Can somebody please tell me what the difference between a softsub and a hardsub is? I have no idea.

    Thanks

Soft subs refer to those separate sub files you load onto your player. Hard subs are subs which are incorporated into the videos. I very much prefer soft subs~ for PVs at least.

An example of hard subs would be the stuff translated by Aitakatta. The benefit of hard subs is that it's much tougher for people to rip off your subs. It's also much easier for people who have no idea how to load soft subs. On the down side you can't turn them off.

Yeah I hate having to download low quality versions of a PV when I already own the DVD. But another benefit of hard subs though is that the timing is spot on. For soft subs, it is timed to a particular video so encodes of different framerates won't work with it.

This thread's been picking up lately with comments and whatnot from other people! And I've noticed the view count for this thread increasing rapidly as well! Awesome!

Sorry that I've been away for a while (college's been a killer this past week), so I'll take some time to address a few comments from other people.

If you can wait a while, I can take on the job!

I've noticed a lot of PV's in general don't necessarily have anything to do with the lyrics of the song. Maybe the PV you imagined still can work.

I personally don't mind that you make hardsubs out of my translations. Just give proper credit where it's due, and I'll be happy! However, I do know that people have either expressed interest in or have already used some of my translations for their subtitle projects, so there may be a possibility of repeated works.

You're very much welcome! As for using my translations for your fansub release in the future, I don't mind. But like I said earlier there might be some repetition since other people have either expressed in or have already used some of my translations for their projects. Nevertheless, just give proper credit where it's due, and I'll be happy!

I hope I managed to answer everything. If I've missed anything, by all means feel free to let me know! And without further ado, here's the next translation! I hope you guys like it!

    “JESUS”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

    Suddenly I burst into tears
    The late night siren
    The forest of tall buildings
    I am a stray sheep

    I chased after you
    Until I came here
    The city doesn’t sleep
    The neon lights are poison

    The one who passes by
Is either an angel or a devil
    Those eyes are like knives
    Like wolves’ concealed fangs

    Save me, Jesus
    Come around to me soon
    Protect me, Jesus
I don’t want to be consumed
    Save me, Jesus
    I look completely surrounded
    Protect me, Jesus
    Impatiently temptation approaches

    I ran and escaped
From the empty underground shopping center
    The shutters are lowering
    A certain death for me

Even my cell phone is out range
In this secret room of concrete
    This room I’m in
I know not of its location
Is love’s way out to the right?
Or is it to the left?
    Instinctively I make a choice
Because it’s as secret even to Papa and Mama

    You are Jesus!
    Appear like the wind!
    Jesus of love!
Hold me with your tender arms!
    You are Jesus!
I want you to find me
    Jesus of love!
A crisis that can’t wait for even a second

    Save me, Jesus
    Come around to me soon
    Protect me, Jesus
I don’t want to be consumed
    Save me, Jesus
    I look completely surrounded
    Protect me, Jesus
    Impatiently temptation approaches

    You are Jesus!
    Appear like the wind!
    Jesus of love!
Hold me with your tender arms!
    You are Jesus!
I want you to find me
    Jesus of love!
A crisis that can’t wait for even a second

LOL @ Jesus lyrics. That song gets more and more rediculous.

    Thank you!

@ Alaksandus -- Thanks for the explanation. So, if I watch a DVD and I can turn the subtitles on and off, those are "softsubs?" If they are permanently embedded in the video, then it is a "hardsub" and there's no way to change it?

Can you compare it to layers in Photoshop? You can have separate layers (turning them on and off as you please) which would be like having softsubs, but once you merge the layers or flatten the image, it is like a "hardsub?"

Yup, it's just like that. Ha I never thought of explaining them like layers. Softsubs can be turned on and off they are just like those on the DVD player (in fact you can burn softsubs with your videos onto DVDs and they will work that way). Whereas hardsubs are flattened onto the video.

“Kimi wa pegasus” – “You are a Pegasus”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

    The wings on your back
    Give in
    This dream abruptly ends
Even though I stretch out this hand,
    It’s “Good-bye” even to love’s vestige

    You appear more crestfallen
    Than a pearl
    The loneliness within my chest
    You’re seeing through it, right?
In the cracks of the chest
    Where nobody was buried,
Only a deep despair came and went from view

    Fly through the sky
    Oh Pegasus
    What’re your thoughts?
    Are you deciding on separating?

