I've wanted to do a few songs for a while (dareka no tame ni, dakedo..., and a few others) but I just have been too lazy. Now there is a functional website for it, I'd be more inclined to throw in a few songs. I hope you don't mind that I'd do the ones I selfishly choose based on the fact that I like them.

My translation won't be nearly as good as Shin's...because uh...I don't speak Japanese fluently...but I'll give it a shot.

i also want to share a few of my translations.. but.. well.. i usually need weeks to analyze the song that i like and end up with translations that capture the meaning but deviate from the lyrics..

i'll also try to help.. maybe 1 or 2 songs :)

    A few messages:

to quilver - I've done a rough translation of "Koike" already; I just have to clean it up a bit to be sure it retains its original context in Japanese yet able to run smoothly in English. To be honest, "Koike" is by far the most difficult AKB48 song I've attempted translate - both grammatically and contextually. Perhaps this is because "Koike" is a Team A Stage 3 song while I've only translated Team A Stage 1 songs so far - a possible advancement in Mr. Akimoto Yasushi's songwriting ability, or a sign of maturity in the girls' performing ability - after all, "Seifuku ga Jama wo Suru" is also on Team A Stage 3, and that's already a heavy song in and of itself. Anyway, please be patient. I'll eventually finish the translation.

to haruna_hamasaki: I'm already sending you my translations via e-mail. However, if by chance you're not receiving them, you are more than welcome to take my translations from this thread. Just remember to give proper credit where they're due! Thanks! Also, there may be instances where I make a minor, last-minute change between what I e-mail to you and what I post here. You're best bet is to double check between the two version - or you can just ignore the e-mails and wait until I post on this thread if that proves to be more convenient.

Now without further ado, here's the next translation!

“Anata to Christmas Eve” – "Christmas Eve with You”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

    More than any present,
I want to be held in your arms
Into the breast of the navy blue coat
    I always rested my forehead

Even though powder snow wraps around us,
And the street lights turn on,
    I don’t want to separate
    From this place onward,
A second feels longer than eternity

    Thank you for the best
    Christmas Eve in the world
One day, I’ll look back on today
Merry Christmas, and I love you

    Even if nothing is said,
Love is conveyed with this passing time
On this night with that meaning
We’re able to just be together

The powder snow still does not stop
As it falls on the two of us
    In this way, it’s okay
    More than anything else,
    You’re blanket is so warm

Somewhere in the world, you whisper
    A lovers’ promise
    Surely, starting from today, right?
Merry Christmas, and I love you

    Thank you for the best
    Christmas Eve in the world
One day, I’ll look back on today
Merry Christmas, and I love you

Somewhere in the world, you whisper
    A lovers’ promise
    Surely, starting from today, right?
Merry Christmas, and I love you

“Kisu wa dame yo” – “A Kiss is a No-No!”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

    A kiss is a no-no!
Don’t put your arm around my shoulder
While I’m wearing this school uniform
You can’t go on, can you?
    A kiss is a no-no!
    Somebody is watching!
    Amidst this crowd
    Aren’t you brave?

    Give love time
It’s not something you can force
    That is what I believe
Only a light mood will do
It’s all right that it started
    But you’re wrong

    In that manner of speaking,
    Isn’t it burdensome?
    To the point of refusing,
    It’s something just that special

    That is a no-no!
    Don’t rush things ahead
As for that hand you’re stretching out –
    Back off!
    That is a no-no!
    From a girl who knows,
    Crossing the street
With scowling eyes comes with a bad vibe

    I understand that
    There aren’t rules to love
You want to do it without restraint, right?
    It becomes a boring thing
    I’m the same, too
    What’re we waiting for?

    The immoral who can’t explain
They make us wait so long
    For this serious mood

    A kiss is a no-no!
Don’t put your arm around my shoulder
While I’m wearing this school uniform
You can’t go on, can you?
    A kiss is a no-no!
    Somebody is watching
    Amidst this crowd
    Aren’t you brave?

    That is a no-no!
    Don’t rush things ahead
As for the hand you’re stretching out –
    Back off!
    That is a no-no!
From a girl who knows reason,
    Crossing the street
With scowling eyes comes with a bad vibe

Thanks in advance in translation the song "Koike"
and from what you explained, it does seem like a hard one, and any effort in translating it, will be appreciated. Thanks again.

^I don't know if Aiko or Tara would work on that, but I'm not gonna do subbed PV/perf.
That's why I said I had a plan to make "translation discussion thread". (maybe I should say " interpretation thread" instead of "discussion thread".)
Since there are lots of ways to interpret lyrics and I don't want to force my interpretation on others, I made such a decision.
Also, though I can talk and explain about how I interpreted lyrics if it's on the forum, I can't do that on sub because it doesn't have enough room. (I can only have about 10 words on each sentence. It's not enough.)
Maybe someone would ask me, "why don't you simply translate lyrics directly without trying to interpret them?"
My answer is "maybe I can, but i think it's much harder than interpreting lyrics" because there are lots of sentences which doesn't make sense themselves without any explanations of Japanese culture, song's background, and so on.

    That's my answer to

Edit: I didn't realize how of a job I did translating this song until I recently looked over someone else's translation. I made the proper corrections, but since this is a pretty straightforward song, there's really not much room to translate the song in any other way from the other person's save for slight grammatical tweaks. I apologize for any confusion or inconveniences.

    “Hoshi no ondo” – “A star’s warmth” (literally, “A star’s temperature”)
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

    Even now,
    You turn the other way
    Just your casual feeling
    Is an unreachable thing

    Surrounded by everyone
    You show a smiling face
    I truly want to make
    All of that my own
    (I) Want you to love me

    A star’s warmth
    Burns far away
I want you to notice my heart
    A star’s warmth
    Although shining
    In front of my eyes,
You carry on with a normal life

With a telescope for the heavens,
    I send to you
    A modest, small light
I wonder if it’ll be found
    (I) Want you to catch me

    The stars are tears
    Overflowing amidst the night sky
Yet I don’t know how to wipe them away
    The stars are tears
    How sad I am
    One day for sure,
    I want to show you

    A star’s warmth
    Burns far away
I want you to notice my heart
    A star’s warmth
    Although shining
    In front of my eyes,
You carry on with a normal life

    The stars are tears
    Overflowing amidst the night sky
Yet I don’t know how to wipe them away
    The stars are tears
    How sad I am
    One day for sure,
    I want to show you
