    I'm a bit confused. I know the announcement was exactly like this, but "something" is a bit vague :/
    Are they going to announce the senbatsu right there or will they just drop the dates and stuff like that? I feel like the latter is more likely to happen than the former.

    Following the usual practice before don't we just get a release date first, then the senbatsu after some time? Thus we have time to specualate about the senbatsu, concepts, etc?

    But nice.. I do hope AKB starts releasing 3 singles a year.

    The actual release date probably was planned to be announced on the now cancelled concert. They might or might not announce the senbatsu lineup there. But I do think as of right now management should already have the lineup fixed so if they want to announce the senbatsu on the show, they can.

    Having said that, they actually still have plenty of time between now and the start of theater edition sales since this single I'm predicting will be released at 4/20 the earliest. More realistically 4/27 since 4/20 might already be reserved for Hinatazaka46. But there is a problem with that 4/20 date, which is one of male idol group will have a release on that date (INI, from Produce 101). They normally tried to avoid having big releases on the same day, thus if Sony want to avoid not getting no.1 first day, they probably want that 4/27 date.

    For AKB, I think it is possible that if they announced their single during that concert, it will be on 4/20 (earlier dates already filled with either 48/46G and/or Johnny's/male idol group) because they probably don't know about INI to release new single on 4/20 (it was announced on 2/10). But now they know, they will definitely want to avoid that date if they can. So I think it will be either 4/27 or 5/4. I don't think there is a big group that have a release on that date.
    Since normally they start selling theater edition a month before the release, they actually have until mid March to announce the single detail. Normally by that time, all the information should have been revealed (senbatsu, song title, etc) so there is no pressure on them to actually announce the senbatsu tomorrow.

    Having said that, STU48 release do clash with King&Prince, likely because K&P announcement came only a day before STU48 announcement.

    Some might think it is not that important to avoid clashes, but for management, if they can avoid it, they will, since clash means less free publicity for them.
    *especially considering the fact that it is very likely that those big male idol group will have better first day and first week sales than AKB48. Even Nogi is likely to sell less less on first day vs them.

    One other thing which might or might not related to the announcement is TV Tokyo Music Festival on the next day. They said that AKB will have a dance collab. Whether this is related to the single or not, I don't know. I'm thinking probably not, but they might want to have the lineup to be the same as 59th single senbatsu to built the hype towards the 59th single.

    TL;DR I'm guessing they will announce the release date and the senbatsu tomorrow, but I wouldn't be surprised if they don't announce the senbatsu since they still have plenty of time until they fell obligated to announce the senbatsu (which is before they start selling the theater edition).

    Agreed but I think it's probably unrealistic this year, maybe in 2023 if there's no new super-covid variant intervenes before then.

    I'm guessing they'll put out a second single in September this year which is a traditional AKB release period and maybe next year we could have a March/June/September release sequence.

    If they're not performing the new song on Wednesday what would be the point of having so many intense lessons since the date of the concerts, some of them at night? Just because of Rumor? There's a lesson tonight. Mion will be there, Onishi and Naamin streamed before a lesson, some have sent their good night mails much earlier than usual. It's a red flag for those that streamed from home tonight.

    Team song please. New teams need new songs and if they don't have enough money to film 4 MVs they can hold an election between teams or some competitions and the winner will get MV for their team song.

    If they actually practicing for Wednesday, it doesn't mean the performance itself will be for the new song. It can simply be the thing that they say on the tin... a collab. Maybe the collab is difficult enough that they need to practice a lot. Of course they might also practicing for 59th single but the Wednesday performance is not related to it. Or they actually will perform 59th single on Wednesday.

    edit: The lineup for TV Tokyo Music Festival is basically Nemohamo Rumor senbatsu (Rei and Satopii included).

    The senbatsu for Wednesday performance has been announced. And no Naamin so yesterday lesson isn’t for that performance. Looking at the senbatsu I bet AKB48 will perform Rumor again.

    It wasn't for tomorrow's show. It's the Rumor senbatsu with Oden taking Yoko's spot and Yuihan's left vacant for the collab person.

    Yet, the mystery remains: what was Naamin (and a few other girls) doing there? What was it for? What can be so urgent that they couldn't schedule the lessons for a better time of the day? Some say they were shooting part of the MV today but that sounds more like wishful thinking.

    Team 8 has a stage play in May and most selectable members aren't part of the main cast. But that would mean Oden isn't in the senbatsu and such thing would be a new level of patheticness by DH, thus possible.

    Anyway, am I the only one who's already grown tired of Rumor? It was fine until the end of the year, but the cycle closed there. And now, almost two months later, same senbatsu, same replacements. Jesus! Move on!
