(adjective). While Kenkyuujou means research lab, Mayuu chose this because there's "research" from research student (研究生) there. This Organzaka episode is a win It was really heartwarming to see Nanase trying to defuse the situation from exploding but still being nice to the juniors. Seems like Hinako was ready to blow up after the show if they didn't reveal it. Yukichan and Mizumin's acting were very good, especially when they started fighting over who's at fault for the jump rope. It was funny and at the same time hurt a bit inside watching the senpais. Yukitan : When I got a chance to participate in a tv show recording. I felt nervous/excited to be in a place where I could just look at (on TV) before. Aichan : When I did Zenza performance at theater. I realized that AKB48 is the only idol group that does performance everyday in the theater. Yuki : Similarly, when I did zenza too. The fact that I can perform the songs that I always saw and loved. Niinan : For me it's when I borrowed the costume. This skirt is Sakaguchi Nagisa's costume, and I'm a fan of her so I'm very happy. Nonchan : I felt being AKB member when I stood with the senpais on the stage in theater, also when they call my name. Mayuuchan : Being able to meet the senpais whom I could only see on TV before, quite frequently too, that was the moment. Sorara : Same with the other two. People I saw on TV, are in front of me. They are really cute, I'm so happy! Also the moment I saw myself being on AKB48 official website. Mizumin : When I searched my name and the pics are showing up, I felt it. Hotechan : For me, being able to actually use the Lesson Studio that I saw a lot in Youtube and others. It felt really strange (in good way). Kokko : I've not been doing dance before, so having daily lessons on dancing and singing felt really like something is changing. Eriko : I've been living in Osaka with my family, but now I moved to Tokyo. I'm not with my family anymore, so when at home here I felt like "I'm working in Tokyo now". After entering AKB, do you notice anything unusual? Mayuuchan : Honestly, I thought an all-girls group with lots of people would have scary senpais and a lot of frictions, but in fact there are none of those. Senpais returned my greetings with smiles, also everyone in my generation is very nice, so it's all good. Niinan : In regards to the relationship with staffs, managers, and senpais, I thought the atmosphere would be more rigid/cold. However it turns out be kinda bubbly, not-so-distant and cheery atmosphere instead. Yukitan : The "at-home" feeling. Sorara : For me, I thought there would be just a bit less lessons and more self-practice... well it's harder than I thought! (with a wry smile) Hotechan : I also thought self-practice would be more prominent, so I got a bit surprised that the sensei/trainers/coaches actually paid a lot of attention to our lessons and voice trainings. Eriko : It's the opposite for me. I thought that it would be all dancing lesson together with everyone, so I felt that there is actually a lot of self-lesson time by looking at the individually looking at videos. Also the fact that those self-teaching videos exist. Yukichan : I only saw the sparkling side on TV, but in fact the number of songs and things to remember are a lot! The pace are also fast, that part is more demanding than I thought! The 17th gen Introduction livestream on May 4th, and now doing zenza performances in theater shows, what does it feel like standing on the theater stage? Aichan : The triggering reason for me to enter AKB48 was when I watched a theater show, so standing on the stage that I was aspiring for feels like I got a bit closer to my dream. I was nervous, but with the feeling of Kokko : The distance with audience is close, everyone is very nice too. Mizumin : If I live normally, certainly people won't be swinging their penlight/lightsticks at me. When I saw that sight, "ah, this is what the senpais have been experiencing!" was what I thought and felt deeply. Kokko : When I stand on the stage, due to nervousness my legs feels wobbly. In these two months are there any backstage episode/interesting happening? Hotechan : Before starting (the intro event) I was so nervous and cried. When it was thankfully over without problems, I felt really relieved. Niinan : Before the intro stage started, all 11 of us formed a circle/enjin. (circle of people showing solidarity before doing something together) Who lead the enjin? Yukitan : At the time it was Aichan who did it. For Satou-san, is there any backstage episode you want to share? Aichan : hmm... rather than that, when I watched the livestream after the event, the last formation (of the Oogoe Diamond) was not properly formed, and I felt disappointed a bit. But in the 「TGC teen 2022 Fukuoka」 right after that, we were able to fix that part so I was happy. Members of 17th gen who has different image compared to the first time impression? Now, let's talk about everyone's characteristics. Are there any members who have different image compared to the first time impression? Niinan : (Pointing at Yuki) I thought she'll