i have question about her voice..

is it normal for a japanese girl to have low pitch voice like that.
or is it because of something else. you know, like cigs or alcohol..
i heard they can make your voice change after a while...

That's like asking if it's normal for a guy to have a high voice. XD

If you're comparing her voice to the other members, Mariko is one of the older members so it's natural that her voice is lower than most of the underage girls of the group. But if you think her voice is low in general, then listen Sayaka's voice from Team K or Yossie's voice from Morning Musume. They have low pitched voices, too. I bet there's plenty of girls in Japan that have low voices. It's just that most of them don't get picked to become idols.

I highly doubt that her low voice is from cigarettes and/or alcohol. Even though she's legal, she has to maintain a "pure" status and be a good role model for the younger members. Otherwise, she'd get the boot. XD

    EH???? no way...

I love low voices in girl singers... I think that is very sexy <3

Japanese girls have hight voices in general, but the rest of the world have normal voices like Mariko, Sayaka or Yossie, ... for example, here in Chile many girls have low voices, that not means they are addicted to something.

Maybe in other part of the world, they do have girls with low voice. like in Chile or here in europe. But in japan?
corect me if i'm wrong, i've never been to japan.
or maybe its like what foojason said. low voices girls don't get picked that often to become an idol.

Sayaka's mother is filipino. there's high posibility she get her voice from her mother. And i don't think yossie's voice is that low.

but i'm glad if mariko really doesn't get her voice from cigs and/or alcohol...^_^

I think that Maririn's voice is low is because her voice is this way ,
Besides no matter what kind of voice she has the important is tah she knowns singing well

I suppose that there will also be more Japanese girls with the voice low.

It is true that there aren't many idols who have the voice low but that is because many times their voice sre distorted so that it appears to be more high

^ you right... some girls (Idols) have low voices but they try to speak higher... maybe is a cultural thing, who knows.

    now that's what i call a theory.
come to think of it, some girls tend to make their voice more kawaii. even kojiharu. i have the impression she can talk normal. not like the way she talks in her private video.

maybe that's not the case for maririn..

I discovered that a lot of j-girls fake the high voice to look and sound cute,
Mariko-sama is just one of those girls that does just fine with her natural voice, lower than some others.

Tomomi Kasai is one with a natural Seiyuu anime voice actress type voice and does it well also.

cutural thing, i'd say yeah...to sound kawaii ;)

Yea, haruna's voice could sound annoyying sometimes. But I dont think that she's faking it. It took a lot of energy to change your normal voice, especially when youre involved in a long conversation.
But I think its general in the whole world that girls always trying to talk in such fashion. A lot of girls I know does that too.
What's abnormal is when guys talk like that, BEWARE....

Mariko's voice sounds mature, I like it. Mai's voice not too bad either

^ so, in AKB48, there are wide range of voices.
    from low to high pitch.
    from boy-ish to sweet.
    and so on.
    that's why WE LOVE AKB48. <3

I think that low voices (like Maririn's) are important to balance the higher pitched voices.

I'm a big Yuka fan, and she has a low pitched voice too, I don't really think that they fake their voices, it's just the way people speak XD Like me, I squeak all the time, and people get annoyed sometimes, but that's just what I talk like
