If they don't bring Zaki to Hong Kong I riot. The very perfect opportunity for her to use her Mandarin skill.

True dat. Leaving out the one Nogi member who has the language skill to make a connection with the local populous. Why?

If I was into conspiracy theories, I would think that they don't want to overshadow the senbatsu members... sad.

Yeah, it's such a waste of her talent. Well, overseas fans of Nogizaka are expected to know a degree of Japanese, so maybe they will just depend on that possibility or otherwise rely on the translator. But idk, it's still a waste. Probably they'll use Matsumura to be the "Mandarin" language proxy (of course she'll say it in a cutesy way and the Chinese will truly buy it). I am not a native Mandarin speaker, though I am learning the language. From what I observed, Zaki's pronunciation and tones are much more natural and understandable than Matsumura does.

Dang. I should've went to the Singapore show. It looks like it would've been easier to get VIP tickets. Plus they speak English in Singapore well because of the English influence.

Well for Singapore I guess to some people it was a gamble and seeing the management send senbatsu members over, Hong Kong got snapped out (plus it's easier for the Chinese fans to get to Hong Kong even though some of them flew in for the Singapore show) There are a lot of people moaning not getting VIP tickets for Hong Kong cuz of Naachan lol.

I've only been to two idol events in Hong Kong, but from my experience, Hong Kongers care little about Mandarin ability. At an autograph session I attended, one idol spoke sentences in Mandarin to a mild, polite reaction, whereas a few words in broken Cantonese from another got wild applause. (In each case giving the standard, generic pleasantries.) Also, at each event, there was no Mandarin translation provided at all, only Canto.

I might even say English would be more appreciated by locals than Mandarin in most circumstances, at least by the younger generations (<40). I won't get too much into the politics of HK here, but Mandarin is often seen more as pandering to the Mainland and Mainlanders than to Hong Kong itself.

Now if you want to argue that there will be enough Mainlanders coming down who would appreciate her Mandarin skills, it's possible, but it's nowhere near a no-brainer. If local event organizers don't bother with Mandarin, I doubt Japanese management should care either.

^True that. In Hong Kong if you're a local almost everyone understands Cantonese , it's like English in English-speaking countries. As for the rest... Well anyone who has been to Hong Kong will understand lol.

Most of the crowd probably won't bother either.

Yep, save the Mandarin for the mainland or Taiwan. If you want to endear yourself to the populace in HK, make an effort to say a little something in Cantonese. Otherwise, English and Japanese will do.

Right, I was wrong about the Mandarin language use sentiment. Thanks for the clear up.

I still hope one day Zaki's Mandarin skill can come to good use.

On a relevant topic, Nogizaka seems to plan for a show in Korea as well (probably different event). I suppose Sakurai will come in handy when that time comes.

Oh I'm sure it will. Biggest market in the world and one that already has AKB spin offs, so idols won't be a totally new concept. And they'll probably be blown away by Nogi when the time comes. Especially with that ace up the sleeve with the language.

    Nanase we see you! LOL!

Looks to be a good reception.

Why didn’t they attempt international domination sooner?
