@shattering: It's nothing personal, don't worry What I mean is that AKB has had a strong wota fanbase all the time, when the group was just created it was mostly wotas that followed them, yet they had never achieved the kind of success they had now.

Even though wotas are a huge part of the fanbase and definitely help to inflate the sales with their buying multiple copies, it can't be attributed entirely to them, otherwise AKB would've sold millions ever since they debuted. There are casual fans of AKB too and they have become mainstream popular as a brand. Stuff like the karaoke thing I mentioned, I don't think HebiRote got to number one in karaoke because of only wotas, if it were like that BINGO! would have been number one as well

Well, fans that I meet at the event are always like that, so I always had that kind of feeling that they spend a lot of money for AKB. I brought 3 handshake tickets at one time to a National Handshake, and I thought that was a lot, but then the next person next to me said he brought 10, then next to him said brought 20 and not long after that, I saw someone who had a very thick bundle of tickets

Thank you for understanding I think the strength of wotas gets stronger now. And yes, a lot of casual people also sang Hebirote, a friend of mine who is not a fan of AKB also like hebirote very much and sings with me when we go to karaoke together. Usually the karaoke start with Hebirote and ends with Hebirote
Of course, I agree that casual fans also helped the sales, but I never found casual fans here that actually bought CD, well casual fans that I know anyway.

About the sales and that record, asking them about "Dangosankyodai" in no.4, that highest selling first week chart never implies the quality of the artists or music since the beginning.

p.s. I don't mean "Dangosankyodai" is a bad song, It's such a simple catchy, silly kids song and I remember I had loved this song too.

^ oh yes, i'm eager to find out as well. a no.1 is very possible this time. sakura no ki ni narou is already the 2nd all time highest points in a week according to their records (the first is gaga's born this way on the same week)

Oricon and United World Chart numbers are totally different?

Oricon only counts physical CD sales.

United World Charts does their own thing that includes airplay, digital downloads, physical singles & probably magical unicorns or something because I have no idea where they get their numbers from lol.

Hehe, but it seems UWC lost like half of AKBs 1st week physical sales that Oricon reported?
One would think those numbers would carry over?

Didnt Sakura no Ki ni Narou sell ~1M/1st week? UWC has 575.000, Beginner 442.000(it sold ~twice that according to Oricon) and so on...

The numbers mean nothing. They're just based on some sort of system unique to that site, and that's why this doesn't really impress me:

I think they're just made to compare tracks against each other each week and don't really express any continuity.

That looks like people re-selling it via Amazon, so not a new copy.

^ Actually, the ones under "新品" or "new" are unopened. People usually mass buy them for the photos and don't open the CD itself.

But yes, they are not directly from the theater.

It's always impressive to see something from Japan on that chart... I mean, Japanese music is stuck in Japan while everything else in the chart is worldwide.

Just a question, people are downgrading Everday's sales because its the election ballot single, saying its just the result of wotas buying multiple copies. I was wondering, was there any gimmicks or perks included in Sakura no ki Narou? Besides the handshake tickets of course. It also did well right? Almost a million in a week.
