Didn't know if it was planned from the start or it's just something winged up by both parties, but AKB48 is being appointed as "Ambassador for Wanting to Eat Asian Pear" by the Tottori Prefecture because of the "Nothing Nothing Nothing" part of the new song can be heard as "Nashi Nashi Nashi" (= Asian Pear). There were already several development on Twitter, including all AKB48 members apparently getting a shipment of Asian Pear from Tottori Pref. But they are now making this official. The appointment ceremony will be held on Sep 22 in Tokyo, with Oguri Yui and Yamauchi Mizuki attending.

A pair of videos in which Erii, Mai, Kanabun and Ayu go on a cruise in Tokyo Bay to discover 'kawaii' as ambassadors for the Japanese-Chinese collaboration anime "LALALACOCO":

I hope the fan chant comes back. With reduced crowd size, distancing, masking, sanitizing, vaccinating they could allow a fan call.

I figure the big concern is the enclosed space. But if members, audience, and staff all vaccinated then perhaps they could bring some audience participation back. With all the other measures still in place.

Please can we get a proper yahoou sahou!?

    2018-08-16 or 2018-08-23 episode.
Various groups of various music genres delivered their own rendition of Give me Five.
Some of the greatest Bingo! episodes IMO.

Tbh, I'd really, really be uncomfortable with fan chant right now (even though I am fully vaccinated; I live in Japan). AKB Theater is very, very small and has really, really bad ventilation. Even with social distance measure we were only like <5cm apart.

I think maybe if it were allowed to have your phone out, it might be interesting to have a recording of yourself do the fan chant. Alternatively, if they ever bothered to make any improvements to the theatre, I'd love to see them introduce buttons for fans to push that play reactions. Like one button for "ehh", one for clapping and cheering etc. The more people push the buttons, the louder the reactions.

The button idea sounds really cute! And a good alternative during these times. AKB performances just aren’t the same without fan reactions—it reminds me of when Mayu announced her graduation but the fans weren’t there to react.

For certain occasions (e.g. birthday stages) they've had fans send in recorded chants. I didn't pay attention to how they played them during the performance though.

the individualized chant might be difficult to implement since it can be very disastrous if the fans made a mistake and play different things .. it could make the situation awkward.. and if i'm not wrong the theatre has strict rules against using mobile phone during performance?

but the button idea is genius! i bet many TV stations have recording of 'fake' audience reactions. they could borrow from tv stations or maybe create it once and then use it for eternity! sounds like a safe investment for me. and tbh, reactions would help to motivate the performing idols. because gosh, performing in a dead, quiet atmosphere is very dreadful (at least that's how imagine it to be)

Yeah but I don't see any of that happening any time soon. If you compare AKB's theatre to that of sister groups, it's mediocre at best... they haven't really made any changes since 2005. The sister groups have much more improved systems.

If I'm not wrong, the sister groups (along with Team 8) have a larger funding from the respective local governments. That's why it's a big deal when sponsors withdrew due to NGT cases. with more funding, u can do more.

Also, I do think the relatively old (and confined) spaces within the akb theatre kinda limits with what they can do.

Ofc it doesn't change the fact the management is still kinda lazy overall.
