Youkokurama, clever move to organize a list of what songs have been translated so far with links to all of them. I'm actually surprised I translated 12 songs already. I also translated "Boku no Hana", but that's under the "Densen Uta" thread (technically making it 13 songs so far). Just be careful with giving due credit - some of the songs on this thread may have been posted by one person, but translated by another. For the record, I post my own translations.

And by all means please translate "AKB48" with pictures! I'd really appreciate it! I tried translating it myself, but found out that there are a ton references to both the Akihabara district and the theater the girls perform in - and I haven't been to either (or even Japan as a matter of fact). The pictures would certainly help out with figuring out what these different places look like.

And for those eager for translations, I'd like to personally apologize for my own downtime. College is just absolutely time consuming. However, I'm still working on songs when I get the chance. The next one will most likely be posted by this weekend. Thank you all for your patience!

A Few Side Notes - 1.) Shounan is a resort area in Japan southwest of Tokyo. 2.) This song featured several onomatopoeic words - "Gira Gira Gira" and "Kira Kira Kira". I took the liberty to translate them loosely, though in a way they lose their original flare. 3.) Overall, I felt that the song had several gaps that required filling in order to flow well in English.

So yeah - without further ado, here's the translation!

“Namida no Shounan” – “Shounan of Tears”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

    CHU CHU CHU
    CHU CHU CHU CHU
    CHU CHU CHU
    CHU CHU CHU CHU

    The wave of falling dominoes
    Touches close to my heart
The sandy shore of my memories
    A midsummer clock
The terrace of a shore house
The same sky as last year
    Passion’s sun
    Shines away the solitude

    We often resembled lovers
    A fleeting love without knowing
    Our bodies brought together,
    But a love uncalculated

    SPARKLINGLY
    Suntanned (the color of wheat)
On my skin (a trace of the swimsuit)
A changing room of that love
    Cannot be forgotten
    SPARKLINGLY
    Even now (this pinky ring)
    Always (I won’t take off)
    Once more,
    I want to be loved
    Shounan of tears

    With a short-cut hair,
I looked like I became an adult
The sound of the waves repeats
    A painful premonition

    With you on this beach,
    A played wakeboard
    At a memory’s corner
    I bury in the sand

    BRIGHTLY
It shines (a far away place)
    Dazzling (the horizon)
    In this chest,
    They remain –
    These déjà vu sands
    HOW BRIGHT IS
The time itself (each time I turn around)
And this jewelry (a glittering thing)
    Twice more,
    I can’t meet you, right?
    Shounan of tears

    Scooped up with a spoon
    The lemon-flavored shaved ice
    That summer’s kiss
    In an instant, it dissolved

    SPARKLINGLY
    Suntanned (the color of wheat)
On my skin (a trace of the swimsuit)
A changing room of that love
    Cannot be forgotten
    SPARKLINGLY
    Even now (this pinky ring)
    Always (I won’t take off)
    Once more,
    I want to be loved
    Shounan of tears

There's been significant talk of this song in one of the discussion threads, so I figured I'd give it a shot. I hope you enjoy!

“Darui Kanji” – “A Dull Feeling”
Original Lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

    Even today, Papa
    At the “workplace”
    Is busy with the women
    As for me,
    I got my ears pierced
    By a stranger
    Who doesn’t know anything

    Mama is somewhere
    Probably learning something
    Taking it in ambitiously
    A revenge for youth’s folly

    At the UFO Catcher
    I’m alone
If I just put in a coin
    Something
Other than love that I crave
    Enters my hand

    Somehow there’s a dull feeling
    Even breathing is bothersome
    Somehow there’s a dull feeling
Is okay that I didn’t go home?
Is it okay that I was doing something?

    As for my friends,
    They can only show off
Like actors of this outgrown place
    Always for somebody
    They seem so disconnected
    With the same extra make-up

    For the teacher
    I’m an excellent student
    A dreamt-up marionette
If you’re watching from far away,
    We’re like insects

Even if you do a bad thing,
    You need energy
    Before you know it,
    A rebellion
    Has already passed

    Everything has a dull feeling
    Even if I am alive…
    Everything has a dull feeling
In this way, is it okay for me to disappear?
Is it okay if I go far away?

    Somehow there’s a dull feeling
    Even breathing is bothersome
    Somehow there’s a dull feeling
Is it okay that I didn’t go home?
Is it okay that I was doing something?
Is it okay that I go far away?

