I’m sorry but could someone tell me since when Yuiyui become so popular that she was picked to be the center of a single’s title song? And why?
I haven’t been following AKB for a long time since my oshi graduated ( Yesterday I watched Teacher Teacher by chance and Yuiyui catched my eyes..

The thing is she didn't become popular and all of a sudden they grant her the centre position. But answering the question when did she become so popular, well, around late 2015. That was the beginning.

Basically she was once nobody at eito, then became very good at HS so that she became an urban legend among fans around mid 2015, that there is a hidden kami taiyou of HS in eito. That leads to more fans want to know and do HS with her, hence the good number of sales.
Then everything snowball from there. She got the right age (still in early high school, when she start to rose she was a JHS student), right character (innocent imouto chara), the right momentum (Mayu is graduating, while no one in AKB is big enough to fill her shoes, so that they need to pick a good future candidate with similar character), the right gimmick (once in 20000 girl), and she manage to do it all decently.

 

More like the "legend" led to better sales.

Yuiyui's is a pretty lucky girl. Her career is like the existence of life on Earth: there were a lot of absurd conditions that needed to be met for it to happen... and they did. All of them.

 

like in sports, sometimes it's better to be lucky than be good... being in the right place at the right time is key.

Also, she was great in the last AKBingo episode... she had some great comedic timing, so it's nice to see that she's got a lot more tricks up her sleeve.
