Question about BLT/Theater Photos

Hey there, I'm a noob when it comes to collecting member photos, so I was wondering: is there some kind of database that keeps track of all the photos that come out? I'm a little lost as to where to start, as I don't even know some basic information.

I just made a massive purchase on Yahoo Japan Auctions for an almost 2-year collection of theater photos for my oshimen, so now I am really motivated to complete my collection. I've got a few questions:

1) When did theater photos first come out?
2) Were theater photos always released as sets of 4?
3) What are some other photo collections (Haregi, Visual Book, 1/48 photos, Fukubukuro, DVD Magazine photos, ShukanAKB photos, photos with single releases like Beginner/Chance, concert photos) that I should know about?

If I get enough information, I will update this post with all the data to help people complete their collections. If you have something, please say 1) where/what/when the photos came from, and 2) how many versions of each member came out.

For example: Three photos of each member came out with the AKB1/48 PSP game in December 2010, or something like that. Thanks!

Started in July 2009 - Still ongoing
Has a bottom bar that says "AKB Theater, the year, the month, and the member's name". The bar's color changes every month.

July 09 and August 09- 3 pictures for each member
September 09 onwards - 4 pictures for each member

July 09 until December 09(?) overlapped with gacha photos, using the same pictures but adding the bottom bar.

BLT Photos

B.L.T. x AKB48 Monthly Photos

Started in January 2007 and ended in May 2009(?). These photos came from a magazine series called B.L.T. x AKB48. From January 2007 until August 2007, there were 3 different versions of the magazines with 1 photo each. From September 2007, a fourth web-only version was added until the series ended in May 2009.

March 2007 until August 2007 - 2 photos of each member

I'm going to try adding dates for all the magazines and the Japanese names also. Also, keep in mind when looking for your member that they only appear in photo shoots that happened while they were members. For example, AKB48 x B.L.T. monthly shots started in January 2007 but Watanabe Mayu only started appearing in May 2007.

 

1. Theater photo used to call "Gacha". Gacha came out at the beginning of 2008 or the end of 2007.(a little unsure about this one)
and Theater photo, which the ones with obi and month on the bottom, started at Nov of 2009. Also, there are few months that they released both Gacha and Theater photo at the same time with the exactly same pic.
2. No. used to be 2 or 3.
3. you missed Calender XD Just to let you know that Haregi was only one series of the whole big BLT series. "photos with single releases like Beginner/Chance", do you mean "Shop photo" that we can get it at some limited shops with purchase of cd OR you mean the ones that comes with Theater version?

DVD Magazine photos is up to Vol 6 now with 3 photos each time and Fukubukuro only comes up 3 photos each member at new years since 2009.

Thanks, that's a big help. How are the Fukubukuro photos usually released?
And yes, I'm referring to the Theater "Gekijouban" pictures. Are you talking about the Tsutaya/HMV/Tower Records bonus pics? I'll find a way to work that in, though I need to research more. [sweat] How do people usually get the Theater Single photos?

If anyone has anything I missed (which I know is alot) please post the info!

 

Fukubukuro photos usually release with the Fukubukuro set on new year, you can find them on their official goods site that located on AKB's official site.

if you are talking about Gekijouban pictures, it comes with each purchase of Theater version since Oogoe Diamond.
store bonus pics examples usually find on Yahoo Japan Auctions, other than that on blogs of Japanese fans XD

Vancouver Olympics Ouen Book has 3 ver. (9 photos) of each member
W杯= W cup and it also comes in 3 ver. (9 photos) of each member
Also there are Idol wars, dai ichiki naikaku and dai niki naikaku series.

Just dropping in to say that this is a really cool idea (even if it's a super daunting project) and I wish you good luck! I've been trying to find some kind of database, as well, but apart from yj lots, it's pretty hard to get a lot of information on photos. I'll keep checking on this thread. :3

 

Not sure if this would help, but I keep a list of all Mayuyu BLTs/photos with bars under them detailing what event they're for. Basically, any official photo besides gachas because I don't collect those. I would imagine whatever came out for Mayuyu would apply to most other members as well (so if there were 7 normal 2010 Calendar photos and 2 special ones only obtainable at the theater, this would apply to all girls too. You get the idea), particularly senbatsu members. I'm going to copy and paste my list here if you want to take a look and see if you missed anything. They are in chronological order through my research of when each photo was released, if that helps. Each of the photos are labeled by name, except for ? in the case where I can't read the kanji. If someone could tell me what it says if they have a similar photo, it'd be nice. The only thing is, I haven't updated it in months so it's a little lacking in the recent months, but I will remedy that soon enough. Hope this helps!

I'm still on if i should start collecting photos, but i was wondering how can you tell if one is a bootleg? Do all the official photos have the bar thingy on the bottom? THANKS!

 

Oh I see.. Well i'm just hoping to pick up pictures of Yuki once in a while, when it's cheap. But the photos on Ebay are all fake right? especially the ones that cost around 3 bucks?

 

Thanks! Oh sorry another quick question, i bought a "costume card" last month and it's suppose to be a piece of the cloth the member wore to a photoshoot? Did AKB48 ever make something like that? Cause now that i think about it, it's starting to sound ridiculous.

 

How are the photos fake? Are they like, printed from comp or something? But doing that would mean you print out the AKS logo-bar thing as well...so I don't get how a photo can be 'fake'.

 

Sorry! I didn't phrase it correctly. When i said "fake" I meant "not official" or "fan printed". The random pictures people print out from their own printer just to sell it and make money.

 

The $3 photo's on eBay you mentioned are indeed bootleg. They are smaller and even have lesser print quality than the official ones. Some of the photo's on eBay are real, most of which you can identify by the bar.

About the costume cards, they are included in the card collection boxes. You'll most likely find: Ono Erena, Maeda Atsuko, Oshima Yuko, Oshima Mai, Miyazaki Miho, Itano Tomomi and Kasai Tomomi. These members all released a card collections in the past.

There are also some movie and drama related costumes ones as mentioned earlier, but these are much harder to find.

edit: seriously, try not to get involved. I'm only buying a single pic or card every now and then and I feel I'm getting sucked into it. It really is addicting. If you plan on starting to collect them, make some really tight rules for yourself concerning which members to buy and a spending limit.

as chainangled said in the first post, isn't there some japanese site that keeps track of the photos? i also wonder, when are the theater photos usually released? is there a fixed date every month or do they announce it somewhere? I also wonder how it works, are there limits how many you can buy (like it was for the 2011 seibu dome concerts where you could only buy 5 sets each)? thanks

 

I'm late in answering this question but I have recently come across a couple of interesting blog posts about it.

I myself collect both trading cards and theater photos of AKB48, namely Katayama Haruka's sets. That blog has some decent information on telling the difference between real and fake as well as new and older sets. However, he does not show the back of the photos, the higher quality ones produced as of about 2011 have the logo Century Digital running diagonal on the back, those as of about 2012 to now have as well the team name, month, and year as well as that logo on the back. The color bands pertain to the month the cards came out, and the best way to check for fakes is seeing the back of the photo and the quality of it, that said just test your luck in buying them. I know a few good sellers on ebay, dora_ts17 and everything48 sell real photos(at least I believe they are, I have not had a reason to doubt everything48's integrity yet). Also check the lobby section here too, we have our own trading and buying and selling going on here at stage48. As to whether or not it is worthwhile to engage in buying the theater photos that is up to you. Some view it as I don't know somehow weird and disgusting? Some are dedicated to it. I always collected baseball cards when I was little and have my grandfather's collection now in mine, and as a photographer and collector in general of anything that strikes my fancy, I love collecting these photos.
