But I always thought that the goal of being in a coupling song and getting more screentime was to, one day, be one of those girls without much screentime in the senbatsu.

Nah, the goal of getting more screentime is getting more screentime.

The question is, can Onishi now make it back into the top 8?

It looks like an impossible task with around 16 millions behind.

Too bad, she was on a way to be a serious contender for the win.

The last day is going to be a blood bath for the bottom spots.

On a side note Covid broke Momoka's mainichi of more than 2200 days.

    Time's up
Congrats to all the top 8 finishers!
That was quite a competition and a crazy last day indeed.
Props to Onishi, Zunchan and Saho fans especially for great increases in the last day, shaking up the ranks.:1st:
Must be quite crushing for Harupyon and Nagichan and their fans, they worked hard too, looking at the gap between rank 10 and 11, but still misses the top 8 by just bit.
Hopefully they'll get some other job opportunities soon.

Overall it must be tiring for the members with the early morning, in-between jobs and late night streams, hopefully they all get a good rest!
Can't wait for the new coupling (and new single), as well as the new show!
It's Hiichan center, so quite a high chance of it being a dance song?

    EDIT:
Someone made a good visualization of the rank progressions through the event:

Puh, that's a bitter end for Harupyon and Nagi who lead rank 11 by more than double the points but only trail #8 by a couple of thousand points.

I feel especially sad for Pyon who can only enter these kind of events (same with the Dobon events) by sheer determination and a ridiculous amount of work on her own side.

Onishi came back from hell just to throw Pyon out in the last moments.
Hiichan can thank covid for removing a serious threat for the 1st place.

In the last 2 days, Momoka racked something like 35 millions. No one was even close to such an enormous amount.
Hadn't she been sick, she could have won with a wide margin.

I hear that very often, but if she hadn't been sick they wouldn't have saved that much money either. And the truth is that yesterday's predictions placed her in second but the real results show that she only entered the senbatsu by a matter of seconds.

In other news, Nagi pretty much confirmed that the senbatsu of the 60th single was announced and she's out. It will be announced soon.

I'm not denying that. She was in second place as far as I remember. I just don't buy the idea that she would win so easily. I mean, she couldn't even beat Ayane before. There's a limit to her endless budget.

EDIT: And let me add some numbers.

The eitos were by far the worst performers of the last day, especially the ones at the top. So they either took it easy or helped Onishi get to 8th by a small margin, which wouldn't happen if she hadn't been infected.

Wow, Eito members had really became unbreakable barriers, hadn't them?
I'm sad that my dearests Seichan and Mahopyon didn't make it, but I'm not surprised with Maho at all. At least my two girls are Senbatsu.

But what makes me sadder the most is Harupyon. I mean, she was really close, even top 3 on some previous rankings...but she didn't make it, even though she did her best.
Yet congrats Saho, Zunchan, Toppachan and Ayanan!!! So glad that they made it as non-senbatsu girls. Even though Saho was expected because she is really popular among fans and does great on hs. Specially happy for Zunchan and Toppachan, as they're new gen girls.

Where did she say it? I've seen some people say that there was a rumor about it on Twitter, but I didn't find a proper source
