As with every Wasamin release, this has me excited :) anything that has her voice to it is gold.

A slightly odd title to me but hopefully someone can explain its relevance.
And the lyrics... wow. When has he been involved with her song construction before?

As a slight aside, she'll be performing in the UK in a just over a week; would that be too soon to expect a live performance of the song?

Wasamin actually explained it in her blog post, which is linked in the OP...

    http://www.deepkyoto.com/saba-kaido-the-old-mackerel-highway/

In short, it is a famous road that runs from Fukui and the Port of Obama to Kyoto, where Saba fisherman would make overnight trips to deliver fish.

AkiP has always written the lyrics to her A-sides. However, this is the first single she has released post-graduation, so we weren't sure if that tradition would continue. We also don't know if the tradition of having an AKB song as a B-side will continue. I guess we will find out soon enough.

My guess is that it is too soon. Her album is due to be released that week, so I am guessing you will get selections from that. And I think her fans here in Japan would be disappointed if she debuted the song overseas. That said, never say never.

@Cristafari - thank you so much for the explanations.

I was completely unaware that AkiP had written the lyrics to her previous A-sides, but I am glad the tradition continues. Her versions of AKB songs are also fantastic so I would also hope that tradition continues.

I fully expect some album promotion at the event next week, which will be really wonderful to see. :)

According to this article, the coupling songs are as follows...

Futarisake (originally recorded in 1980 by Kawanaka Miyuki)

if the video does not show watch the video here

Ishikari Banka (originally recorded in 1975 by Kitahara Mirei)

if the video does not show watch the video here

...and an acoustic version of Nagoriyuki, which is a song she recorded for request covers. Wasamin will be playing the guitar on this track.

BTW, these are all fairly serious songs. I'm kinda hoping the A-side will be a more whimsical track. Based on the title though, probably not.

And it looks like no AKB cover B-side. So that tradition has ended, at least for now. Although I can see the logic in that.

Kinda like the two songs that were picked as b-sides. Looking forward to hear Wasamin's versions! :^O^:

Btw I just noticed the date. Is there a certain reason why the single is release on a Tuesday instead of Wednesday?

That's a good question. I hadn't noticed that before you said it. I am not sure. Perhaps Japan is changing the release schedule beginning next year? I mean after all, you can furage this stuff on Tuesday anyway. So why not make Tuesday the actual release date?

I know, and that means Wasamin is going to remain busy for the foreseeable future. Not to mention her fans.

In the last week she performed in Mie Prefecture, Nagoya, then did NHK Live in Tokyo on Tuesday. Wednesday was her monthly Challenge Campaign in Chiba (where she announced the single) Thursday she went to Fukui to record the PV for the single. Friday she did Showroom. Tonight she was at Ninja Fes in Tokyo, and tomorrow she has two mini-lives in Chiba.

    忙しいです

Hmm, could be that way but I'm not sure cause another Japanese band I like announced their album for the 11th.
Makes me wonder why Wasamin releases on a Tuesday. Or that other band didn't get the message that the schedule will be changed.
But who knows? In the end it doesn't matter because of flying get like you mentioned.
    Anyways, thanks for the reply!

She filmed the MV already? In Fukui? Wow I just can't wait for it. After I'm sad there's no new original song in her album she announced a single! She's super busy for her road to be Enka Utahime, good luck!

As usual top-notch visuals for the PV. And even though I prefer her more dramatic songs (Mujin Eki, Tomonoura Bojou...) I think I'm gonna like this one.

Wasamin really only gets prettier as the years pass lol~~ The song isn't for me atm (I prefer her lower pitch in general).

    Oricon Weekly Results:

    Pop Singles Chart: 10th
    Enka Singles Chart: 1st :1st:
Total Sales: 10,167 (I do not have a verifiable source for that number, but it is what is circulating by fans on Mixi)

Considering this is the first single Wasamin has released post-AKB, this is a very nice result. According to Wasamin's manager, Tokuma is very happy.

(And of course I am very happy that I helped Wasamin achieve that result. I won't say how many, but it is the largest amount of copies I have purchased for ANY single, ever)

^^ Only the first 20 were counted, right? :)

Well, no. Since I bought copies at a lot of different shops, and never that many in any particular shop. The most I purchased in any shop was 10. In any case, I think there are probably many exceptions to that "only the first 20 count" rule. For example, I know a lot of fans who purchased more than 20 at some shops, but these are small individual stores. So I highly doubt the clerks at those stores actually account for who bought how many. At the end of the day they tally how many copies were sold, and that's it. Another example, in some cases people buy more than 20 at a shop, but not at the same time. They will buy 10, and then when they run out of handshake tickets they will go buy 10 more, and so on... So again, I doubt the clerks are keeping track like that. Like "that guy bought 10 copies 4 times, so only 20 count"