    On your own
    You cast aside your wings
    And fall down headfirst
    The heart bleeds
For this romance, red like the setting sun
    If the two of us
    Can’t meet by chance,
    Without parting from you
I’ll look up to the sky
Always I believed in the legend

This love that can’t be mended
    Illusion’s knife
    Without knowing, it damages it
    It has been cut
    With more experience,
    I further understand
I’ve made a mistake on this one and only path

    That figure
Oh, even though it can’t be seen
    If it’s there,
    Now, I understand

    The wings on your back
    Give in
    This dream abruptly ends
Even though I stretch out this hand,
    It’s “Good-bye” even to love’s vestige
    From the start,
    You were Pegasus I’ve drawn
With the best of my imagination
    One that no one’s seen
A punishment that continues to remember love

    The wings on your back
    Give in
    This dream abruptly ends
Even though I stretch out this hand,
    It’s “Good-bye” even to love’s vestige
    From the start,
    You were Pegasus I’ve drawn
With the best of my imagination
    One that no one’s seen
A punishment that continues to remember love

    “Dakedo…” – “However…”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

On campus, the chime for the end of school rings
    A colorless sky
The baseball team is searching for a missing ball

By the bike rack at the corner,
I line up on the other side of the wall
    Without being able to speak
So as to return the CD I always asked to borrow,
I came here with a façade

    However…

    “I liked you”
I wanted to say it in the end
The trees in my chest sway in the wind
    “I liked you”
    My voice couldn’t come out
As though that moment went unnoticed
    I smiled

That the town isn’t far away
    You showed me
    Without the distance,
    You’ll disappear
    Tomorrow

The pool that shifted the waters
    Glistens and shines
    Like the future…
    Nothing began
Only time rusts the wire screen

    However…

“Even if I could say it now…”
    My heart is shouting
Memory is always a forgotten thing
“Even if I could say it now…”
    The tears seem to overflow
    The sunset dazzled my eyes
I hung my head in shame

    “I liked you”
I wanted to say it in the end
The trees in my chest sway in the wind
    “I liked you”
    My voice couldn’t come out
As though that moment went unnoticed
    I smiled

I originally hated this song when I first started translating songs by AKB48 because some parts were too awkward for me at the time to figure out. However, after working through it all and comparing my work to someone else's, I've managed to come up with my own unique and hopefully comprehensive translation - and I've also grown to appreciate the song a little more now.

But yeah! Without further ado, here's the next translation! I hope you guys like it!

“Doku RINGO wo tabesasete” – “Let me eat the poison apple”
Original Lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

Because I’m a girl, my heart is always racing
I stole an arrow from an angel like ‘Zoom Zoom’
Over there I shot it in the middle
    The curious energy bubbles over

    Stand on tip-toes
    Wink!
    What a love’s
    Graduation

I want to try the poison apple
    Run! Run! Run!
    Bite into the circle
    The skin and core, too…
    Even if my tummy hurts
    Nonchalance!
    Surely I won’t be disgusted

    There are ghosts and aliens
But even if that stuff a lie, it’s all good
Imagine the things important to you
If you can’t do that, there’s no point of living

    I close my eyes
    Kiss!
    I’m searching for
    Treasure!

I want to try the poison apple
    Kiss! Kiss! Kiss!
    I change
    Myself now
I don’t you want to regret
    Ever!
    I won’t hate eating it

I want to try the poison apple
    Run! Run! Run!
    Bite into the circle
    The skin and core, too…
    Even if my tummy hurts
    Nonchalance!
    Surely I won’t be disgusted

“Mail no namida” – “Mail’s tears”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

    Mail’s tears
    Even though they overflow,
My words are the only thing
    You never seem to notice

    Because it’s an uncertain love,
You don’t know how to listen
    An unexpected event,
With the feel of that meaning,
    Makes a detour around love

    The September wind
    Passes by
    At the intersection I notice
    Walking with you
    A girl I don’t know
    A question of my heart

    Mail’s tears
    Without little pictures
An idea of a different instance
    I always hide somewhere
    Mail’s tears
    An invisible thought
A part where I appear to cry
    On purpose I cheerfully
    Slap with both hands
    The person I love

