 48 members).

Agreed. If the group's promotional image is that of elite private high school girls with a rich/refined/oujosama image then it naturally makes sense to pick a lot of girls who actually attended private high schools and are from rich/refined society so Sony tends to pick a lot of girls from higher socioeconomic backgrounds (subconsciously and indirectly though. obviously applications/auditions don't have questions about their parents wealth lol). Plus physical attractiveness and wealth generally tend to be positively correlated.

But I doubt it's mostly upper-middle class girls who apply for these groups. The latest sakamichi audition had over 87,000 applicants. I mean most girls of all backgrounds would dream of dancing and singing on a big stage or appearing on TV like the idols they idolize. And then on top of that think of how many girls would love the potential additional benefits like the chance to get exclusive modelling contracts, walk the runway at fashion shows, get TV work or acting roles in dramas, etc etc. Even just getting to be in the same group as the idols you idolize. Pretty sure girls from all walks of life desire those opportunities and thus would apply.

Sorry my wording was a bit sloppy but I wasn't trying to say sakamichi asks applicants what their family's wealth is in the applications and auditions - not only would it be despicable but also illegal. But clearly they have an indirect predisposition towards picking lots of girls from more prosperous backgrounds, whether due to image or due to confounding factors.

""From the graduate Mitsuki Maeda who was scheduled to appear in the "AKB48 14th gen member 10th anniversary special performance" tomorrow, July 22nd (Friday), a close relative was infected with the new coronavirus, and Maeda himself also waited at home. I was informed that I had decided to observe my health.
"AKB48 14th gen member 10th anniversary special performance" will be postponed because it is difficult to complete it without 6 14th gen members."

A little surprised no one noticed. I only learned of it because Mako tweeted about it.

"We will be well prepared again, and I am sure all six of us will be able to deliver the show together .
I am so sorry to all of you who have been looking forward to the show, but under the circumstances, each of us is doing our best, and honestly, all we can do is pray for the best.

I believe it's indeed pretty easy to spot applicants' socioeconomic backgrounds.
    - Specialty, ones listing ballet, piano, calligraphy. kendo, horse riding etc. as their specialty cannot come from a humble background.
    - Clothes, no explanation needed.
    - Address, in Japan, Tokyo especially, they are poorer and wealthier districts. I did not know this until a contestant in Girl Planets 999 was insulted for being poor because she came from Setagaya.
    - School, certainly, private schools come with different rates of tuition fees and it's easy to know.
    - Mannerism.

Generally , I don't mind member's background. However, I think there are downsides with too poor or too rich candidates:
    Too poor:
    - Maybe looked down by some other members.
    - Risk of having past shady businesses such as selling used underwear, sugar-daddy, enjo kousai, etc. Once her past was digged by someone, a devastating scandal is guaranteed.
    Too rich:
    - Possibly spoiled.

It almost seems like you're implying poor people do not have a moral code, which I kinda take issue with.
I'm pretty sure there are plenty of reasonably well to do girls who have sugar daddies.
And there are plenty of very rich people who have no morals at all (cue Kardashians) .... or even worse.
