    There is something I don't get. Having an occupation that requires lots of close contacts: why don't they get vaccinated ?

    Because Japan pretended for so long they didn't have corona because... Olympics. Vaccination in that country is really behind most developed nations.

    They're not eligible yet. Last I heard Japan is still rolling out by age group and it's slow going.

    Haruppi and Meru got their first doses, they are 24 and 21 respectively so they got it somehow.

    From one article dated in June, showing how far Japan is behind most Western countries:

    May: Japan formally approved the Moderna and AstraZeneca vaccines for local use on May 21, however, the rollout for AstraZeneca vaccines was paused later the same day. On May 24, Japan opened large-scale vaccination centres in Tokyo and Osaka.

    June: Japan formally began the rollout for people aged under 65 on June 21

    July: The government has a goal of inoculating all senior residents by the end of July. In Fukuoka [but not elsewhere, which explains Haruppi and Meru], officials are working to expedite inoculations with a plan to set up 24-hour vaccination centres for the general public, to be operational in July.

    September:According to The Japan Times, vaccine chief Taro Kono says Japan will secure enough vaccines to inoculate all residents aged 16 and older by the end of September.

    Good news to hear they were able to! My friends in Tokyo say their age group (30+) started semi recently, but perhaps they're further behind the other prefectures? Or there are special circumstances, too?

    Either way I'm glad they're starting to get them!

    Edit: just saw the comment above, hope the other prefectures start expediting as well.

    Until recently Japan had issues securing enough of the vaccine, so they were limiting it to the elderly as @sscrla posted. But a number of members have been vaccinated already (I know Miu, and I'm told Berin) and others are scheduled to be.

    40% of the Japan population has been vaccinated at least one time. 30% two times. While Japan is slow to start, the current rate is over 1m/day. I am 26 and I have been fully vaccinated since last month.

    HOWEVER, while the rollout of the primary vaccination procedure was slow, Japan previously allow workplace to apply for their own vaccination (meaning that the gov will supply the vaccine, but the company themselves manage the procedure and doctors, as only doctors are allow to give vaccination in Japan). A few number of entertainment company vaccinate their members using this route, but I don't believe any of the 48G did. (The gov. stopped this procedure for now due to lack of vaccine).

    NMB48 did through their Yoshimoto connection. Hori Shion even made a video about it after the 1st dose. They had their 2nd dose a few days ago, she might make a video again I guess.

    I may be wrong, but I think they gave it to the senbatsu first. Or at least the Majimuri stage cast.

    Nishikawa Rei said that her mother booked a vaccination slot for her, and she's both Sembatsu and Majimuri cast. So I don't think DH is the one giving vaccination.