be a cool beauty, but actually has youngest sister characteristics. Yukitan : I also thought she'd be a calm/composed big sister, but sometimes she'll do unusual things. Like suddenly burst into laughing, etc. (laughs) Yuki : You don't have to say those ~~ (laughs) For Hirata-san own image do you want to be the cool one? Yuki : Yes! Well I'm already cool so.. Yukitan & Niinan : Nope! (laugh) Mizumin : Eri-chan also at first has the image of calm, shy, prim and proper image, but actually it's all different. When talking there's something strange, her actions are also ridiculous(laugh). But those make her easy to interact with, so it's all good in my opinion. First time looking at Nonchan, she doesn't look like a 9th grader (3rd year of middle school). She's the only big sister in 17th gen, so she's the most reliable-looking one, and well actually reliable! Although she also has a playful/mischievous side too. Sorara : Adult-like but not too adult-like feeling is the easiest to interact with. For me, I thought Hotechan was younger than me, honestly when we first met I thought she's a middle schooler. Aichan : She's so cute, she looks like she's the type to eat pancakes, but actually she drinks ENERGY DRINK everyday (laugh) Sorara : Just before she wanted to drink some cola, but there was none so she drank Energy drink instead. You can clearly see the shock in my face when I saw that. Mayuuchan : For Aichan, she's really serious at doing things. She often pays attention to her surrounding, teach dance to others, also checking/confirming everything. I have none of those so I respect her. Yukitan : Niinan is very stoic/disciplined. Yuki : In private mail for example. Niinan : There is a Private Mail where we send mail to fans. (explaining to the interviewer) Yuki : Everyone else is sending about 3 mails per day, but you send more, right? Niinan : Recently being a bit busy I can't send a lot, but I'm trying to send 5 or more mails. I'm currently receiving Miion-san's mails, they give a friendly feeling and I want to use those as my reference. For Hasegawa-san, what are things you found splendid from other members? Niinan : Yukitan's sense of (musical) pitch! I only know musical instrument's notes, but Yukitan can say the notes from just hearing a song! Yuki : I thought Yukitan would be a more quiet girl. Yukitan : Eeh? That's the first time someone said that to me! Lastly, do you have any AKB48 song that you liked or even danced to before joining? Sorara : I love 11gatsu no Anklet. First idol I ever liked was Watanabe Mayu-san, also 11gatsu no Anklet feels like "THE KAWAII" song so I love it. Mayuuchan : For me it's 365nichi no Kamihikouki. Being "Asa Ga Kita" theme song is one thing, but including the drama I like it all. Hotechan : Hachinosu Dance. I listened to it while auditioning, it lifts up your spirits. Right now there's a lot of songs to be remembered so I can't do it, but one day I would be very happy to dance that song. Aichan : I love First Rabbit. I learned cheer dance when I was younger, and at 5th grade, maybe because of my young age, I was placed at the back of the formation, and I felt disappointed. At that time I listened to this song, and feel more positive, that's why it's one of my loved songs. Eriko : I really love Maeda Atsuko-san, so Maeda-san center songs. I also loved Skirt, Hirari and danced to it. I started liking it at 1st grade. Aichan's going to be this generation's centre and I'm all for it. She is hardworking and has a captivating energy on the stage, and, of course, an incredible idol aura. Really hope she's not down due to the recent events :/
I wonder what it'd be like if Aichan surpasses Kiichan in popularity? They're obviously pushing her a lot and so far, I can only see positive reactions from it. We've had sister duos before, but the only ones I've paid attention to were Tomu and Orin. Tomu is still much more popular than Orin and I doubt that'll change. It did help Orin though, I think there's a few fans who'd consider themselves Muto Sisters Oshi. I just looked through the wiki to look at some sister duos; Spoiler: Off topic NMB48: Jonishi Kei and Jonishi Rei. Keicchi was an ori member, she was part of senbatsu all the time and also ranked alright in the general election. She announced her graduation 4 months after Rei joined NMB48, when Rei was still a sort of unknown Kenkyuusei, so there was no rivalry or tension there. Nakano Reina and Nakano Mirai. Reina graduated also 4 months after Mirai joined, although neither of them have ever progressed past featuring in B-sides, so I can't judge their popularity. Odan Mai and Odan Yui. Yui only stayed for about a year, Mai (the first sister to join) stayed for about 7 years and was also way more popular. Yamada Nana and Yamada Suzu. Nana is legendary, no further comment necessary. Team TP: Chen Shih-ya and Chen Shih-yuan both joined as original members, so not comparable. That being said, when Shih-ya was promoted, Shih-yuan left (some TP fans might have more insight on this though, I'm just comparing dates). Mixed groups: Nomura Nao and Nomura Miyo. Miyo was drafted