-Seira feels like she made her farewells at her graduation ceremony last month, so appearing on ANN doesn’t feel like a job, it feels like coming to play. Seira hasn’t been working, she’s been living the slow life: cooking, reading, meeting friends, and waking up when she wants. She recently got a pet dog. Kubo says Seira appears happier than on her previous ANN visit (in April 2023).
-When shooting her photobook, Seira had to wake up at 4 or 5 a.m. to catch an 8 a.m. flight to Singapore. When she got on the airplane, before it took off, she suddenly collapsed in the aisle and everything went white (apparently she fainted). She was afraid this would stop her from going to Singapore, but she recovered at a hotel and caught a flight the next night with a manager, to catch up with the staff who had gone ahead to Singapore, and she was okay after that.
-This week’s listener mail topic is “baseball harassment,” stories of people with no interest in baseball getting “harassed” by baseball talk. Kubo is of course guilty of “baseball harassment.” Seira’s family are Hanshin Tigers fans and “harassed” Seira during her time in Nogi about when she’d be selected to throw a ceremonial first pitch at a baseball game.
-Seira plays a Nogizaka46 unit song she took part in, Moshimo Kokoro ga Toumei Nara.
-Last September, Kubo cried her eyes out after she fumbled a “kitsune dance” performance on a Fuji TV music show. To relieve her sadness, she and Seira took a day trip together to Karuizawa. Seira planned their entire itinerary, including hot springs and a high-class restaurant with candles and cheese.
-Kubo cried at “Hitonatsu no Nagasa yori” during Seira’s graduation ceremony, because the song holds special memories for her. The song’s lyrics are set near Odaiba, and Kubo once took an hours-long walk with Seira after work in Odaiba where they discussed many things. Recently during winter, Kubo also visited Seira’s place when Seira was feeling down. Seira started playing “Hitonatsu” on her guitar late at night and asked Kubo to sing along. Kubo still has a video of Seira playing the guitar.
-Seira plays Nogizaka46’s Hitonatsu no Nagasa yori.
-When Seira went on hiatus last year, Kubo was the first member to invite her out, telling her, “Anywhere’s fine, let’s go somewhere far away.” Seira says it was a period of time when going outside was scary for her, so they rode a taxi to Yokohama even though it was expensive. They ate pancakes and coffee jelly, went to a park, and took purikura photos. At a game center, they spent thousands of yen but couldn’t win a stuffed animal, so Seira appealed to a game center employee to help them win. Kubo shot a video of Seira walking happily at the Yokohama Red Brick Warehouse and told her she’ll wait until Seira’s wedding or some other important day to show her that video, to remind Seira that there was a time when she felt sad but was able to cheer up again. Returning to Tokyo, they ate Korean food and shared alcohol together. That night, Kubo talked about wanting to become friendlier with Kaki. So, afterwards, Seira told Kaki about it and arranged a takoyaki party for the three of them. Kubo credits Seira for her current closeness with Kaki.
-Seira plays a song she listened to a lot before becoming an idol, Nogizaka46’s Taiyou Knock.

-Nagi sets a 12:59 a.m. alarm to listen to Kubo’s ANN each week. She’s usually awake then because she’s bad at falling asleep.
-During last year’s Summer Tour in Miyagi, the concert catering provided ohagi. Nagi loved it so much that she told her mother about it. During this year's Summer Tour, Nagi ate very little in Hokkaido so that she could eat more ohagi later, but then it turned out Miyagi had no ohagi this year. Miyagi native Kubo says her own mom gave ohagi to ex-captain Manatsu last year, so if she had only known, Kubo’s mom would’ve brought ohagi for Nagi in Miyagi.
-Because of the new single, interviews often ask Nagi what she does alone. Her recent answer is the sauna. After talking to Mizuki during the Ohitorisama Tengoku MV shoot, Nagi started going to a Mizuki-recommended sauna once a week. Other things Nagi enjoys going to alone are: karaoke twice a month, stage plays, and movies.
-Nagi plays a cheerful song that encourages self-confidence and enjoying oneself, Nogizaka46’s Ohitorisama Tengoku.
-Nagi becomes very polite when staying at hotels. She likes that side of herself.
-Kubo offers three phrases to introduce listeners to Nagi.

