I went to order the replay yesterday only to find that the international and Japanese Stagecrowd logins aren’t linked and that I only have an international account. Also, although (iirc) all the other covid-era Nogi livestreams were available on the international site, this was not. After a long, confused process of not understanding why I couldn’t log in, it hit me and by that point it was too late (and would have been a lot of hassle) to also create an acct on the Japanese site.

I’m glad to hear it was so good, though! Although I order most of the Nogi lives, I’ve never actually watched an Under Live. I figured it was time for that to change since I’m a fan of Runa and Miyu (and an on-again off-again Mio fan) but the universe felt otherwise.

I will go ahead and comment on this: I've seen a few YouTube videos posted these past few weeks with Taku Suzuki (of NogiEigo fame) interviewing Wada Maaya and Hina Higuchi, and specifically discussing their UnderGirls experience. Hopefully one of the regular members will post it here. I just wish my Japanese was better, or someone would find the whole interview and provide English subs; I guess though if I had my way, I'd want every word that was ever uttered about the UnderMembers put into English subtitles. This footage, though, borders on archival in regards to piecing together the full story of what the Undergirls went through.

It is very rare for Maaya to show emotion in front of the camera, but she really broke down during the filming in listening to Mr. Suzuki's words (and Hina did as well). As I've said before, I'm convinced that a drama or movie based off of the experience of all of those early long-suffering and "Unchosen" beauties would be one of the greatest stories ever written. I had the chance to pitch the idea (in writing) to Haruka Fukuhara and several others who lean towards reality-based docudramas about Japanese human-interest stories of triumph; the only problem I see arising is finding the characters to play them. After all, who other than the UnderGirls themselves could convincingly play Rarin, Marika, Inoue, or Himetan?

Happy Anniversary to the Under Members on a very special day today. 10 years ago on April 13th, 2014, after the national handshake event at Makuhari Messe, 17 innovative young women took the stage and performed the inaugural Under Live. What started as Mai Shinuchi’s vision for a way to give the UnderGirls their own creative outlet has become one of Nogizaka’s most anticipated semi-annual events. That day also saw Rena Matsui make her stage debut as a Nogizaka member, and witnessed Himetan celebrate her 18th birthday as well. Congratulations to all the Under Members past and present, and thank you for the special joy you have always given us.
