Great sales , congrats to nao. Her 1st photobook sold 122,000 copies in the 1st week. The highest sales for a photobook in the 1st week this year and the 5th highest weekly sales for females photobooks in the history of the oricon ranking.

Ah, I'm very fortunate & happy to finally getting Kosakana's PB in my recent book orders. Yay!



Quick impressions: I think it's a good one. I'm very, very delighted that she's getting her own photobook. Though personally, I feel...you know, like this is just a 1st chapter of an epic movie franchise. Meaning to say, I'm hoping for more PBs of her in the future. With the news that it's selling well, maybe that will happen sometime down the road. Who knows. Just my personal thoughts.

Sidenote: I would also like to hopelessly once more, hoping for a Katoshi PB. Yeah, yeah, I know I've mentioned this...perhaps a bit too often in the past. I think for Hinata thus far, there's Kosakana PB, Kyoko's, the group PB, and Miho's (during Hiragana era, IIRC).

Any news of other Hinata members getting a PB in the future? I wonder...

To bring back to full circle, is Kosaka still in hiatus? I heard something about her taking a break recently...hopefully she's resting well.

Unfortunately no news at the moment for the next PB.

It may be possible to tell by paying attention to the member's eating habits however. It may be a coincidence or I may be suffering from confirmation bias, but I have two examples of this.

1. During the 3-minute relay cooking challenge in Hiragana Oshi, during Miho's turn Kasuga asked what her bento/lunch usually consisted of. I don't recall what it was exactly but it was joked about as being athlete food, not what an idol would normally eat. And then six months later or so, her photobook was announced.
2. During the 2019 seijin kikaku on Hiragana Oshi, Kyoko mentioned a ramen ban being in place. Before she was able to eat ramen whenever she wanted to. And then six months later, Hinata's group PB came out, in which Kyoko had lingerie shots.

So if a member mentions a strict diet it could signal preparation for a PB. But it also could be just wishful thinking

Kosakana is still in hiatus and it is not known when she will return.

 

^Honestly I think you're totally right! We don't often hear about members dieting, at least not in the way that kpop idols talk about having to diet before a song release. When I think about 48g members I really only remember Yukirin talking a lot about dieting. And of course she was someone who did regular gravure modeling.
In Katoshi's case she's already quite thin these days (I think Kimi Shika Katan promotions really wore her out) so I hope she wouldn't diet too hard for a photobook...

Back on the topic of Kosakana, I'm glad they're giving her plenty of time to rest. It's been a full month and she's still on break, which I think is great. I was worried they would push her to return within 1-2 weeks D: She's given so much to the group so far, I think she deserves a long period to recover. She's still so young too!

Yesterday Manamo said she purchased a swimsuit and sent Kosakana an unsolicited photo of herself wearing it Someone said she was asking Kosakana for her opinion, but I didn't see the message myself. Still, I'm glad the members are keeping in touch with Nao during her break (whether Nao asked for it or not, haha).

I just stumbled on this article where most of Kosaka's fans are worried about her not returning from her hiatus. I just think she's on an extended break because she needs the rest. Not every member has endurance or stamina, so it's understandable. Here it is:

Hello, question for @humbal or anyone else who can answer this: what would be the benchmark number of sales and example of a bestselling idol PB?

I don't usually remember this kind of info - however, I'm just intrigued mostly in terms of sales numbers. From what I can gather from above posts, Kosakana PB is doing good numbers, I assume. But what is the best example? Maybe something like Shiraishi Mai's Passport PB? Maybe there are others I'm unaware of? Thanks in advance.

There's some info on each of the sakamichi groups but for a lot of the books the data isn't updated to current date.

Reportedly Kosakana's book has been reprinted multiple times to over 200K copies so the sales should eventually get to that range.