by Team S and Nao by Team K, both at the same draft. Nao graduated as a kenkyuusei, and Miyo was promoted 2 months later. I don't think Miyo's promotion had anything to do with Nao's graduation, as the graduation happened first. However, Miyo was chosen for a lot of SKE48 songs whereas Nao only participated in 1 single song in the 2 years and 5 months that she was with AKB48, and that was a Janken song. She might have graduated because she didn't get any opportunities, especially compared to her sister. Rissen Airi and Rissen Momoka. Airi was part of AKB48 Team 8, Momoka is a member of STU48. In her 2 years with AKB, Airi was only part of 2 songs (one of which was Hanareteitemo, aka the song every single member was part of). Meanwhile, Momoka is a senbatsu member. No wonder Airi thought her career might flourish better elsewhere (she joined a different idol group after AKB) Yabushita Shu and Yabushita Fu. Also no need for comparison, Shu (NMB48) graduated a month after Fu joined (STU48), so obviously Shu was more popular and more known at the time. Yahagi Yukina and Yahagi Moeka. Yukina was the first of her generation to make SKE48 senbatsu (within 10 months, still a KKS at the time) and got promoted within a year, but then she suddenly graduated. Moeka was promoted after 11 months and then chosen for AKB48 senbatsu after 15 months. I think they both had similarly successful careers that ended quickly, unfortunately, but probably unrelated to one another. In conclusion, in most cases, the younger sister either doesn't get as popular, or the older sister is on her way out by the time the younger sister comes in. In the case of Rissen Airi and Rissen Momoka though, the younger sister got more popular within her respective group with more opportunities, and I wouldn't be surprised if it led to Airi's decision to leave. With Aichan getting a push, I believe she has a chance of becoming more popular than Kiichan and I wonder what will happen then. I hope they're close enough as sisters and discussed this beforehand (or will soon) so they can support each other.

Kiichan was on variety route before (appearing in a few AKBINGOs IIRC), but I don't know if she wants to continue there. Aichan seems to be on a more traditional idol route. As long as they have stable job lined up and no other future plans, they will stay. Popularity is a fickle thing though, it's one thing to get there, but maintaining it is actually the bigger task in my opinion. Yeah no doubt about it. Aichan also has the knack of leadership it seems so she's really a big asset. I hope they keep the gen together for a while to build more bonds, and not rush to promote them to proper teams. (well management is pushing them as a team quite hard right now anyway) Oh also we'll see her reaction to missing the POPFES stage soon on showroom. Update Favorite Theater Show of 17th gen from bayfm questionnaire Yukitan Theater no Megami stage There is a song that I really really like, and also because I love the Idol-ish feel & songs order Kokko Saka Agari stage This was my first time seeing AKB48 stage with my own eyes and the singing, dance and performance of the senpais was so good I got suprised, therefore leaving me with the most impression and I like it a lot. Aichan Te wo Tsunaginagara The first time I went to AKB48 Theater, even though there was an 8-member limit, looking at the members doing full-power performance, I can feel everyone's energy, and I feel that's AKB's unique charm. It's thanks to this stage show that I decided to try to stand on the same stage today. Erichan Tadaima Renaichuu The stage that is designated as our (17th gen) very first stage, it will always be in our memories. Also I love the songs in the setlist such as [BINGO], [7ji 12fun no Hatsukoi], [Seifuku ga Jama wo suru], so I choose this stage. Niinan Mokugekisha Because I want to see cool performances! Nonchan Boku no Taiyou My second ever zenza was assigned on this stage. One of reason I choose this is that even though there are many cheerful, happy songs, I really love Itoshisa no Defense. I like the quick (emotion) change from that song to the next one, Himawari. Yukinee Renai Kinshi Jourei It has the unit songs I love, Kuroi Tenshi and Tsundere, also Hikoukigumo. I also think the stage itself has adult feel that's charming for me. Hotechan Saka Agari Because this is the first stage I saw live. Especially [Wagamama no Nagareboshi], it's really cute and I want to perform it one day. I like cool songs, and Saka Agari has a lot of cool songs that I like, so I chose this. Mayuuchan/Masaru Boku no Taiyou The first ever stage I ever saw was Boku no Taiyou, I really have fond memories of it. Looking at the senpais singing, dancing and shining brightly, I also want to be like them. Especially I love the song Himawari, when I first listened to it I really felt impressed. Mizumin Idol Shuugyouchuu (アイドル修行中) The stage produced by the esteemed Kashiwagi Yuki-san, also it has tons of songs that I love! Sorara Watanabe Mayu's Graduation Stage Mayu-san is the one that made me want to become an Idol, so I choose this stage.
