Well I think we can call those sales figures respectable if a little disappointing, seems as Mayuyu has not sold as well as her last single on the first day either, seems as though things might well be getting too much for some.....

It's not 7th day sale, normally new release week will have 6 days sales (Tuesday(flying get day) - Sunday) except some occasions they release one day earlier. (such as Saisho no mail) The difference you see is weekly adjustment, the figure from some shops that didn't send their sales to Oricon daily.

This is actually really disappointing. The first week sales of their previous single is 133,662 which means more than one third (36%) down in sales.

While we are also seeing drop in sales for Mayuyu, the first day sales so far has been 38109 versus 50145 for the previous single, which means 24% drop in sales.

Japan's economy has been suffering and the outlook not so good either. I think lower sales for all AKB releases should be expected, unless it is something special.

Maybe they should think about lowering prices a little to help boost those numbers, though net profit may be a little lower, keeping up market share and recognition is important. Otherwise competitors start to encroach.

Well, afaik, akb-related releases are pretty much cheaper than the usual standard price of other Japanese artist releases. At least when you compare the value (more songs in tracklist, handshake tickets, photos).

I think it's about equal though. I know it does come with a lot of extras but if you're a collector it's gonna cost the same for a copy of AKB's single compared to pretty much any other artist, at least that I know of. (I buy from a lot of Japanese artists and research even more so I know the prices are definitely in that range.) But the one thing that makes AKB expensive is that you can't buy TE versions like a normal CD (as in not in stores and such) and those are the cheaper ones. Many groups release a cheaper CD-only version available in regular stores but AKB doesn't (anymore). So that would mean if you don't go out of your way to get the TE then the cheapest store-bought copies will cost more than the cheapest from artists who do store-releases of CD-only versions.

...Or maybe my argument is flawed, I dunno. XD XD XD

I definitely think money is at least partly a factor, even if only due to some Yukirin fans who are saving for her solo stuff... Or just fans of any of the girls who bought too much for their budget for the election. (Although I say they didn't buy enough. XD) Regardless. I think it's worth saying there's just a lot of reasons... Yeah.

Call me evil but I really want to see the Yen depreciate to a level that buying a CD online and buying it locally doesn't seem to be like heaven and hell apart in terms of pricing.

Shipping cost eats up a lot, if AKB48 can garner an unholy level of international market it might as well cater more items for foreign fans. Just like Toyota, they get lots of income due to a weakened Yen because labor and manufacturing cost is being stump out by the dollar.

Economically its a win situation for foreign fans if the Yen depreciate.

Ahaha I wish the USD could become worth more compared to the JPY... Shipping on one CD is more than 15 USD. 2-3 is nearly $20. Don't get me started on bulk buying... >.<

I'd be buying so much MORE if the yen wasn't so damn STRONG compared to my country's currency. And it's true that the AKB family as a whole is well known overseas -- I mean how else would they be able to have overseas lives? And take a look at G+, I mean, it has those translated pages for a reason -- they know those pages will have an audience which is why they are there.

Ahh this is going off topic a bit though, sorry. lol

Is there a thread to discuss the yen and its impact on sales? XD

A question, why FK didn't promote this single in Kyou-kyoku? or in Music Station? Is there any requirement to perform in MSta?
