That’s if they allow people who have announced to graduate participate. Since this is a 48G competition I’d think not but who knows.

It is her last HS. It doesn't mean she will be active in AKB outside of doing HS until May. Of course since she extended her HS until May there might be an opportunity for her to actually extend her AKB activity until her last HS but I have a feeling that she already have something in mind for next year.
Also I think it would be better to limit the participating member to someone that haven't announced graduation otherwise it would be kinda not beneficial for 48G to have their next utahime graduating soon especially if you watch the announcement stream where they mention about Sayanee graduated which is probably the catalyst for them creating to this competition.

Actually if you watched the whole stream, he wanted Naachan to participate. All 48G members can participate so even Yukirin can participate.

Naaa, it's only me speculating, I hope you didn't take it too seriously.
There are some issues IMO that prevent oversea groups from participating. Mostly a question of cost and logistic or a question of little interest from the japanese fanbase / public.
I also checked the venue, and it is veeeeery small (1300 ~ 1350 seats), low income from the tickets then.

But if the prize is just a trophy, what a mess.

At least throw the winner the main b-side in the next single or something, even if it's as a solo or as the center of a vocal-focused song.

1300 seats isn't veeeeeery small, it's a decent sized theater. The more important factor is that it is owned by TBS, which is the station broadcasting (and presumably) sponsoring the event.

Also I'd imagine that the acoustics of a purpose built theater will be better than a big box like the Makuhari Messe or something.

I don't see the point in Yukirin competing. She's already got a solo career, what good would it be to see her probably beaten by some younger member?

She's got a chance. Since she sorted her dodgy breathing technique a couple of years ago she's improved a heck of a lot.

I also kind of would like to see what a belter like Yahagi can do in this sort of competition. She's probably not gotten any instruction in proper technique but she does have raw power.

Geez you're really glass half empty today! They've obviously holding back some of the details of this for the drama :awesome:

The problem is we still have no idea when her “graduation” is. She might still be doing handshakes but she can have her graduation stage before her last HS. For all we know her graduation stage might be in January/February

Yeah, with the 15-20 member in the Finals thing, at least a B-side/unit should be plausible I think. (With MV too please management).

However, I find it quite interesting that the management only give the girls a few weeks in advance to practice for the Pre-lim, but from then more than a month to practice for the Finals. Hopefully all of the finalists would be at amazing caliber by then.

    IT'S MONDAY AFTER HOLIDAYS

Yeah, I imagine they're holding back some stuff... because they probably don't know what they're gonna give the winner lol

But if it's just gonna be another Sports Festival with nothing at stake, they can keep it.

Geez. Look who grew up on the wrong side of having stuff handed to them for participating. There are plenty of reasons to enter into a competition with your so-called "nothing" at stake. First, it's a showcase of talent that was obviously missing from the first weeks at the PD48 dorm and they need to find a way to fix that. Second, and irrelevant, sports festivals are fun and Kpop has an annual tradition of doing that for NOTHING at stake. Back to this competition -- personal pride for the girls. FUN. A challenge. A myriad other reasons that seem lost on kids who get trophies for learning to write their name. -_-

    You're just toxic, man.
