Statement to the press from AKS

Today, at the "Heart Ereki" / "Mae shika mukanee" handshake event held at the Iwate Industry Culture & Convention Center in Takizawa City, AKB48 members Kawaei Rina, Iriyama Anna and a staff member were attacked by a fan carrying an edged tool. They sustained injuries to the hands.

The three are currently being taken care of. Their lives are not in danger.

We deeply apologize for the worry and distress this is causing the fans. We will further report on the condition of the two members once it becomes clearer.

Kawaei and Iriyama were part of the same handshake lane. The male culprit was in line when suddenly attacking both members.

It must be very traumatized for them. I mean, they're only idols !!!!
The girls' parents must be worried sick..

Maybe they'll apply a new rule for future HS events

Crap!!! Who are these people who go to Handshake events with this in mind? And in Japan!

Kinda expecting the end of HS events, or a severe tightening of how they work

I really hope they're all right! This totally ruined my day now :(

But TBH, I wonder why there's no security-check. Especially in this fandom where some fans show such a crazy affection to some and hate to others (especially now, short before Sousenkyo), I would expect that something like this happens sooner or later. I hope they'll improve security from now on. But I don't want to blame management, I'm sure it's incredibly difficult to handle events with this size.

It's about time they implement thorough checks on anyone coming anywhere close to the idols. It's outrageous that someone this pathetic would do this to some defenseless girls. They are probably end up terrified of handshakes and such.

Those creepy losers shouldn't be allowed anywhere close to a woman ever again tbh. They are ruining it for the rest of the fans who just want to greet their oshimen and be able to get close to them.

wth... I'm worried sick right now not knowing how serious it is.

What members attended this handshake event?

When Sasshi was threatened I thought what if one of these people are sick enough to try it. :(

I really doubt he would be able to make these tweets after he attacked ricchan and got arrested. Could just be someone on twitter looking for attention.

I'm surprised this kind of incident actually hasn't happened in the past before seeing how there's so many people at handshake events and so one could easily sneak in with a weapon of some kind especially with the amount of antis out there. Still this is messed up. Hopefully their injuries are minor and they're alright. The girls don't deserve something like this happening to them at all. He better get caught for this and hopefully they'll raise security at these events in the future.

Really hope the girls are okay, and the staff member as well.

Team K are performing right now - they all look happy, so I guess nobody has told them. That's gonna be awful to find out after their show, I feel bad just watching them all so happy. And awful for all the girls generally - can you imagine going to a handshake event knowing that last time your friend got stabbed.

Really really hope they will be okay. That is the most important right now. I'm really quite upset. Hope they've caught the sick bastard who did this.

Oh my goodness... That is downright SCARY...

This is ridiculously wrong... Some violent act in an AKB48 handshake event - have we ever had this before?

YIKES... Hopefully the members are OK...

Dammit crazy son of a female dog I flipping hate you I'm seriously in rage how could you hurt someone who doesn't even know you she's innocent you freak

And to think that something like this happened. In Japan. What were those OJS48 doing? Future events will have tighter security I suppose. Hell if they don't tighten the security I don't know whether the girls' parents will allow them to participate
