Another death of AKB48 article/opinion piece. Is AKB48, whose members' graduations stand out, "オワコン (past its prime)"? AKB reached its peak 10 years ago when Yuki Kashiwagi , Rino Sashihara , Haruka Shimazaki, etc. were active , led by members representing the group such as Atsuko Maeda and Yuko Oshima , but in recent years the graduation of members has stood out. When Sashihara, who won the top four times in the general election, graduated from HKT48 in April 2019, there were no signboard members. In September 2019, 17-year-old Moeka Yahagi was selected as a next-generation ace candidate at the center, but one month later she announced her graduation. The event that discouraged the fans, which was reported on AKB's official blog that Ryu Futani and others ended their activities by canceling the agreement due to the intention to decline the activity in September last year, continues. 14-year-old Momoka Hasegawa, who was selected as the center of "Flying Get" on the NTV music program "Premium Music 2021" in March this year, announced "End of activity" on AKB's official website just a few days later. "If it is so unstable, the survival of the group is in jeopardy. The reasons for the members' graduation and the end of the activity have not been announced, but it is said that it is caused by suspicion of underage drinking, love scandal, etc. It is a fact that there are far more members who are doing their best. It is said that there are no hit songs, no stars, etc., but if you trace the origin, it has been two years since the fans left the AKB group at once. I think the previous NGT incident was a major cause. ”(Sports newspaper entertainment reporter) Actually, even on SNS and the Internet, "It's a completely NGT case. I also supported the whole group for a long time, but I was disgusted with the operation that defended the perpetrator side, so I did not make a wrong decision there I couldn't have done this if all the [ wicked] members were dismissed. I think many people quit their fans after that, especially the fans who shouldn't have lost. After that, sales should have dropped considerably. " "Every group has members who cause scandals. The problem is the management response. I liked AKB, but it suddenly cooled down in the NGT incident. This time as well, I haven't changed since I saw the operation of Yuka Suzuki without any disposition. I'm sorry for the members who are doing their best. " Will AKB continue to decline as it is? When people say that Sakura has nothing left to achieve in 48G, actually it's the opposite, she now gets to carry a mission impossible which is to make AKB relevant again.
I have no idea, to be honest, why so many people pin their hopes on one individual when we have a group with 100+ active members, some of which are doing just fine by working hard to get to the top of their game. I also don't really get it why people seem to believe AKB will ever reach the same level of popularity of 10 years back again, no matter who the members are, they will never be 'new' again, the concept will not be 'new' again, and changing the concept radically means they will not be AKB48 anymore. Staying (slightly) relevant is an achievement enough Ow, and I really don't see why you would pin your hopes on a member who basically left the group to pursue a career in Korea (disclaimer, I don't think Sakura has the thing I'm looking for in an AKB member anyway, if AKB becomes a Sakura vehicle then ... meh. btw, that applies to every time AKB decided to overpush someone, every time AKB only becomes about 1 person my interest wanes accordingly) if Sakura returns now, it will always look like AKB was the safe fallback option to her, I can't recall hearing her declare that she for sure would return to AKB (like any pro-football player will do when they leave a club, and we all know how that plays out usually)
All the May concerts will be streamed on 17LIVE, which I believe means that they will be free to watch from around the world
