HEART*IZ sold a lot better than COLOR*IZ, though.

COLOR*IZ is currently at 159,489 sales (latest state as of July 24th).
HEART*IZ is at 190,786 sales. It surpassed COLOR*IZ's entire sales in its third week.

Begs the question, what's your measure of 'popularity'?

    sales?
    twitter/IG followers?
    number of posts in Stage48?
whether your mum and grandmum know their name?

For me it's sales but also a consistency in sales; HEART*IZ sold better than COLOR*IZ, which is a good sign but I guess we'll have to wait for more comebacks to see whether they can keep it up. And Buenos Aires had similar first-day sales to Suki to Iwasetai (193k and 192k respectively). TWICE is, without a doubt, the best-selling K-Pop girl group, and they've broken multiple of TWICE's records. To think that a rookie group like IZ*ONE can keep up with groups by the Big Three is, to me, a sign of success and popularity.

Yup, popularity consists lot of things including few things you've mentioned @theobserver [hehe], since this is industry, biggest and easiest part to determine it is from sales, like what @bonjourmarlene try to explains, it's been said and explained by papa jyp himself , he's an artist also businessman, a well known key players in music industry nowadays especially in korea and japan, so, stupid people like us can learn and knew something from him

if the video does not show watch the video here
you should skip to Q&A session for those topics at 19:00 on the video, BUT, please don't compare artist popularity using sales between kpop and jpop, there is difference between the culture in their industry methods, know it first, that is why, what izone achieved in sales considered as great in industry, as a kpop gg, that's sales is higher, only few of kpop gg currently can reach 100k sales for one single albums atm

also, it's important to put things in context: what IZ*ONE has accomplished in less than a year is incredible. Most Kpop groups won't even come close to achieving in several years what IZ*ONE have achieved in 9 months. Can they do better? Sure, but a lot of groups can do better as well if you want to assess everyone.

I don't know just how much popular is IZONE in Japan, I just know that Sakura herself said that she really enjoyed being at Tokyo Girls Collection for the first time. And she appeared there not as an AKB's member, not as an HKT's member, but IZONE's Miyawaki Sakura.

I mean IZ*ONE is actually selling well. TWICE has introduced a wave of increased Girl Group album sales so now where there used to be only one Girl Group that could hit 200,000 for an album we now have 3. Twice, IZ*ONE, and BP. Not to mention TWICE's re-ignition of the K-Pop groups in Japan is what pushed the PD48 series to become a thing. Because of those two factors not to mention, debuting from a Produce show is equivalent from debuting from a Big 3 Company, IZ*ONE has been able to garner the success they have now. It's amazing. They sell well in both Japan and Korea. Their fandom is strong. Bigger than every other K-GG fandom except Twice and BP.

Now as for general public popularity in Japan. IZ*ONE has been rising. They don't have as much yet compared to peak KARA, SNSD, AKB, or current TWICE for example. But they are way ahead of every other Korean GG For sure. We might have to just wait and see how they do. In Korea, even though they are arguably #2 in album sales for girl groups, in terms of recognition they are around 6th or 7th place. Which isn't bad. Most GG's would kill for the success that IZ*ONE has had. We can't say they peaked at debut when they've only had one comeback. We need to wait and see what the next two comebacks are looking like.

Even if they never achieve great general public popularity in Japan or Korea, their fandom power is breathtaking. They could easily do large arena's or possibly even a dome or two in Japan. They could do smaller arenas around some parts in Asia, and do halls everywhere else. Their fandom is powerful. Looking at current projections they might end up being literally the 5th best selling Korean GG by their disbandment. An amazing feat and depending on how the album landscape will be looking in the next 5 years they may either keep that spot for a really long time or they will atleast be in the top 10 for a really long time.

    Some information:
    • Cost: 2500 yen (each of the lives)
    • There's 6 cams -4 are close-ups
    • Since it's Docomo service, it's only available in Japan... which means we hope our Taiwanese friend will do live-streaming this.
    • (alternative way is using VPN -but don't know if it's 100% success)

Anyway, bless Sasshi and Chiyori (they celebrated Shige's birthday btw)

    As for IZ*ONE remember Z.

    • Main Story Mode: There's a main story, that you can play through. You need to level up in order to unlock the story. The basic idea is that you and the girls went to the same high school and you promised each other to graduate together while you managed them as a girl group. However, you left school and on the day of graduating from your school (April 2021), you get hit by a car and find yourself back in 2019. You're given the chance of rectifying your mistake and keeping your promise.
    • Individual Story Mode: Every girl has a few chapters. You need to level up the individual girls' cards in order to gain "trustworthiness", which unlocks the different chapters.
    • Male and Female Mode (Main and Individual Story Mode): Different stories depending on whether you play as male or female. By clicking Home > Option, you can change your gender at any time (and also change the language of the text and their voice acting between Japanese and Korean).
    • Lesson: There are three girls that are fixed as partners and you can pick a set of 5 girls to practice with them. Try to match their energy (strawberry, mint or citrus) to your own cards. The better synergy they have, the quicker your "COLOR" fills up. Once the bar is filled up, you have a few rounds of "Colourful Mode", which means that whatever the girls are practising actually works instead of them getting tangled up or dropping things. In order to achieve 100% on Colourful Mode, you need to play the lesson stage a few times so that all three fixed partners have interacted with every girl (e.g. if you have Yena, Hitomi and Wonyoung as fixed partners, every one of the other 12 girls needs to be paired with each of them during Colourful Mode). There are also 3 stars to obtain during each lesson (usually "Clear once", "Reach colourful mode" and "use [name] card once"). You also collect gems (red, green and yellow to match strawberry, mint and citrus) you use to level up the cards you're using. If you get a Yena partner and you use a Yena card, you will see her perform a little something on stage rather than practice (this is an example, it works like this with every girl). One lesson costs 7 LP.
    • Work (Oshigoto): You start out with 5 cards, but as you level up you are allowed to put more cards in your team (up to 12). There is a main star, two MCs, two commentators, a comedian and the rest I don't know as I haven't unlocked more. The girl that is put in the central position of your 5 cards is the determiner of how high your score is, so you want to pick someone with a high level. Then you get an appeal chance, where you are given five cards from your chosen cards. They each have symbols. If you pick the same card three times, you get a Straight, if you pick the same symbol three times you get a Flush (worth less than a Straight) and if you pick the same card with the same symbol three times you get a Straight Flush (worth most but I've never had that luck). You level up your own level by doing this. Depending on which cards you use to create combos for Straight, Flush or Straight Flush, you level up your trustworthiness with them (needed for individual story mode). You also get candies, which are used to level up cards.
    • Other things worth mentioning:
      • You can currently get two 3* and two 2* guaranteed gacha cards as a reward for the number of people who pre-registered. You can pick which cards you want
      • For 150 gems, you can get Chaewon's birthday dress (a little outfit for her to wear during Lessons). By doing the beginner missions, you get 500 gems so it's easily achievable. The event is on until 2nd August JST/KST. I bought her dress and because of daily missions and that, I currently have 625 gems so there's no rush.

If there are any questions, let me know~
