Album Coming Flavor 1st mini [Kamifure!] - (2021/06/16)

Coming Flavor will release their 1st mini album "Kamifure!" (カミフレ!) on 21/06/16, under Zest's record label

This is is their 1st CD out of an SKE48 release, and the 1st ever SKE48 unit to have one (right ?)

The covers are an art from manga artist Tanabe Yoichiro, it's inspired by Akutagawa Ryunosuke's "Kumo no ito"
It contain the song 'Ima Sugu Kiss me", originally released in 1990 by LINDBERG

It has a couple of interesting requests to media outlets - firstly it says that Romaji should be used for members' names - and secondly the red text at the bottom says that the name 'SKE48' should not be used in articles whenever possible.

Is this a sub-unit like AKB's not yet, no3b, etc?

 

I mean yes and no, but not necessarily? Yes in the sense that it’s a subunit that is being given independent treatment through an original release. But not yet, no3b, etc, were all subunits composed of members under certain management agencies, meaning that those agencies oversaw the activities of the unit. In this case, Coming Flavor is still under the same agency as SKE so it is not “independently managed” in the same way that those other units were.

 

I imagine they're trying to separate the release from the 48 franchise to see if... the group isn't hurt by the 48 reputation? But then I doubt people would look twice in their direction if they weren't part of it.

Wanting that distinction is a bit odd, but I wonder if the reason isn't that they want to launch them as an actual sub-unit rather than just a unit on singles hereafter. Precedence exists in the empire for that to be the case. No Sleeves having been a unit in A4 before their debut as a sub-unit. Diva's 2 songs on AKB singles where 3 of their core 4 members were at the forefront before their debut and evolution into what they otherwise turned into. In this case it feels like what could've happened with Tentoumuchu had the folks in charge been confident enough to pull the trigger on a debut as an actual sub-unit.

 

Well, good luck to the management with the direction they chose. I do hope they get non-SKE fans to support this group because personally, as a Jurina fan who might transition into becoming just a fan of SKE in general (no oshi), the management's decision turns me off.

 

a subunit music release wow... when was the last time this happened for 48g lol?? super excited for this, time to learn the members haha

 

BNK48 and MNL48 have been releasing music through their subunits VYRA and Baby Blue, but it's been a while since a Japanese group has released anything. (I do really recommend especially Baby Blue's music, since it's largely in English, if language barrier is an issue for you. I also really enjoyed VYRA's debut ('LYRA' still as LYRA before they changed names), but it is in Thai.)

In terms of JPN48, the last sub-unit release was French Kiss's good bye / best album on October 14th, 2015. (correct me if I'm wrong)

 

Slightly later than that was the only single release by SKE's sub-unit Love Crescendo 'Koppu no Naka no Komorebi' on November 25th, 2015:

After that the sub-unit only appeared on B-sides of SKE's singles. IMO it's a shame it didn't continue, as well as Jurina it had my top 3 SKE members at the time (Ryoha, Yunana and Lala) and 'Koppu no Naka no Komorebi' is one of my top favourite A-sides (and MVs) in JPN48 let alone SKE. I thought of them but believed they were earlier than that. Sadly, it's still the same year with only roughly a month difference

 

oh yeah i've been aware of vyra and baby blue - i still have yet to check out the former, but i've loved all of baby blue's singles so far. it's cool to see a japanese 48g subunit have their own release though after so long, and i'm not surprised that it's an ske subunit since ske's been the most ambitious (is that the word??) of the japanese 48 groups lately

 

I think they might be at the top with NMB. They've, after all, reshuffled their group entirely and I think the girls have been working very hard.

I really enjoyed SKE48's latest releases, and I liked the units they've had for them as well. Hopefully Kamifure will sound good ^^
