After watching the clip that transcendental_protagonist uploded, I really wonder how it managed to sell that much!!!

Westerners have SO MUCH to learn from Japanese as regards cd promotion policy...

Note how Sae is actually behind him at 1:15 while Rina and Sayaka are both in front of their partners. Yeah.

It was hysterical when they zoomed in on Sae when they started doing those little arm-swinging things-- just accentuates how tiny they all are. XD

Now that's just disturbing. It shows that they actually rehearsed with him in front, possibly out of fear for Sae's safety. I can't think of any other reason. The guy's a big, happy and bald caucasian man with a beard, there's no telling what he'll do...wait a minute, I think we found the PV gunman.

Because the promotional event shown in that clip was unusual and I doubt it would help sales in any other country except Japan! Actually in my post there was a connection between that clip and your question, but laughter goes out to the clip, of course.

As you say, if my understanding is correct, many people must have bought more than just one copies of the single, so, yeah, it is possible that 5.000 people bought the single. It's good to see that the figure is quite big, anyway!
