This is one of the best ideas to come out of 48G for a recent while. Not only does it put the spotlight on members who don't generally get it, but it also showcases the hidden vocal talent that does exist in 48G and is largely ignored or not utilized.

So I'm pleased they went with a 2nd edition. Not sure about it being a yearly thing because wouldn't it be the same top every year? Then again, members graduate, members who didn't enter last year might this year and vice versa, new research students join, etc.

if I calculate right then out of the top 40 last year only 3 girls graduated (Yura, Rittan, Kohaku) + one might not be able to join (Noe)? Only SKE, NMB and HKT have had new gens since.

I'm fine with the event, but, I mean, if the finalists are (mostly) the same then it's kinda boring and doesn't make much sense, while if there are big changes then it just proves that it was/is pretty random and arbitrary selection and it doesn't make much sense either.

The top should be +65% the same, to show that the judging is more or less consistent. Again, the performance and song choice matters too. For example last year Rissen's throat wasn't in top shape during the finals which made her bomb or Juri who picked an incredibly difficult song so she didn't rank. Even if the top is completely the same I think it's worth it for the entries / performances alone. As someone who watched all the entries I didn't completely agree with the top 40 either so hopefully girls who didn't rank will rank this time because of their performance / song choice. A different judge panel will influence the results too.

A suggestion could be that the #1 from last year (Nojima Kano) can't compete the following year, that way the same person can't win each year.

From the decent/good voices last year the girls who graduated are Goto Moe, Takahashi Juri, Taya Misaki, Yokomichi Yuri, Hitomi Kotone, Katsumata Saori, Ueki Nao, Sugahara Riko, Sugahara Saki, Yura Akari. And despite not participating last year I'm sad Ichioka Ayumi graduated too, who had a great voice.

I hope that this time Toyonaga Aki will qualify in the final group. In my opinion she has a beautiful voice

There's actually quite a bit of variation in terms of participants in comparison to last contest.

Neutral color = confirmed to be participating again for the 2nd singing contest.
Pink color = new participant who didn't join last contest.
Burgundy color = participated last contest but hasn't entered this time.

With the members not participating this time and new ones, the result should be interesting, especially when Nojima Kano isn't participating.
And hopefully my oshi (Isogai Kanon) doesn't embarrass herself. Singing isn't her strong suit, even tho she has improved a lot through Gogoriba
