I know you just want to clean up the dead links, but in the future could you please edit my posts and add strike-through text tag in the links instead of deleting my old posts / making them invisible. Not complaining btw, just asking. Thank you very much. :)

Ep 1-4 has been subbed by ngg I believe, and some random scattered ones from Sub48.

I've been translating a couple, along with someone else, but lack of staff has been delaying the release.

I really enjoyed the JKT episodes they've been doing. Hopefully we'll get specials featuring one of the Chinese groups in the future.

This weeks episode was awesome. I'm a fan of both cute girls and food, and this weeks episode fulfilled both of my needs.

I was quite happy with this weeks guests because recently it's been either SKE or JKT, and for me it just wasn't worth watching because I'm not exactly a fan of either. Though I say I'm not a fan of JKT, last weeks Harugon & Akicha JKT episode was surprisingly good, and hey, Jakarta looks like a pretty neat place to go for a holiday (If the locals really are how the show portrayed them, I think it'll be a blast for anyone).

Anyway, I look forward to next weeks episode. Hopefully they'll continue with more AKB members, (I mean, it is called Shukan AKB after all).

Good God. This has to be one of the wackiest things Shukan AKB has ever done. I don't think I have ever laughed this much while watching the show. I get the feeling they will continue this "Ricchan no hitori de dekirumon" series later. I would find it hilarious if this boosted Ricchan's popularity - although I have to admit it's a good idea. On one hand, it's good exposure for Ricchan and she made the most of it, but on the other hand I foresee this sort of elementary school student image wearing out its welcome sooner or later - especially given Ricchan's age.

I thought someone had spiked my tea when I watched that first song...I hope it's a one off and Ricchan sheds her elementary school student image as fast as possible. I mean I enjoyed parts of the episode but it didn't make me like Ricchan more than I did before the show.

Well, that was the most disturbing thing I've seen since entering this fandom. The whole episode seemed designed to either breed paedophilia, or for paedophiles to jerk off to.

She's in an elementary school uniform, complete with hat and schoolbag, everything is in bright colours and they play this jingle that's more idiotic than teletubbies. They made sure everyone on the program is twice the height of her, and there's a pedobear looking excited throughout the whole show. The activities she does are exactly like a kids TV show too. And the strange noises that man made whilst she was cutting the heads of those sausages etc was very disturbing.

People seem to be misunderstanding the setting of this episode, which is an original and ironic play on the girl's looks and character. Ricchan is playing along really well.
It's more than obvious that this is a parody. If it looks like a program for children, then it's because that's exactly what it's supposed to look like. It's a carbon copy of childrens' programming as seen on NHK's education channel. They're even addressing the viewership as "chibikko-tachi", which you could losely translate as "kiddies". Shimada Shuuhei, the guy on the side, is a famous comedian. He's perfect at parodying the role of "oniisan" (a staple host in programming for children).

The first segment, "radio taisou", is something that is an essential part of Japanese everyday life. For decades, the song has been playing every morning on the radio and people at home, outside, in companies and shops are doing their morning exercise with it.

The next segment is one that you see a lot on Japanese TV. There's a famous program in which they film small kids (usually between about 4-6) as they go on their first adventure alone into town to buy something that their parents told them to get.

He is watching her as she cuts the sausages and onion and is worried about her almost cutting her fingers. There is nothing, uh... "creepy" about it but it's natural sounds that you make when you're a Japanese person. I make the same sounds when I'm about to hurt myself or see someone almost running into a car. It's the relative equivalent to the English "woah woah". People with different cultural background make different noises, also called interjections.

The "idiotic jingle" just so happens to be the trademark jingle of Japanese animation company Ghibli Studios (used in all of their home video releases of catalogue titles) and the opening song to their generally most-well known work, the classic "Tonari no Totoro".

    Note:
    • The hat Ricchan is wearing is one of an elementary school student. All kids without exception wear these hats when outside.
    • The concept of "pedobear" does not exist in Japan. There are animal characters on all kind of kids' shows. At least in my world, people costumed as figures aren't usually a representative of abnormal sexual orientations.

Let's see what KnowYourMeme has to say about this.

I think most of us understand it was a parody, they do them all over the world, but maybe that kind of humour isn't my cup of team. I mean they do parodies all the time here but I don't even enjoy half of them because most of them are cheap and silly. This one felt really cheap and silly to me. No offense though I'm sure there are a lot of people who will enjoy this show.

HRP: you hit the nail on the head about exactly why I thought this show was weird.

Apart from the whole paedobear thing, I've only ever heard come across the term in relation to Japanese culture, I don't think its really a thing in England (in fact, googling it seems to suggest that it originated from Japanese message boards - probably originating from exactly the kind of characters you described from children's TV shows.

Btw, I love Totoro, but it is a film designed for kids, like Teletubbies. 4 year old kids love it but there is something for the parents to appreciate too, the same which can't be said for Teletubbies.

These are great live renditions of the Totoro theme :)
