^Sales for the last couple of days have probably been helped by the HS events at Tower and HMV as well as the dispatch of CDs from the Limista sign-kais.

This makes you wonder how much the graduated members contributed to the sales of the previous single?
That is why DH keep calm. They has all the data!

We know some of them contributed a lot. But this single has two additional online talk dates, and those sell better than in person. Plus members like Mogi, Naamin, and Hiichan are still available for one last time.

You're right, maybe next time they can give Yuiyui, Yuiri and Naru 100 slots.

I really love this single. Hands down, best single of neo-AKB/current era AKB ^_^

    For me:
Song: IdolNanja, NemoHa, DouKimi, HisaPuri, Motokare

Choreo: Nemoha, IdolNanja, Doukimi, HisaPuri, Motokare

PV: IdolNanja, HisaPuri, Doukimi, Nemoha (would rank higher if they removed that long ass interview in the middle), Motokare

HisaPuri deserved more love, it broke the combo of bad PVs.

Here's to hoping Yui gets to center the next single as well, or at least double center with someone.

Here's a little treat to commemorate the single getting to over half a million sales in one week :1st:

Manifesting it to be with Zukky. She's the only girl I can visualize double centering an A-side with Yuiyui tbh

    You are underestimating 17ki & 18ki.
Wota always said they are done with AKB when their oshimen graduate yet they still remain and find new oshimen. lol

I'm not underestimating anything. But let's compare each 17ki and 18ki sales with people of similar sales.

    Hashimoto Eriko 19/66 - Taguchi Manaka 17/66 (1)
    Sato Airi 10/66 - Shitao Miu 9/66 (1)
    Mizushima Miyuu 7/66 - Omori Maho 7/66 (1)
    Hirata Yuki 2/54 - Taniguchi Megu 2/54 (1)
    Hotei Moka 5/36 (1) - Nagano Serika 5/36
    Akiyama Yuna 4/36 - Masai Mayuu 4/36 - Gyoten Yurina 4/36
    Ota Yuki 1/36 (2) - Muto Orin 2/36 (1)
    Kudo Kasumi 3/30 - Otake Hitomi 2/30
    Narita Kohina 1/30 (1) - Kubo Hinano 1/30 - Kohama Kokone 1/30 - Hatakeyama Nozomi 1/30 - Yamaguchi Yui 1/30 - Kurosu Haruka 1/30 - Saito Haruna 1/30
    Arai Sae 1/27 - Ma Chia-Ling 1/18

See what I mean? Everyone talks about how much Eriko sells, but it's just a bit more than Manaka, still less than Oden and it hasn't improved that much since like... the second sales?
Aichan, the absolute ace, is similar to Shitao. Mizumin the same as Maho who people make fun of for selling less than you'd expect considering her recent push. Hotei is comparable to Serika, how much was Serika selling before? 18ki's new ace (according to DH) sold the same as Gyoten who just days ago was crying on SR because her sales sucked. Kasumin, the one who was almost a Sakamichi sold as much as Chake. Chake! Hinano and Yuichi, UNLAME girls, selling the same as Kurosu or Saito Haruna. And then there's Sae.
Yes, they're selling, but so is everyone else. And these are the ones who sold out slots. Now compare them to Ayamin, Zunchan, Kururun, Hiyuka, Ayanan, Kyoka...
When AKB lost the Maedas, the Oshimas, the Shinoda's, the Takahashis, the Watanabes, etc. it was still selling million of copies (until Niigata happened) and the number of votes in the Sousenkyo kept rising. Was it because it was still as popular as before and didn't lose any fans?
What I know is that it's getting harder for an MV to reach a million views and Honda Hitomi, K-Pop's Honda Hitomi, will have a graduation concert in an handshake venue. But at least people are getting tired of Sakamichi too.

These are interesting comparisons. Only time will tell whether these girls will start to fall behind once their freshness wears off (17ki is now starting to be on the cusp between new and established imo, their fans were already defensive over 18ki). At the moment, I think these sales are decent for members who have been part of the group for about a year now, a year and a half nearly.

I know Yuiyui was known as a handshake monster in the early days, does anyone still have data of her from 2015/16? Same with Yuiri and Naachan, would be interesting to see what their sales looked like at the start.

I'm just curious to see whether the top sellers of 2023 had slow starts as well, or whether they always did really well. That would give some of these girls a chance. The issue with girls like Megu, Maho, Gyoten etc is that the chances of them going up are slimmer than those of KKS. Mogi was an exception, not the rule :/

Sad about Hiichan's gradcon venue but music videos have never been a good metric for AKB. KFC and Hebirote are their most watched MVs as far as I know, with 236M and 177M respectively.

I checked all of 48 Group's video counts on Youtube and compared with sales. For the sake of consistency, I didn't include songs where the group didn't upload an official mv at all (not even short version, dance version, etc). I also didn't count pre-SSK singles for sales, but that being said...