When we talk on the phone,
    I seem clumsy
    That connection up until today
Until I get rid of it,
I can’t be sure of love

    With a woman
    It was just a walk
    Even though it was nothing,
    My own feelings
To the point of becoming bitter,
    I look for an answer

    Mail’s knock
    “Today, what were you doing?”
To the very end, I hit the characters
    With all my strength
    Mail’s knock
    I wait for a reply
    That I worried
    As though I laugh
    My groundless fears
I wish I could take back

    Mail’s tears
    Without little pictures
An idea of a different instance
    I always hide somewhere
    Mail’s tears
    An invisible thought
A part where I appear to cry
    On purpose I cheerfully
    Slap with both hands
    The person I love

Okay, the title's literal translation is "The future's door," but I figured it'd be better to say "A door to the future." I might change it in the future if I feel appropriate to do so.

But yeah, here's the next translation! I hope you guys like it!

“Mirai no tobira” – “A door to the future”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

    If I close my eyes,
    It’s probably visible there
Light leaks out from inside my eyelids

    Everyone,
    Somewhere in that chest
Is the exit that continues until tomorrow

If on this road we walk upon
    I feel worried,
    I’ll try opening that door

    The wind stirs
    The flowers sway
A new world that rose up to love
    No old footprints anywhere
    The wind stirs
    The flowers sway
    Only the future is waiting
    No matter the sadness,
We can put it behind us

    Ahead on the road
The walls rise up and close
    To those heights
    Even if I give up,

    The other side
    I think about
I gather the strength to try going there

    I have the self-confidence
    “The dream comes true”
    Let’s chant that charm

    The birds sing
    The many trees dance
No matter where on the blue sky,
There are no clouds up there in the background
    The birds sing
    The many trees dance
    Only hope is living
The walls of the bygone days
    We’re climbing over

    The wind stirs
    The flowers sway
A new world that rose up to love
    No old footprints anywhere
    The wind stirs
    The flowers sway
    Only the future is waiting
    No matter the sadness,
We can put it behind us

    The birds sing
    The many trees dance
No matter where on the blue sky,
There are no clouds up there in the background
    The birds sing
    The many trees dance
    Only hope is living
The walls of the bygone days
    We’re climbing over

I found this song to make more sense when sung from the point of view of a guy, even though a bunch of girls sing it. However, everyone else is free to imagine the song's lyrics to represent whatever feels right to them.

Anyway, here's the next translation as requested by Alaksandus! I hope you guys like it!

“Boku no uchiage hanabi” – “My launched fireworks”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

On a night of the summer festival,
    I happened to see you
    Scooping up goldfish
    In all earnestness
    A delicate yukata figure
    Beneath the incandescent lamp
The back of your frolicking self
    Your boyfriend next to you
    Secretly holds, right?

    For some reason I suddenly
    Am unneeded there
As though I was completely in love with you…

The launched fireworks are sad, right?
    Far too fleeting
Pretty lights of a moment from bygone days
The launched fireworks are sad, right?
    At the sky’s far side,
    The opening flowers
    Quietly vanish

    As for the love
    Inside my chest,
I was putting up an unnoticed façade
    I thought that
    We’re friends
You were visible in the distance
    I felt jealous

I stray from my circle of friends
And walk alone among the crowd
    The Japanese festival band
Can be heard from far away
    I become too sad
    Everyone lives on
    Telling lies to themselves
    Always I was hiding
    Our true feelings

At school I know about that side of you
The face without make-up that can’t be seen
    More, more, more
    I grew to like you

    The launched fireworks still rise
To the far side of the sky
The instance opens up my heart
    The launched fireworks still rise
    Always after the summer passes,
    I turn into an adult

    This unrequited love
    Seems to go on
    You’re with somebody…
    By myself,
    My love
    Looks like toy fireworks

The launched fireworks are sad, right?
    Far too fleeting
Pretty lights of a moment from bygone days
The launched fireworks are sad, right?
    At the sky’s far side,
    The opening flowers
    Quietly vanish

    As for the love
    Inside my chest,
I was putting up an unnoticed façade
    I thought that
    We’re friends
You were visible in the distance
    I felt jealous
