Mmm, not really. The first single I bought was KwM limited edition in Tower Records, like...one or two single after it was released. So, depends on where you go and if the stock still last I guess.

 

Sometimes an earlier single can outsell a later one as can be seen in the Billboard chart for 2015/01/24:

In this chart, KnP is at #21 while Kibouteki Refrain is lower down at #32.

(and how do I remember this? It's because this is the very first Japanese chart I ever looked at and it's the reason why the very first AKB48 song I ever listened to was KnP even though it had been released some months earlier!)

 

At the last national handshake event I went to (about a year ago), they were officially selling limited editions at the venue.

 

It's limited edition, but they sell them until they are sold out. I happened to go to a CD store in Tokyo on the day of last national HS event when you could use the #Suki Nanda tickets, which was happening in Kobe. They were still selling #Suki Nanda limited editions, although as they wouldn't be too useful anymore, they were heavily discounted. And I didn't see all types at that particular CD store, but still, this shows they don't sell out fast (or not at all).

Jabaja still did amazing (waaaay better than i expected) considering it's the single before SSK and right after 9th album too

Sorry to bring up old conversation. I have a question very related to the topic. What if I got my hands on a limited edition of an old single, can I still use it for the recent handshake event?

To give you a picture, 3 weeks ago I used my national HS ticket from Anklet and Jabaja. I still have one from #SN but they do not accept it anymore.
The one I went 1-2 years ago accept the last 3 singles. So just check the details of each National HS on which single HS ticket they still accept.

Oh, I think they also open resale rounds again for Jabaja

 

Well, they still got:

Why wouldn’t they keep doing resales if there are plenty of open slots?

2nd round of resales should be today but they cancelled it since they already reached the quota Of course, I didn't win any of the 30 tickets I applied for in the previous round.

I don't see why they don't keep doing resales until the HS event like sister groups do. I mean, it would make sense to try and sell as many copies as possible. So many girls still have unsold slots so I don't get it why they cancelled it. My only theory is that they had leftover CDs they wanted to sell, and now these are gone, they can't be bothered to print more

 

That's basically what resales are for I think. They "print" enough theater editions to fill however many were ordered during the initial rounds, then hold resale rounds to make up for people who didn't pay.