Oogoe Diamond is the worst-selling single of AKB48 (considering the above metrics), but is the 6th most viewed music video on Youtube.
RIVER is the 5th worst-selling, but 12th most viewed video.

The most viewed Youtube video of the new era is Doushitemo Kimi ga Suki da with 4.3M views - more than Kuchibiru ni Be My Baby, Shoot Sign, 11gatsu no Anklet, Sentimental Train or Shitsuren, Arigatou.

Some songs simply have a really high view count because they've been on Youtube for years... it's also the same with SKE48: Aozora Kataomoi is SKE's worst selling single, but 2nd most viewed MV on youtube. 1!2!3!4! YOROSHIKU is the 3rd worst selling, but their most viewed music video of all time. Meanwhile, FRUSTRATION is their least viewed MV despite selling 450k - still quite far away from the most recent single, Suki ni Nacchatta with 377k, which is their highest selling single since... FRUSTRATION.

Keep in mind, SKE48 only uploaded short versions of their mvs for years but looking at view count, it doesn't look like SKE48 fans care. They did a bit with Igai ni Mango (first full MV on youtube), but not really much since then.

    15. Kaze wa Fuiteiru - AKB48 Team SH - 145k

    Notes:
    • China obviously doesn't use Youtube a lot, so Team SH's low numbers shouldn't be surprising. I don't know if Youtube is blocked in Taiwan or if it's commonly used.
    • For Nogi and Keyaki, I counted the MV view numbers from their Japanese region-locked MVs. Nogi and also Hinata also have some of their MVs posted on SONY Taiwan's channel, but I didn't count that. I'm just a single human doing this manually lol

Anyway, super long TLDR - I doubt in any case AKB48 will be invited back to Kouhaku this year. It's gonna feel very different with no 48G and seemingly also no Johnny's this year. Japanese idol music is definitely entering a new era.

give her a break. selling 19 slots in her first year is an outstanding achievement! how many slots has Yuiyui sold in her first year?
don't compare her to members who have been in the group for over 9 years.

that was my point. they lost many popular members but they still selling millions because many japanese wotas (and you too, NARUMI oshi) are still there. they just changing oshimen. not quit.

of course the NGT48 incident tarnished 48G's reputation and affected their sales. but the biggest factor was because they stopped selling sister group handshake tickets. and I won't deny that some fans also getting tired and switching to 34G (right decision).

but they will starting the new system. we don't know yet what will happen beside that they will switch to 46G style with no group and doing 16-nin stage again.
they probably will revive the sub-unit again maybe? making a new original stage maybe? doing a new show like AKBingo again maybe? providing a vocal training (because now it's more affordable) maybe? providing Chinese language course maybe? we don't know.

but what we know now is the SALES RISES

This is not a fair comparison... You're comparing girls who have been in the group for 1,5 year (17th gen) or just a few months (18th gen) to girls who have been in the group for like, 10 years. Eriko selling 19 slots in her 2nd year is not the same as Manaka selling 17 slots in her 7th year. Yuna selling 4 slots just after joining is something to celebrate, Yurina selling 4 slots after being an idol for almost 10 years would make her sad, yes (it could have been worse though we've seen a lot of AKB members being there for that amount of time and selling 0).

This isn't just about how long they've been in the group and how many people know them, but also how these girls started. Some of them debuted in 2013-2016 when AKB was still very popular and successful, releasing their biggest songs like KFC and 365, having big names like Sasshi, Mayuyu and more, when all the sister groups were doing great, when AKB was even promoting Nogi and other Sakamichi groups. That's how popular AKB was... so whoever debuted in that period of time obviously had a stronger start than someone debuting in AKB now. That makes the success of Eriko or Yuna (or any new gen) all the more impressive. it just can't be compared like this... The sales of old gens are most likely not going to change in future singles unless something special happens (for example, Mogi's rise after YuuNaaMogiOn). Meanwhile the sales of 17th/18th gen are going to change at every single from now, most likely they'll do better, they're very new. (well ideally, the sales of old gens will improve too in the next singles, considering the group lost so many members, the remaining should do better...)

They didn't lose the million sales because of the NGT controversy, Sustainable sold 2 million copies and that was after the controversy (it also has close to 10 million views on YouTube...). What made them lose the million sales was that they stopped having sister groups doing handshakes for AKB (or being associated at all), they took a 1,5 year break, and some other bad management decisions (+ natural decline of popularity through the years, popular members graduating, etc. etc.).

But if you see now, their gap with Sakamichi is not that big, for the first week, they have less than 100k gap with Sakurazaka/Hinatazaka's 1st week sales... The gap with Nogi is 200k (I know they got a bit of a boost from selling their CDs at their tour or something). All the numbers here. Sakamichi are considered the top idols right now, and AKB, in their 18th year, past their peak since long ago, are not doing that bad compared to them. Btw the tweet also has the Sasshi group numbers. The groups are selling well, and on the rise, but still very far from AKB's level (or SKE).