• “Baby”: At first sight, Nagi seemed mature, calm, and graceful, but after spending more time together, Kubo sees her as having a cute baby face. Nagi put up a strong front when performing the new single on stage, but when the curtains closed, she started crying like a baby; Kubo wanted to protect her.
• “Kouhai temperament by nature”: During this single’s promotion, whenever Kubo asked if Nagi was tired, Nagi would reply, “No, I’m not tired at all. Compared to Kubo-san, I’m not tired at all,” or if Kubo said she messed up, Nagi would reply, “No, Kubo-san is always perfect,” promptly in a serious tone and looking straight in Kubo’s eyes. Nagi is always supportive, which fits Kubo’s traditional image of a kouhai. Nagi explains that she simply likes everything about Kubo.
• “A bit of an airhead?”: Kubo says Nagi is responsible, capable, and serious, but sometimes has a spacey side. For example, when given instructions, other members respond quickly with a light “hai!” but Nagi pauses, stares, and gives a ponderous “hai.” (Kubo demonstrates the Nagi “hai” at 57:30 and 57:45.) Nagi says it’s because she has to take a moment to mentally process things, and then she emphasizes “hai” to show she’s listening. Nagi says there are relatively many airhead characters among the 5ki, particularly Kawasaki Sakura.

-Coronavirus struck in Nagi’s final year of middle school. In high school, she didn’t know her teachers’ and friends’ unmasked faces, she ate lunches at her desk in silence, etc., but she did join the archery club. She had studied the Western pursuits of piano and ballet, but she wanted to do something more Japanese to match her name (Nagi 和 is normally pronounced wa, and can hold various meanings of “Japanese,” “harmony,” “peace,” or “sum”); kendo seemed a bit tough, so she did Japanese archery. Archery took up most of her summer vacation, they practiced outdoors every morning, wearing hakama and sweating in the sunlight.
-Nagi is still close with a childhood friend she’s known since she was 1 or 2 years old. The friend comes to watch her at Lives and so, regarding Nagi’s center, told her, “I’m thankful that you’re easier to see than last year.”

-Nogizaka46 is on summer vacation after the Summer Tour, so Yoda, Mayu, and Teresa are filling in while Kubo’s on holiday. Mayu takes on the role of MC because she has the most radio experience (and Yoda messes up at reading things throughout the episode).
-Bright-eyed Mayu says Yoda and Teresa look sleepy. Yoda woke up at 6 a.m. today and now regrets it. Teresa woke up at 5:30 a.m. but napped twice.
-What did the three do for summer vacation? Yoda flew to Los Angeles, where she met up with movie director Shinagawa Hiroshi whom she’s worked with, attended a Watanabe Naomi performance, and attended a Crystal Kay concert. Yoda wanted to study abroad in high school, but then she entered Nogi, and then coronavirus hit, so she couldn’t travel far until now. Homesick Teresa returned to her parents’ home. Her parents started raising a dog after she left. Teresa doesn’t cook because she’s scared of fire. Mayu mostly stayed home, but she didn’t like her freckles so she got them lasered off.
-During a discussion on “food training” in sports, Teresa remarks that everybody in Nogi doesn’t eat much.
-Teresa says she practices smiling and rubs her face before recordings. Mayu says members have to shoot hours of smiling footage, and their expressions can become stiff. Yoda says she thinks of a wombat’s face as her model for smiling. The three agree they’re able to smile more after joining Nogi, due to expectations, habit, and more funny things happening.
-Discussing Summer Tour memories, Teresa says on the 3rd day of the Meiji Jingu Live, a grasshopper landed on Yumiki, but Teresa didn’t say anything to avoid panic. Somebody stealthily snatched the grasshopper away, but Teresa doesn’t remember who. Mayu asks if Yoda would eat bugs. Yoda says she doesn’t want to eat bugs, but she can, because she’s hungry right now.
-During the Jingu Live, Mayu comforted Yuna over a performance mistake. But soon afterwards, Mayu missed her cue to switch stages during Jumping Joker Flash, danced in the wrong place, and got called to the correct stage by Yuna, which was embarrassing and the biggest Live error that Mayu’s ever made. Yoda also danced to the wrong place during Boku no Shoudou and had to walk back past Riria while on the big-screen camera. Yoda acted like nothing was wrong, whereas in the past she would’ve had a doomed expression on her face.
-Teresa says her college life isn’t sparkly at all. She’s only on campus before noon. The extent of her friendships with other students is saying “good morning” to them. Mayu encourages Teresa to invite her “good morning” acquaintances out for a meal.

