From my experiences it's absolutely true.
Osakans tend to be far less shallow than most city folk. They probably have the lowest amount of makeup-per-girl in Japan. They dress far less revealingly, are less strict about diets, and they're less obsessed with popular, high brow entertainment than other cities.

Nogi and Keya don't wear too much make up (it seems), and their outfit is less revealing. Would they fit the taste of the Osakans? ;)

I don't know. I lived in Osaka and I felt that the women caked on their makeup, especially compared to surrounding cities like Nara, Kyoto, and Kobe. I also lived in Tokyo, and I did not see any real difference in terms of diet and consumption of popular entertainment. I went as far west as Fukuoka and thought people were "less shallow" than Osaka, but I wasn't there long enough to really know too well. Still, I felt that Osaka women were definitely in the most "glam" and most "high maintenance" seeming out of anywhere I lived/visited.

SekaAi is still in top 3 on Music Station TV show singles chart Friday evening. Amazing. Apparently, singles don't often continue into second week. Show plays clip of performance, and clip of Hirate's scream, which it says has been a topic of interest this week. This week's #1 is SKE. Aki-P, lol. I even see a bit of K46 choreo in their clip. Tweet containing music station clip.

I agree with this. I lived in Osaka and Kyoto (work) and Tokyo (study). I didn't see much of a difference in the girls in Osaka and Tokyo with regards to makeup or liking of pop culture or diet at all. Kyoto felt a lot more classy than both places. To me Osaka girls wore more makeup than Tokyo girls on average but in two cities of over ~10 million anyway, it's impossible to make generalizations.

As for people who like idols, they're very few and far between wherever you are.

And I'm glad they're releasing it as a "special version" with all the songs, unlike SaiMajo, that is released only as Type A (IIRC), at least in my local iTunes store.

As someone in an LDR with a kansai girl (meeting next year), I would hope that you are right.

I can say that my girl works in eyelashes and hair-dying industry
Yet she doesn't overdo the makeup (seen her with and without)
She is incredibly friendly, is more interested in western things than Japanese things (but keeps up her national traditions)
She never dresses skimpily, and she is always eating haha
Her friends are otaku for AKB48, NMB48 etc, but she is more interested in Ed Sheeran!

    - Shii-chan (Satou Shiori) is steadily climbing up!
    - No additional slot.

Uemura, Akanen, and Habu-sama's popularity seems increasing in Kyoto (maybe Yukata episode effect ?), especially Habu-sama (who also got 1 slot sold for Kyoto HS event last round). While Satoshi fan base seems still to be in near-Tokyo area, apparently her popularity also increased in Kyoto. :D

And with this, Uemu-Akanen-Meijin are no longer able to sold out their slot, following Suzumon who had done so in 8th.
Congratulation for them and their fans last spurt of application.

It's just great to see those circles filled in for Miyu, Rina, Akanen and Habu.

And as for the Hiraganas, I just shake my head at the folks in Kyoto. Manafi (the cute singer) and Memi-tan (the cute centre) together and not sold out? (Over in Memi's thread, I link to a subbed version of part of her last Showroom session, if anyone's interested.) Sarina is a very attractive personality who has not sold out any slot yet. Katou Shiho, however, may be beginning to enter people's consciousness, just as her photos are beginning to show how pretty she can be. And people (me included) seem to be realizing just how beautiful Sasaki Kumi is, and what a lovely warm, capable person she is. The bubbly Takamoto has sold out one session. As has Sasaki Mirei, who should have some fans built in from her time in Choco MilQ.

However, everyone loves Kyonko (Saitou Kyouko). She is the Zuumin of this group in more ways than one. I admire her complete effort and enjoy her personality and her smile. And I expect to like her trained singing voice, when I get to hear more of it.

On Music Station, they had pro choreographers choose the top 25 best-choreographed MVs ever. SaiMajo was #8. I wish they had been able to consider KataMira.

Comments by the selectors: "Designed to make the centre shine." "Represented the lack of individuality in modern society with a doll army." "A goddess of freedom leading the people." "Like Moses delivering the Ten Commandments."

This should probably be in the SaiMajo thread, but I wanted everyone to see it.

Individuality.... to be honest, after being a fan for nearly 4 years, i can tell it is sadly one of the core reason the 48group lived another day. We were lucky to have very strong individuals, and our worries always have been to wait for other individuals to "replace" old popular members, with their own strength and character. 48group had some good signs of hope, with members like Mukaichi Mion, Takahashi Juri, Okada Nana reaching senbatsu. It's harsh but we need individuals who can take on the like of Sasshi, Yukirin or Mayuyu to survive. ( Or to get back the status of national idol)

I say unfortunately because relying on only individuals put so much pressure on them, and the other girls feels left away. It's not a balanced situation, it's not sane. But on the other hand, you can't force people to like members equally. Girls who are more skilled in appealing themselves in variety show, having better dancing and singing, or just be cute, will inevitably attract a lot of fans ( and vote).

All that to say that I DO agree modern society lack of individuality and individuality is something rare and necessary. I do think the way they push Yurina as an ultimate center, is being the most logical to put Keyaki above the rest of what it is made in the idol industry. I know it's ironic to praise individuality when the 48 family is the biggest band in the world. An unconvenient truth is to say that large number actually enhance management favored member. The mass makes them stand out more.

I think what can be praised more than individuality is identity. And this is something that will come up with all Keyaki. We associate (most of the time true) idols with candid, light hearted songs about romance or cutesy. Most people think of idols as burriko, outplaced from harsh society reality. Well Keyaki is not about that. Lyrics are more dense, the dance more though and precise. They are "serious" and "cool". I do think Keyaki has an edge to make people say " idol is not that bad after all".

Bland B-sides from AKB group release, i had many. So when Keyaki brought something different. I got hooked. Even though they only debuted they showed so much "identity" i was unconsciously seeking. Why not Nogizaka? They are also different and cool after all. To that i would say that Keyaki is a group that i follow from the start. It's easier to catch everything going on.

Keyaki will not replace other group as my favourite, because i think of Keyaki as a complement. Their style are so different, so i can appreciate both without saying which one is better. Maybe that's why there's Nogizaka fans and not 48group fan? Now i understand.

    @gocchisama
Hearing your word remind me of another inconvenient truth, as individuality in modern society is considered rare and necessary, we unconsciously compare that individuality whenever chance arise. Because that's how rare it is.

In Idol world, we're accustomed with term like " A one in xx years Idol", "Absolute center", "(insert a trait here) Queen", and such. The similarities? The emphasizes on one, not group, while each of one form the pillar of the group. This is fine when such group only has one queen on those categories.
But how if there's two or more? 2 fisher queen, 2 absolute center, 2 variety queen? No, one will predate others. There can be only one.
As with the others, "2nd winner is the 1st loser". Either they become bland and lost, or find another individuality to adopt.

Maybe this is why 1st gen is always the strongest. They are the pioneer of the group individuality, while the subsequent gen either has to surpass it, or find their own individuality. And it's no easy task.

Sorry for reviving one old kind of discussion.
