Can I give a suggestion? Songs like Korogaru Ishi ni Nare, Kurukurupa, Doku Ringo Tabesasete, etc, where everyone sings everything, how about marking them as color coded (pink star) or need no color codes (green star) instead of without color codes (black star)?

And songs like Sakura no Hanabiratachi, or Aozora no Soba ni Ite, who have more than one version (single ver. / solo ver. / stage ver., etc), but no difference at all lyrics, is it possible for the pages to be merged and listed as only one song in the index? The alternate color coding can be put below the first color coding (just like you put the team K version of Dear my teacher below the team A version).

The A3rd medley is in the old Dareka no tame ni studio album which was released back in 2007 (not the studio collection which was released in January 2013); which is a medley between the remixed version of Aitakatta, AKB48, Dear my teacher, Skirt, hirari & Sakura no hanabiratachi.

I clearly remember that the page existed (but the last time I went to that page is around 2011 - 2012; so yeah... It might have been deleted accidentally)

 

When a song has a green star, it means that no color coding is necessary because it's apparent who (soloist) sung the song in the first place. But because there are some 16 girls singing group songs like Korogaru ishi ni nare, the black star (color code needed) doesn't just denote that the song needs codes, but that it also needs a list of who sang the song. Since that list normally comes along with color codes, a lot of group songs that don't necessarily need codes unfortunately also lack a list of which girls participated in the recording of the song. That's why it makes more sense in this case to use the black star instead of green. (Btw, if anyone would like to submit lists of girls who sang group songs in recordings for songs that are missing a list, that might be very helpful).

As for merging the different types of songs, it's possible that someone may come looking for a specific version of the song (say, the NO NAME version of Temodemo no Namida for example). If they don't see that clearly listed in the lyrics list maybe they will think it's not there. Keeping different versions of the songs separate also keeps the page more clean and short.

I think stage songs are a bit different because they generally follow the same type of color-coding and it's more "common knowledge" (or easy to look up knowledge) in the fandom which songs belong to which stages. Whereas a lot of people probably never heard of, for example, Aisareru to iu koto for ICE or even knew there were two versions of the song - and if you look at the color coding for the two versions, it's quite different as well.

I didn't really mean that Aki-P was wrong in this case. Simply that Japanese don't really pay any attention to grammar and whatnot in English and they mostly use it in songs as wild cards or something FROM WHAT I'VE SEEN.

Aki-P might also be a genious in English, but I'm sure most of the people who listen to his songs don't really look at it as closely as it's being done here, and if they do and they read the word "gay", I don't think they'll try to look for some hidden message behind that.

Agree, but I pretty sure the gay he used was spelled in Japanese, making it more of a borrowed word than actually English word. But either way I agree with you that people are just making something out of nothing out of this.

BTW the way I don't think he's a genius in English, but I'm pretty sure he is much more adept in English then say 90% of people in Japanese entertainment industry.

 

If you compare the English (the actual words, not the pronunciation of the girls) in AKB's songs to most Jpop songs you'll find that most of the english surprisingly makes sense and is gramatically sound. You can especially hear this in the background parts of songs like Heartgata virus ("I have a fever") and BINGO ("stolen my heart" etc). I don't know if he consults with someone or if he just knows it that well himself though. Of course, there are times when the lyrics are pretty bad as well, though I can't think of any examples off the top of my head.

I am inclined to think that "gay" is just an appropriated English word that is sometimes used slightly differently in Japan. Though I did some rather poor research on it when I found it in the song's lyrics and did find it in use referring to sexual orientation, I recall from other instances that it can also be used for new-half people and such. I assume AkiP just had to use that shorter term to fit the lyrics, but the line it's found in means its inclusion is most likely indicative of gender identity, not sexual orientation. Although I suppose it is an easy word to misconstrue. Still, my point is that AkiP's English abilities might not even come into question here.

Anyway it's not something anyone should make a big deal out of - the world the way it is now with its overly political-correctness just likes to stir up controversy where there doesn't have to be any. Let's not do that here.

(by the way, "flying get" is a japanese-english term for "getting something before the official release date" and I'm pretty sure it was in use before AKB's song, so that also has nothing to do with AkiP's English skills).

If that's the case, then there really isn't anything to complain about his English ability. Like I said, the man lived in NY for most of the 90s and is even frequent to a high-end steak house that s\he is known to the staff there (got the from some old variety appearances on AKB's visit to NY.)

Like you said, vast majority of his work has pretty sound english both semantically and grammatically. I personally find that rare in Japan, or Asian music in general period...

Yes, it's an actual term. CDs usually start to be available in stores the day before their Wednesday release - which is of course why we get sales figures on Wednesday evenings already. People usually refer to that as "furage" and the day as "Flying Get Day" ("Furage-bi").

 

Well, he did explained it, but I always thought it was a term he just made up. So the term did exist even before. Well, that just make while lot sense as I always thought the title Flying Get was weird and a little inconsistent to his usually sound English. That really make hell lot of sense now and would actually make a nice case of how borrowed words can take life of it's own...
