[GENERAL] The Hinatazaka46 thread

Hinatazaka has some great units, so if it's up to me, I'd like them to follow the lead of STU instead of Nogi; to focus most of their activities on the whole group, then most of the remaining on the units, and the senbatsu becomes only a question of who is in the A-side for each single.

But of course the Nogi system has its merits. Like. One thing we often forget because we're not there in Japan is that the Unders perform live a lot more often than the senbatsu.

 

I think Hinatazaka will work best if they keep the team around this size. Large enough to have big and intricate dance choreo, as well as have a party-like atmosphere, but also small enough to keep the group tight and cohesive. And then, as members graduate out, only draft a new gen to replenish back up to ~20 members.

I think a senbatsu system only really works if it's implemented from the start. Nogi began with a Senbatsu/Unders division, and then put a lot of effort into promoting the Unders as a competent group on their own like @Lalo Martins says. Keya tried to introduce an Unders system twice, and both times have flopped dramatically. Their final single before rebranding is an all-members song, and it makes them look stronger for it. If senbatsu is introduced midway through, it only creates unnecessary drama. If it's there from the beginning, then it's merely part of the package that fans buy into and thus expected. Better for Hinata to continue as they are and show group dynamism by rotating out front row and centre, which is hopefully what they'll keep doing after Azato Kawaii.

As an aside, I actually think that if Keya is going to continue with member-divide system, they need to make it into two equal teams, rather than Senbatsu/Unders. It would take some more effort to produce songs for essentially two senbatsu-level groups, but I think Keya can afford it and afford to be experimental.

In addition to that, I feel like the senbatsu system is largely a hold-over from the AKB-dominated era, which Nogi comes from, and its appeal was bolstered by idea of intramural competition and the prestige of the SSK. Now that the SSK has been shutdown, I also feel like the idea of predicating a group on senbatsu selection has also lost its appeal. I think fans are more than happy to have group stability and consistency over manufactured conflict, especially now that the whole world is out of whack.
