seems like covid left some marks on her throat condition, overall stamina/energy, and her confidence
she can't do as well as before, and starting to get left behind on lessons etc, and she feel the pressure to catch up but her body just can't.
she didn't want to be half-hearted and after consultation with managers, she decided to resign
she's really emotional right now

apparently her university is kinda strict, missing 3 classes = fail
akb48 managers already tried their best to rearrange her schedules,
but her school requires a lot
missing the showroom senbatsu also affected her


Opinion : I really don't see why the option of long hiatus (until she finished univ in about 6 months) is not an option for management
she's one of their top value newcomer
nvm she just answered that it's not an option for kenkyuusei

Thanks @donjonnie for the translation. I watched the last 20 minutes or so of her Showroom - 99.99% of the time idols make me very happy but on rare occasions they break my heart and that was certainly one such time. It seems clear to me that her University is very inflexible and she didn't really have any choice but I wonder if her health had've been better post-covid that she might have considered continuing with AKB48 instead, who knows.

I noticed at the end of her broadcast that the total number of viewers was exactly 8888. In Japan the number eight is considered to be lucky and it represents future prosperity. Let's hope that happens for Niinan.

I can understand her decision. My university also restricts no more than 3 absences per subject or I won't be able to attend the final exam. Balancing idol works with academics is never easy, especially if she studies something different from economics or languages.
After all, it's nobody's false, Niinan has tried her best, also the management. But it's still very heart-breaking, if ever there's no Covid....?
This news certainly will affect other 17ki a lot since she's the big sister of the team.

This is so sad and unexpected T_T I never thought Niina would quit considering she was a streamer before joining and she seems just perfect to be an idol... but it looks like she had her reasons especially because of university, and getting covid made everything worse. Sigh. I wish management let her take a break instead, if it's against the rules for KKS then they could change the rules... she will finish her studies in a few months and her health could get better too. it feels unfair that she has to stop because of this, it's like she has no other choice ._.

I know I didn't post about 17th gens a lot after their debut but I actually follow them quite closely and I like them all, and for Niina, it's especially after the Showroom contest that I start supporting her more, she worked hard and she's full of energy and super nice, she went up in my ranking to be one of my favorites of this gen. it was so sad when she had to stop after getting infected with covid... and this probably affected her too, she really had a chance to make it but it didn't happen ._. She also had to be replaced for the shonichi of 17th gen stage because of studies... I can imagine that this was discouraging to her ._. She really just needed a break... instead she has to quit so fast after joining, it's a loss for the group...

I'm so used to see the 17th gens all together, it will be so weird to see them with 10 members now without Niina T_T She often did the talking and she was like an older sister, especially since she had experience... and at the same time she was one of the members who had the most cuteness and an adorable smile ;w; it will feel like something is missing now T_T

 

niina i hope she will continue her studies well and, if she's still interested later, tries again at being an idol as she has so much potential and really caught my eye

The Hasegawas of AKB48 shines bright and burns out quickly huh....

 

This is such a shame, and I think her university is being unfair, given the circumstances. Surely plenty of students need part time jobs to be able to afford university life. It seems she's suffering still from long-term effects of COVID, so they should really be more lenient about their rules.

Personally, at my university, they took absences, but there was no minimum requirement and I actually knew people who never came to class at all. They said you can study on your own if you like, and if you fail, that's on you for never coming to class. If you never turned up for the absence thing, the university would email you and offer support, like check you're fine, both physically and mentally; and if need be, they would refer you to a physician or the on-campus mental health wellbeing team.

On the other hand... I'm luckily not an idol or a singer, because COVID robbed me of my voice too. I was never anything like Ariana Grande or Whitney Houston, but I was a good singer, if I do say so myself. Now, sometimes my voice doesn't even come out at all, and I had COVID back in 2020. Also, I was really, really ill for about 2 weeks and when I thought COVID was over, I realised that I still needed about 12 hours of sleep to feel rested. That finally settles after about 7 months.

I obviously don't know the specifics of Niinan's condition and what her health looks like now. In my case, I also caught the illness before vaccinations were available, and hopefully she's been vaccinated to soften the blow a little. That being said, if she struggles with her voice and stamina, and she might do so for months, it's just really cruel and I'm really sorry for her. I want to say I wish she would audition again for an upcoming audition, but she'll probably be outside the age requirements by the time there is another audition. She's already over 20 now. I feel just really sorry for her.

• Regarding the accounts, she says that as per AKB contract in April, she has deleted them all.
• But then a person from the office said that she's allowed to say her goodbye to her old follower, and she's allowed to keep them as memories.
• She already deleted them at this point, but was able to restore all her social media accounts since it was within 1 month of deletion.
• Thus at May 4th (17ki reveal date), she could post the last goodbye.

And now they can be used again for her own personal usage.

She says she's feeling better, not a lot of breathing problems, and have caught up to her studies in university. Feels like she's back to normal.
The date for her next stream is still undecided though.

I do hope her symptoms go away eventually and that she can make some money on the side through SHOWROOM while being at university. It's a shame that it's pretty much guaranteed she won't audition for AKB48's 18th Gen.
