The STAGE48 Help & Troubleshooting Thread

In this thread I'll try to answer the most common problems and issues that come up when using this forum to save us all some hassle.

Forum look

Q: The forum banner doesn't appear, it's just an empty rectangle!

A: Do you have Ad Block/Ad Block Plus running? The birthday banners rely on a php script to display, which can be blocked by anti-advertisement plugins in your browser.

Q: I never see a birthday banner/the birthday banners never disappear!

A: Hit F5 on your keyboard or the "refresh" button on your browser. To save bandwidth/speed up loading your browser will often keep an old version of the forum layout on your computer, so it might not know there's a new banner to display.

Q: What's that green bar next to my/other people's names in threads?

A: It means you/they are online or have been in the past 5 minutes.

Q: Why do some people have grey/blue/black/red names?

A: Grey is the standard colour for a normal user. Blue is also for normal users, but it's a relic from another time and will disappear in the future. Black is for moderators and red is for administrators of the forum; these people are the ones you shouldn't ignore

Posts & Threads

Q: The layout of posts is all broken!

A: Did you/someone above you do a "quote"? With a spoiler tag in it, perhaps? "Broken tags" are usually the cause. This is when somebody has opened a tag like (spoiler) but forgot to close it with a (/spoiler). It's very easy to delete it by accident, especially if you are quoting someone else's tags. If it's your fault, you can edit your post to make the change, but if not, please 'report' (see below) the post so a mod can fix it.

Please spend a few extra seconds to wait for your post to load and make sure it looks 'right' before you move on, it can save you embarrassment and us the time to fix it!

Email

Q: I don't receive sign-up/subscription/PM notification emails!

A: Please make sure that-

1) Your email is correct in your profile; and
2) admin at stage48.net is not being blocked, sent to junk/spam mail, etc. This is especially important if you haven't visited the forum since June 2012 when the address was changed.
3) Do not use a gmail address to sign up, gmail will reject the confirmation emails

Other problems

Q: Somebody broke one of the rules / a post is all broken / something else!

A: A healthy dose of common sense is always helpful when on the Internet. If it's something you can fix or you can politely resolve the issue, go for it. If it's obviously a serious problem with the forum / major break of the rules / the world is ending, you can hit the 'report' button in the top right of the post-


Q: I'm lost and I don't know what to do!

A: Have a read of The Stage48 Directory and have fun!

 

The memberlist broken and then started working and then broke again, but that'll be fixed very soon.
