After the latest outage that @currypuff mentioned, I'd like to remind all that Quarian Kotenbu will always make subtitles available on multiple platforms. Labour continues on episode 494, amid hectic work schedules. It should be done by 27-28 Dec., hopefully.

On currypuff's last point, about Sanjuro, I've asked for permission for Quarian Kotenbu to provide the 720p raw videos. I felt very uncomfortable about upsetting the status quo, but he seemed rather receptive to the idea! We think that it's simpler for everyone, but of course, we all hope that Sanjuro, among the most significant recent figures in the English fandom, stays an active part of the community for as long as possible!

Related to recent episodes, I'm curious to know what your favourite (doesn't have to be most hilarious) oshimen and non-oshimen moments of 2024 were. My non-oshimen highlight was Ioki-san's road-to-obsessive-killer Halloween fantasy (#486)!

For top oshimen moment, I generally mean for an active member. My kami-oshi retired before I found Nogizaka, though, so I automatically favour any new fragment from her! She recently became relatively active on Instagram, and appeared on-camera for the 1st time since 31 Aug., 2022 (when she supported her own oshimen), and the 1st time both speaking and undisguised since 20 Feb., 2017! Here she is, briefly, on 1 September, 2024, after 2,750 days!


Ps. Most are sure that fellow Ikkisei Kawago Hina-san was among her holiday friends. Kawago-san also watched the Tour live-stream, with her and Takayama-san, on 30 Aug., 2022, the day before Hashimoto-san actually went there with Takayama-san and Ikuta Erika-san. Also, yes, I know that Hashimoto-san was undisguised in a staff photo just before then, when revealed as a T.V. set producer post-graduation. She wasn't moving and talking, though!

Of course, we'll not let our distaste for LLC bleed into translations, and it'll be limited on public platforms. However, we don't tend to stay quiet about biases and suppression. One Kotenbu member even fights those for a living. We're incredibly proud of Yoda-san, who we adore so much! For a glimpse of how beloved a senpai she is, and what Nogizaka will lose in just 50 days, see the 2nd half of Koujichuu #438 and all of #439. As much as LLC have fought to limit and eliminate her as soon as possible, she long before cemented herself among the greatest members, for both fans and her fellow members.

If at all possible, get to meet and greet her soon, maiyanzaka46 and all others who've made that an active goal!

 

Weird then that she (and Momoko) were the first 3rd Gen centers...

 

I only mean from 2022, really. LLC and Seed&Flower seem to be on recent "rebooting" campaigns, pushing certain members to the side somewhat. I know that many are sad that she'll not be a graduating centre, and may be barely involved in the 38th single. Looking at early reaction, most also aren't surprised, though.

Go back to episode 493, when she gave a Fukuoka concert as her aspiration for 2025. She was likely thinking of it, for her graduation, when saying that, but the location probably hadn't been confirmed at the time of that recording!

 

She was always underused though. Reminds me a lot of Hori Miona, where she started as the face as her gen and then was important enough to be near the front for singles, but they didn't seem remotely interested in her as center again. Yoda meanwhile had 2 (likely soon-to-be 3) huge selling photobooks and a great career in acting, but they never wanted to leverage that. So if anything the way LLC dealt with her was even more crazy. The "scandal" such that it was, came after that.

 

She does have among the most-solid bases for a post-graduation career! For those who don't know, her graduation was also expected after that of her Nogizaka best friend, Mukai-san. It's like 4/5 Suika members graduating within 7 months of each other, or Watanabe Miria-san and Itō Junna-san going on the same day.

By the way, though she'd never mention it, GamusharaShimaRin's really heartened by your support on the other idol site, for both her individual and Quarian Kotenbu content! On the latter note, for anyone curious, we shall be fully archiving Mukai-san and Yoda-san's blogs, as well as the Hinatazaka 4.

 

I am seriously grateful that you remembered that one of my goals was to meet Yoda (and Ume) as they're the only recent oshis I haven't met yet. I really hope I can but it looks like there is no chance at all. I'm not able to go to Japan for a few more months and she'll be gone by then.

My best bet is attending a FC event if she opens one quickly lol

 

General question, guys: Does Nogizaka Koujichuu have a studio audience? Or are the people one can sometimes hear laughing the ones working behind the cameras?

 

There isn't an audience, only the studio crew. Some episodes they show the "back side" of the studio and there is just room for the crew.

No gratitude's needed, @maiyanzaka46. I just care about decent, behaved fans getting to express appreciation directly, on occasion. Graduates tend to be pretty active with their fan clubs, so you will get to meet her one day!

On a separate note, here is lacubo's translation of Iwamoto-san's latest blog post. Quarian Kotenbu are aware of recent events involving Iwamoto-san. We aren't going to massively explore them here, and we'd appreciate it if you guys wouldn't drag this thread that way, either. There are enough alternative places for inflammatory "fans", and those countering them. What we'd like to say is that we don't believe in toxicity or abuse towards anyone, even those with whom we disagree. We're certainly not going to ignore her countless contributions of excellence and love across 8 years, just because of 1 issue. Yes, she's harmed herself and others, but, like Matsumura Sayuri-san, that isn't all that she's done. We view people beyond just what's black-and-white. There's so much more positive than negative, and that provides overwhelming reason to believe that, as Matsumura-san did, more beautiful stories are yet to be written by Iwamoto-san. She still has those within her, so we'll give every platform to let them blossom.

As you've likely noticed, #497 has aired, and you guys still await subtitles for #496. In full disclosure, they will come soon, but are later than usual for 2 reasons. The 1st is that, after the announcement of the closures of Mukai-san's and both the Sankisei and Yonkisei's debut relay blogs for 31 Jan., we decided to start slowly archiving them earlier than normal, due to the sheer amount. The 2nd, and main, reason is that GamusharaShimaRin and Kyouma-kun are heavily involved in mental health work in January.

Rin-chan is a 24/7 mental illness carer. Kyouma-kun—mentally ill himself—assists her with programmes every January, the annual peak of worldwide suicides, in addition to his own job. As you saw with our debut episode, we can do an episode within 2 days from airing, schedules permitting. For obviously-tragic reasons, their commitments make that far less doable at the start of calendar years. We'd managed to release before each next episode aired until now, but, from what I gather, this past week was much more testing than before. It's unfortunate, but I hope you'll all understand. We're close, and we'll go right into #497 after #496 is done, to get back on schedule.

You may not necessarily make their workload easier, but we're all capable of easing things mentally for someone, if we're paying attention.

 

You don't have to explain in detail what's going on. We're grateful to still get the subs and hope everything will be okay!
