    I'm a girl too ^_^ Yay!

    I can't say I'm really surprised by the poll thus far--AKB48 is an idol group so it would make sense that there were more male fans than female. But I'm still glad that us girls aren't few and far between!

    Say... I have a theory, feel free to er, counter it :XD:

    Umm... I think it could be proximity.

    From a great distance and in cyberspace, AKB becomes a concept, and everyone can appreciate that concept regardless of gender. [nod]

    But from close proximity, they become a group of attractive young women. And it seems that other women are not as interested in huddling around another attractive woman as opposed to guys... guys will swarm a pretty young lady. :pirate:

    The reverse of the situation could be also be said. :fear:

    Also, this existing large amount of guys huddled around an attractive woman will create the negative zone for other women who might be interested in the attractive woman. They might see the masses of men around her and be put off from joining in... [nod]

    So who knows, there might be a lot of women in Japan who could get into AKB but since there are so many fanboys in close proximity, are dissuaded. [wonder] But I don't really know...

    Err, so yeah. Spur of the moment idea and no research to back it at all :^^;:

    And actually, I've seen a few market distributions studies on japan tv that showed the kind of repartition we have here. It's not a particularity of foreign countries.
    This may be one of the reasons why they are selling more than Johnny's ...

    I guess that many girls would like to be an AKB member and that's why they follow the group. Why this doesn't happen with the boys and Johnny's too? Perhaps it's because the boys are too busy looking at the AKB members... :rofl:

    I've heard that a lot of Japanese female fans are a bit off going to concerts etc due to the large amount of male fans. For example, they don't want to be the short girl stuck in a crowd of tall guys who are dancing around, shouting and hitting each other with glowsticks etc... a lot of female fans would prefer to just chill out, sit down and watch while clapping rather than dancing and going crazy. I definitely noticed that at hellopro concerts, the family sections (aka sitting down rows) are full of parents with children and groups of girls.

    (That's not to say there aren't girls who mosh like crazy, there certainly are [hehe] )

    I'm guessing that Girls would also be interested in a different dimension of things such as fashion and styling [makeup] [nerd] while guys would be more interested in "service." :cute: :nb:

    Yeah, lol. I definitely think that's a case. I think it's not just a lack of trying, :hehe: guys just don't look good trying it out... The girls are just so much better at doing these things...

    The difference between the videos before I even hit the play button was pretty much evident. :fp:

    The large number of female members on this forum surprises me, I had always thought of AKB as a more for-males type of group seeing how it's all girls. That's why I'm sort of leaning towards this -
    But correct me if I'm wrong fellow female members.

    Well, even if fanservice and all is targeted at a male audience, the actual style of the music, the performances, costumes and all that is very girly. I think a lot of guys actually wouldn't feel very confortable admiting to liking something so girly, at least in the west xD (by 'in the west' I mean people who aren't familiar with jmusic lol)

    lol, that's actually one reason why I follow AKB but i'm getting old now, but that wasn't why at first. I agree with what Meroron said about AKB being girly. As a girl, I like cute and girly stuff, lol. I really like the clothes AKB wears on the stages. And I love all their dances! I also enjoy idol music, haha.

    lol, I'm one of the crazy ones! I don't know how people can sit around during concerts. I'd be hyper the whole entire time! Haha. But I do have to admit that seeing the amount of male fans in concerts (DVDs) did scare me a bit at first, lol. I'm used to it now, though. If (...when) I ever go to a concert, I'll probably be chanting with all the guys, lol. :hehe:

    well for some of the fangirls here...well maybe...
    But for me...no, that isn't the case.

    Honestly, I don't even know how I became an AKB fangirl :3
    I went from being a huge Johnny's fan to liking a coed group (AAA) and now AKB48...though I still love all 3.

    But I noticed this grew more apparent as time passed...Growing up in my teenage years...well I'm still a teen...but I began to want to find girls to look up, girls to respect and girls to admire. I'm pretty liberal in a sense that I can be a fangirl all I want and admire another girl's beauty, determination + other admirable qualities while maintaining the fact that I'm still more sexually attracted by guyss xP

    It started with my favourite member from AAA...from being a guy member...suddenly it shifted to the female member cause I looked up to her. Then AKB48 came along...at the moment, my three favourites...sayaka, takamina, yuko...they are my favourites cause they have talents and qualities I really admire...and at the same time, they're still as human as me...and that really came through to me.

    Lols I'm glad I can be completely honest with you guys here...

    Cause some people find it strange when I say I'm a straight girl...why?
    Ignorant people question my sexual orientation just cause I happen to be a 17-year-old girl who really likes AKB48.

    Another thing to note...I don't know how different I am from other fangirls here...but I'm a fan of AKB48 not cause of their girly aspects, but rather cause of how their hard work, determination, dedication, will and ambition really moved and inspired me (especially from my top 3) . Of course, they're tonnes of fun to watch too...I really enjoy them because they aren't afraid to be dorks....they are always who they are...they work hard, they play hard...

    And in a way, I aspire to be like them to be able to work hard and push myself to the limits but at the same time, enjoy what I do and be completely contented with the results in the end...Basically, AKB48 has just become a group I grown to admire and love.
