^ Yes! San ji no oyatsu wa Mariyannu. Three PM snacks are Mariyannu. XDD

(I was wrong. I didn't pay enough attention to the Rikaichan entry for "oyatsu" when I first looked up her catchphrase, but it actually means an afternoon snack around 3pm or so, hence "sanji no oyatsu" being a term. Fml. I assumed 3ji meant 3am because Japan uses the 24 hour clock, except sometimes they don't use the 24 hour clock? JAPANESE JUST LIKES TO SCREW WITH ME. Buhhhh.)

    Whatever. 3時のおやつはまりやんぬ!

    ^And the sense?. ^^
I mean, these catchphrases all have some sense or wordplay to make them work in japanese that it is lost in the translation... but nothing that can't be explained. ^^
I remember the "Green tea, Barley tea, Oolong tea, but also ... Aki-cha!" (where the cha was tea) =P
or the "Go ni Nacchan!" ^^'

so, the Mariyannu's one, what's the base?

^ I don't know if there is one. I assumed it was just an inside joke. But if there's some word that sounds like "Mariyannu" that I don't know about, do enlighten me, anyone!

Oh, is that where her catchphrase comes from? I've been trying to figure that out since I first heard it but I couldn't come up with anything, haha. Thanks for the video :D

Mariyannu's catchphrase is "sanji no oyatsu wa Mariyannu!" meaning "snacks at 3:00 is Mariyannu!"
One of the lines in the video up there ^ is "sanji no oyatsu wa Bunmeido". It's a commercial for Bunmeido, so telling everyone that Bunmeido is good for afternoon snacks? And I guess that's where Mariyannu got the catchphrase? XD

Ahhhhh.... I was looking like crazy something that sounded like "Mariyannu" in the video and I couldn't...

well... I can't listen japanese very well... I mean, when I see B5, Mariya's line to me is like:

"San yi no oyas zu wa, mariyan nu" =P

And in the commercial video, I only listen to the Chipmunks... understanding zero. =P

LOL THE VIDEO. Is that like, well-known or something? For her to base her catchphrase on it? XD Even her dance move in Oshi seems to come from that. Bless your soul, Mariyannu, you're sillier than I thought. <3 (Also, you're definitely good for an afternoon snack.)

    Thanks, Youko. XD

Ah, that was the only thing *I* noticed familiar in the video and mariyannu, that sort of "can can" dance. =P

    wait guys... huwe~~~~~yt!

the link i posted is a result of googling the catch phrase and reading about 5-6 fan blogs and the jap wiki for about 20 minutes. though there's a good chance that that is the real reason why she chose that phrase, i'm am not sure at all if that is really the case.

and btw, catchphrases do not really have to have some hidden meaning or anything. some have and some don't. if it sticks in people's minds after hearing it once or twice then it definitely does the job.

^ Well, it makes sense. If nothing else, the matching dancing convinces me.

Catchphrases can be kind of baffling at first if they're plays on words or references. I totally blinked at Nacchan's the first time I saw it.