-Tamami continues to be forgotten and overlooked in various ways. Recently, she was omitted from official Nogi twitter announcements three times in a row. She says it’s basically only 3ki who notice when she’s been forgotten and speak up for her, so she thanks them for noticing.
-What kind of song is Chance wa Byoudou? Ume says it’s a disco song and it’s lively. They were surprised when they first heard it; Kubo says it’s Mizuki’s graduation single, so everyone expected it might be a calm song. Ume says it’s not a solemn song, so singing it together felt fun, not lonely.
-Tamami is sleepy, especially listening to Kubo talk about baseball. Tamami usually sleeps by midnight.
-Ume felt lonely when she first moved to Tokyo to join Nogi; she cried when she listened to Yui’s Tokyo. Kubo still cries when she hears songs about Tokyo. However, Ume is totally okay with living alone, she loves that she can do things freely and doesn’t need to share the bath. Tamami was thrilled on her first day living alone, but by the second day, she felt lonely and ended up moving back in for a while with her family who live in Tokyo.
-Some kouhai were surprised by Mizuki’s graduation announcement, but the 3ki were not. Mizuki didn’t tell the 3ki ahead of time, but the 3ki could already feel it from her vibes when they hung out together.
-Tamami says she first met Mizuki at the 3ki audition because their audition numbers were next to each other. Tamami thought, “These eyes are definitely going to pass.” After the audition, they walked to the subway station together.
-Ume recalls early on often traveling alone with Mizuki, going to and from lessons. For their first two years in Nogi, Ume almost always roomed with Mizuki in hotels during concert tours; Kubo roomed with Hazuki, Tamami roomed with Reno.
-Speaking about the present day, Ume says when they stay in hotels, in addition to sharing impassioned conversations, Mizuki also has some coarse habits such as sleeping with her mouth open, or sleeping with her eyes open. Ume knows Mizuki aspires to be idol-like and present herself in certain ways, so Ume’s happy that Mizuki is willing to show her unrefined side to members. Mizuki has a neat image in public, but among 3ki she’s someone who gets teased a lot.
-Ume has a reputation for being tidy, organized, rules-based, etc., but it is revealed that Tamami is even more so, possibly #1 in Nogi. During the ‘slovenly lifestyle’ radio segment, Tamami rejects messy rooms, eating in bed, using her phone before sleeping, etc. Even on her days off, she wakes early and keeps a tight schedule; she likes to go to cafés in the morning and feels it’s a waste if she doesn’t. In comparison, Ume has ashamedly been staying up late and leading an undisciplined lifestyle recently. Meanwhile, Kubo randomly finds rubber bands stuck on her arms from eating bento.

 

They're just like us. Surprised. Sometimes I detect a tone of disappointment. What they really didn't want, but they have to go along with it. Let's put on a smile.

One thing I hope we get as her graduation approaches is more thoughts from her fellow 3ki gen mates.
