Yamamoto Sayaka (Sayaka) / 1st Generation

Such a beautiful song

 

I subbed Hotaru, the last song from Sayaka's Identity album!
I thought it wrapped up the album really well! XD



As I was subbing the song, I also was kind of analysing the lyrics Sayaka composed, and reflecting on it. And here's what I personally interpreted from it below. Please take with a grain of salt haha.

I think this song could be interpreted in several different ways, but the general gist I got from it was Sayaka representing herself as a firefly which we all know has a really short lifespan.

This could be a very possible reference to her limited time as an idol. So “firefly” is herself as an idol. But not just any firefly, but one that has fallen in love with her group (NMB) and the work that she does with them as an idol. I also kind of can see the song talking about how much Sayaka values her experience and the people supporting her.

That even if they “end up being attached to someone else” (oshihening/changing biases/moving on with life), whenever they feel like they’re in the dark or stuck in life, she still wants to shine her light and be there for them (through her music etc).

Some parts of it even felt like it could be written from the POV of us as fans. Especially when she sang,

“But just cause I want to see your smile

I’ll go see you again and again”

This actually really sounds like the fans who go see Sayaka again and again just to see her smile.

Then the part after that when she sings about the things she has worked hard to establish, I feel like that’s a direct reference to the NMB she has built up today with the rest of the members; not just the group itself but the memories they made, the goals they were able to achieve, the relationships she made etc. And even if there were painful moments, all of it are important to her, so she wants to keep them in her heart always.

The part near the end, she is basically saying that if she were to be reborn again, this experience and NMB itself has become so important to her that she’ll actually want to do it all over again.

Thus, at the very end, she sings about how she’ll never forget her time with NMB (even if she were to graduate one day), and sincerely thanks everyone (members, family, fans, staff, and everyone supporting her) for everything.

I just watched the YokoYamamoto skit on AKB48 Show, they actually said "YokoYamamotoです forever" hahaha

I had no idea about it in my previous post when I wrote "#横山本 forever"

Being an idol standing on stage for 7 years, there have been people while being my support who grow older together with me. Just that makes me so thankful and happy inside to the point I could burst ;_;
