I think they've got a solid 10 years. If Morning Musume can live on with terrible material and shocking management for at least the last few years. AKB can certainly do it with a better management team and better promotion overall.

    hmm... my opinion

they have a good potential to last very long.

It's not like Morning Musume where it's expected to have group changes almost every year nor SPEED (non-idol) to have no changes at all.

So AKB has some versatility in how they manage the girls. It's true if they let go some key senbatsu members at once then hell yeah the interest might be mixed. But that'd likely never happen. Logically if it did at this point, if the girls had to graduate it'd have a meaningful reason. Weather she "aged" out like Mariko or did many years to the group like Tomochin or Acchan. Those my are top three girls who might be out first officially.

Others like Yukirin might graduate together with French Kiss Takajo and Kuramochi and Takamina. So i can really see some girls staying for the long run.

In the end some girls might go slowly but by the time some other girls might grow in popularity for the public to get used to them. Waiting for the day when Miichan or Suuchan hits the media senbatsu. Haha like that'll happen any year soon :awesome:

Yes, that's what I think too. A couple of years ago it seemed that AKB48 was only 'the senbatsu' + 'those girls who are being supported only by a few fans'. And now there are even many fans who don't follow any of the senbatsu members. The former 'least known girls', the students, SKE, NMB, ... have grown hugely in popularity so even if all the most popular members were graduated tomorrow, I'm sure AKB48 wouldn't collapse.
:approve: Well, Miichan is close, very close...

I think there are a lot of different factors that could play into this. If some of the more popular girls graduate and leave the group, this could affect the group's sales. Also, if the newer girls and trainees don't put as much effort into the group as the girls that help build up it's name, then it may fade quickly as well. Ultimately I think the group's success is linked to their image, hard work, and talent. With or without the founding girls, how the group manages these 3 factors will ultimately determine if they will continue to be as successful as they have been.

I give them 3-5 years at most to stay at the very top. 2 years is too short of a time span to drop to average popularity imo, especially considering how popular they are in Japan.

If they're still managed the way they are, then they should be fine for a while. Their sales may not be weekly millions, but they'd still be above average. About the senbatsu members graduating though, maybe, slowly though, one by one. When one senbatsu member leaves, a new girl will get popular. Once new senbatsu girl gets settled in with fans, maybe another senbatsu member will leave, and so on... Idk, I feel like they'll be relatively popular for a while, maybe not the way they are now, but still popular. Who knows, maybe AKB's been integrated so much into Japan, they'll be around for a long, long time.

Like this answer. We'll just have to hope that they can continue being rising stars for as long as possible. :)

Well, they are already quite legendary, I guess it will take some time until someone breaks all their records. However, I hope they set even higher standards... [rock]

It will depend on when the older members leave now that Acchan will be graduating. If someone else like Mariko decides to leave, it could trigger a domino's effect with other older members in their decision to leave.

The group still has potential since it has lots of younger members but Aki-p is the main lyricist. Who knows how long he'll be writing the majority, if not all, of the songs before letting someone else take over??

I've said earlier that the group could be around for at least 5 more years since it was originally intended for a 10 year stint according to the first documentary release. [aup]

I hope they change their mind, they debuted in 2005 so if they do what was originally intended AKB48 will disband in less than four years... :(

I still say two years, whether Atsuko graduated now or than it really wasn't going to make a difference.

[bow] I'm sorry if I gave a bad impression [angel] , I just want to say that if Akimoto Yasushi continue to do what he is doing, I believe AKB48 will not die soon. I just believe in him.

Akb48 has already been established as a National Idol Group
and their front girls are like Legendary when it comes to Idol World
If Aki-P can can make another batch of Kami-7 then
Akb48 has not only staying power but a dominant idol group
    in music industry.

Aki-P, Takamina and a few other people in AKB all said they know AKB's supreme popularity will not last. But I also read one Aki-P interview (which was really insightful as the interviewer is an articulate columnist who is also a AKB wota) that he wants AKB to be a "default existence" just like you always expect major league baseball to exist, you always expect AKB to be around. Also he said that the difference between previous idols is that AKB has a base to go back to. At the end they can still be "the idols whom you can go to meet", as the motto says. I think the life of AKB48 depends a great deal on how much energy Aki-P has. Without him, a lot of pieces may fall off and even if AKB stays it may become something very different without his production, lyrics and insights.