Papa comes back in the morning from his overtime of love
    Mama is recently single
I don’t want to do anything
    Farewell, bye-bye, oh oh

    Dull, right?
    Dull, right?
    Dull, right?
    Dull, right?

Thanks a lot for the Daruikanji translation :D And also thanks to everyone for providing translations, lyrics and colour codes.

I think that song could have been a pretty good single for AKB48. The lyrics seem to be in the same category as Seifuku and Keibetsu, and the song itself is incredible.

Could I request a translation for Blue Rose please?

As requested by yumestarlet, here is "Warning". I apologize for the massive delay. It took a while to grasp the overall concept of the song, and even longer to translate it properly. I had to make some stretches on the meaning of some words, reorganize some word orders, and plug in some English fillers to make the song flow properly. But overall, I think it's fine.

And CDevil, I can take a stab at translating "Blue Rose" for you. Just give me some time to get it done since I have other songs lined up, and college is time-consuming for me.

So yeah - without further ado, here's the song translation! I hope you like it!

    “Warning”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

Though totally naive for just ten minutes, it was dark
It hurt that despite the honesty, there was no regret
For me, it’s a case-by-case rate of pain
If tomorrow comes, we can’t meet
And I want to meet him

You’re a rascal; but if you become a scoundrel, that’s mean
For the sake of being liked, let’s try to be dependent on others
Side by side like a girl
But whispering to profit from other people’s affection is the worst

As for a maiden’s ambition for love,
More comfortably she wants it to put it in her hand
Even if she stretches up impossibly,
    It must to be life-sized
    Because she can’t hold it

    Your color isn’t certain
    It looks dyed
If I’m restrained, I want to cancel on the same day
    With an unexpected, sudden bye-bye-bye
If it can be a good feeling,
Even a breath won’t continue, right?

Love is everything to a maiden
    She won’t need anything else
If it’s an encounter of coincidence
    She’ll believe in fate
Even if it is an exception…

As for a maiden’s ambition for love,
More comfortably she wants it to put it in her hand
Even if she stretches up impossibly,
    It must to be life-sized
    Because she can’t hold it

    WOW WOW WOW…

    Warning!
    Warning!
    Warning!

    For your sake
    Let’s be careful!
    Deceived!
    By all the maidens!
    But just for
    Our sake
    With that said habit
    It’ll be an infectious feeling
    Just the two us

    Warning!
    Warning!
    Warning!

i know this has already been posted by gideon123 before, but please let me post my own translation of this song. entering the "-ber" months, i finally decided to start listening to christmas songs, and of course first in my list was chiru's song. :)

so here's my own interpretation of Anata to Christmas Eve:

anata to christmas eve (a christmas eve with you)

beyond any present anyone could give
all i wanted was to be held in your arms
    against your dark blue coat
to lay my head throughout the night

even as the delicate snow begins to cover us
even as the streetlights start to turn on
    i shall never let go
    from this place
    'til the second after forever

    for the world's most wonderful
    christmas eve, i thank you
and someday, as we look back upon this day
merry christmas, and i love you

    with no need for words
the flow of time shall speak of love
    on such a meaningful night
just the two of us, together

even if the snowfall is far from over
even if it continues to rain down upon us
    everything's fine as it is
for none shall comfort me better
than the warm blanket that is you

somewhere in this world borns a whisper
    a promise made by lovers
and from this day forth, let ours begin
merry christmas and i love you

    for the world's most wonderful
    christmas eve, i thank you
and someday, as we look back upon this day
merry christmas, and i love you

somewhere in this world borns a whisper
    a promise made by lovers
and from this day forth, let ours begin
merry christmas and i love you
merry christmas and i love you

@haruna_hamasaki: again, feel free to grab this if you think it's good enough :)

^ Sounds like a good translation a to me. Good job! I actually think it flows more poetically than my own translation.

And for future reference, just because I've translated a song already doesn't mean nobody else can. Likewise, just because someone else has posted a translation already doesn't mean that I won't post my own.

I'm definitely not an authority on the Japanese language - as a matter of fact, I got the title wrong for "Anata to Christmas Eve" and likewise translated it wrong. I'll go back to fix my translation. But more importantly, songs are a work of art. Likewise, I personally believe song translations are a form of art. We react to works of art in different ways based on our personal views, opinions, beliefs and whatnot. So in essence, a translation is a reflection of one's personality and can technically count as a work of art, right?

So yeah! Express yourself! If you've got your own translation for a song, by all means post it! I'm really curious what other people think of what the song lyrics mean.
