That huge hiatus between Shitsuren and Nemohamo certainly didn't help either. They should have released at least 2 singles between that time but i guess they were too afraid of losing that precious 1 million streak(which i think it's dumb since not even Nogizaka is selling 1million weekly nowadays). Unfortunaly, many akb girls lost their timing during the years because of management + sister groups, it took 8 years for them to do akb only senbatsu and finally push more than 2-3 kenkyuusei.

The current situation we're witnessing is the result of a huge chain of errors which started several years ago. We can only hope that the management learns with the past mistakes and overcome this tragic scenario with (at least a bit of) glory. 17ki, 18ki and even the upcoming 19ki will have a heavy burden on their shoulders. AKB in a short while will be pretty much them.

It's ironic as well because this certainly isn't a new issue. The 12 through 15th generations were waiting for so long too, and outside of Tomu through Senbatsu and the Musketeers, most of them got shafted for the older members. I would even go as far as to say 9ki was the last generation to be promoted well within their expected timeline. Unless you were a top sister group member or an outlier like Naachan it was pretty impossible to be seen outside of the theatre. It's only extremely apparent now that we've got AKB only Senbatsu's, which had a long gap bc of covid, which then affected the theatre shows. It's absolutely tragic but it's also the only outcome to this situation I would have expected.

The best case for the group now is to push the newbies as much as possible because they're quickly making up the majority of the group.

I would even go as far as to say 9th gen was the only generation to be promoted well outside of OG members. I don't even know how much they actually did do for 2ki and 3ki cause the group was so unknown back then

5th gen was quite *relatively* well pushed. But yeah the 9th generation hype was really huge

Wow! Now come to think of it after 5ki, I can only remember one or two girls from 6th & 7th and 8th is a total mind blank.

Double wow, I totally forgot Nishikawa Nanami from Nogi was in 8th gen.

You could argue the 13th gen got a decent push as well with Minegishi Team 4 & the Three Musketeers

but in general pushes were either to heavy handed or dropped after halfhearted attempts

(and just a theory, it might be that staff were just more in touch with the fanbase when it all was smaller, so it was easier to see which member was really popular with fans
and yeah, the SSK should have been a good indicator, but the results of that are of course skewed by power voters and didn't reflect the complete fandom, did work as an indicator where the most money was to be made though (short term) )

8th gen is of course a thing in and of itself ... none of them even became a full member

Oh this is sad... she's actually my current oshi in NMB :(

She wasn't included in senbatsu until Sukida Mushi (the sousenkyo single), where she ranked 8th. Definitely an undervalued asset of the group

Did she state a reason or a future plan?
BTW this is the first time I've heard of "ni-oshi" word.

She just says she's accomplished everything she wanted to do and wants to support STU48 from the outside rather than from the inside. No final activity date has yet been decided.

'Ni-oshi' means '2nd favourite', I've seen it used widely in posts here and elsewhere. (My favourite member in STU is Chiho.)
