AKB48

AKB48 is the creation of legendary producer Akimoto Yasushi, a female theatre-based Idol group set in Akihabara where their theatre resides, created in 2005 and currently signed under King Records. AKB48 holds the Guinness World Record for being the world's "largest pop group". Currently, it consists of four teams: Team A, Team K, Team B, and Team 4 with 16 members, summing up to a total of 64 members as of March 24, 2012. There is also a trainee team, Research Students, compiled of replacement members. Currently, they hold the record of having the highest overall single sales (of a female group) on the Oricon charts.

SKE48

SKE48 is a female theater-based idol group produced by Akimoto Yasushi and they were under Nippon Crown records but switched to avex trax on May 28, 2011. SKE48 is known to be the sister-group of AKB48 established in 2008 with their activities based in Nagoya. The group currently consists of three teams, Team S and Team KII and Team E. There is also a trainee team, Research Students, compiled of replacement members.

NMB48

NMB48 is a idol group based in Osaka and produced by Akimoto Yasushi, under laugh out loud records. The group currently consists of two teams, Team N and Team M. The rest are Research Students, compiled of replacement members.

HKT48

HKT48 is a new idol group based in Fukuoka. Only Team H was announced. There is also a trainee team, Research Students, compiled of replacement members.

SDN48

SDN48 is a female theater-based idol group produced by Akimoto Yasushi and signed under Universal Music. SDN48 is known to be the mature version of AKB48 with members aged 20 and above, they perform in the AKB48 theater throughout the week. The group's members are currently divided into 1st Generation, 2nd Generation and 3rd Generation. All the members graduated from the group on March 31, 2012, through their farewell concert.

JKT48

JKT48 is an Indonesian girl group. It is the first AKB48's sister group outside of Japan, and it will be based in Jakarta. On November 3, 2011, they revealed the Research Students members.

TPE48

TPE48 is a Taiwanese girl group based in Taipei. They are currently holding auditions for the group.

SNH48

SNH48 is a Chinese girl group based in Shangai. Nationwide Auditions in China are rumored to be begin in August and they’re aiming to form the first team by December 8th, which will be the 7th anniversary of AKB48.

Nogizaka46

Nogizaka46 (乃木坂46) is a idol group produced by Akimoto Yasushi and it's the first rival group from AKB48. The members were announced on June 29, 2011.
